Announcing MozBar V4 - A New Era for Moz’s SEO Browser Extension

We are excited to announce that we are launching a new version of the MozBar SEO browser extension!

What is MozBar?

MozBar is a free browser extension that provides marketers with access to Moz Data, including pertinent metrics such as Domain Authority®, Page Authority, Brand Authority™, and more. Since its launch in 2008, it has evolved with the ever-changing search landscape and has over 1 million installs.

While some features require a Moz Pro subscription, a suite of tools is accessible for free to help marketing generalists and proficient SEOs alike quickly access page information at the click of a button.

What's new with MozBar V4?

This release is a landmark event because we migrated MozBar to V3 of the Moz API. As software developers & marketers, we wanted to show first-hand how bringing products to life with our new API architecture is easier than ever, building endpoints that will make accessing data a breeze.

One of the perks of building on our new framework is that Moz Pro subscribers now get access to Moz's exclusive Brand Authority metric. This game-changing stat will now sit alongside our often-referenced and industry-leading metrics, Domain Authority and Page Authority, on the MozBar.

From a personal standpoint, I have been using the MozBar in some shape or form throughout my career as an SEO, whether to gain competitive insights at a glance or to comb through a list of URLs for link building initiatives. After joining Moz earlier this year and learning the team wanted to rebuild MozBar to deliver even greater value to our community, we worked to improve upon past iterations, blend the overall UX with the fresh new look of Moz Pro, and introduce shiny new features to spark the curiosity of SEOs old and new.

With all that jazz and excitement out of the way, let's get into the nitty gritty to see what's available in this new version of MozBar.

Enhanced user experience: Tab it up or tap the bar

While the previous version of our extension packed a lot of data into the metrics bar, we decided to take a different approach with the new MozBar and provide a more fulfilling experience for various workflows.

Users can now access a variety of features via the pop-out version of the MozBar extension with a click of the icon, or they can stick to viewing high-level link metrics on the streamlined metrics bar.

Think of the new MozBar as a mini-Moz Pro that's only a click away as you surf the web. Our updated extension provides a menu similar to the upgraded navigation in Moz Pro, delivering a consistent UX that we aim to deliver across our entire product line. Evolution is critical in this industry, especially as the organic search landscape can change on a whim. Knowing Moz is an entry point into the sometimes convoluted world of SEO for many marketers, we've enhanced our extension with updated tooltips, easy-to-understand descriptions, and a simple interface.

Additionally, our enhanced MozBar provides quick access to metrics that have been part of SEO workflows for years: Domain Authority, Page Authority, Linking Domains, Inbound Links, and Spam Score. In a conscious effort to deliver actionable value to marketers on the go, we have leveraged our latest API infrastructure to display two additional metrics:

  1. Ranking Keywords for both pages and domains
  2. Brand Authority, Moz's exclusive metric that measure a brand's strength and influence

You can now have your cake and eat it, too, thanks to the flexibility of our new API.

Note: Community Users will have access to limited queries for Domain Authority and Page Authority. From the Starter Plan to custom plans, all Moz Pro subscribers will have 75,000 monthly queries for these metrics.

Updated all-in-one Page Analysis

As a career-long performance marketer, dealing with extension bloat has been a common issue that I have aspired to fix, should the opportunity fly across my desk.

Analyzing a page goes beyond finding the page title & header tags, and we have updated MozBar to unearth the elements that you don’t have to search for anymore. With a click of a button, you can analyze the schema markup embedded on a web page, verify hreflang tag installation, and get quick access to a site's robots.txt & sitemaps.

While previous iterations of MozBar merely indicated if markup was visible on a web page, we now provide the value you need for both technical audits and quick scans.

To save you from repeatedly wearing out your keyboard by tapping ctrl+c (or cmd+c for Apple enthusiasts), we have integrated "copy" buttons on the General Attributes, On-Page Elements, and Markup tabs.

Get quick insights using the updated Page Optimization

The Page Optimization section of MozBar is powered by our On-Page Grader tool, mirroring the functionality accessible to Moz Pro subscribers. Simply enter a keyword, and you get a high-level summary of which factors might contribute to a page's ability to rank and impair a page's ability to rank for the given search term.

You can click on the pie chart in the Page Score box to access the On-Page Grader in Moz Pro. This tool provides a deeper assessment of all factors on the page and how they relate to the given keyword.

Refined SERP Overlay to assess URLs on the go

Google has changed their SERP layout A LOT since we last launched a new extension. However, that isn't holding us back from providing digestible data in a format that allows you to compare multiple URLs effortlessly.

Despite the launch of AI overviews- a catalog of rich features that have converted SERPs to a collection of boxes reminiscent of a child’s scrapbook–link metrics are still accessible for all organic listings. Access Domain Authority, Page Authority, Linking Domains, and Inbound Links for all organic listings with any search on Google.

The handy export function lets you download a snapshot of the data for future use, so you don't have to scramble and remember which URLs you saw on your competitive analysis expedition.

How to get started with MozBar

If you're ready to use the new version of MozBar, go to the Chrome Web Store and download the latest extension. Existing MozBar users should have their extensions updated automatically. To access our premium features within MozBar, you will need a Moz Pro subscription, so if you haven't signed up already, get your free trial here.

If you're seeing blurred results and you have an existing Moz Pro subscription, you can log into your account to access premium features.

For those on Firefox, fret not! Our product roadmap includes carving out time to adapt our SEO Browser extension for Firefox Fanatics.

Log in to your account in the MozBar interface to access premium features.

We're so excited to see what our 1 million MozBar users can achieve with our shiny, new, updated toolbar! If you love the update, please leave us a review to let other users know how the improvements have helped you.
