Google Now Pulling Primary Link Text from Meta Descriptions

This YouMoz entry was submitted by one of our community members. The author’s views are entirely their own (excluding an unlikely case of hypnosis) and may not reflect the views of Moz.

It appears that Google is using content from the meta description to populate the primary link for certain queries even if there is a <title> tag in place.

Example:

Site: http://www.nottawasagaresort.com/

Title: Nottawasaga Resort

Meta Description: Nottawasaga Inn Convention Centre & Golf Resort

DMOZ Description: A 575 acre resort offering four seasons getaways all year long, for business and for pleasure.

Query 1: Nottawasaga Resort

Query 2: Nottawasaga Inn

Implications:

Meta Descriptions are more important than ever as having bolded keyword-heavy anchor text in the Google search results increases CTRs.

Google is totally lying on this page

Notes:

This isn't a site I'm affiliated with and have no way of knowing what would happen if the title tag were changed or if a NOODP tag were added.

This isn't a site I'm affiliated with, so please keep the "Did you know your site has hidden text" or "You are teh suck at SEO" comments to yourself.
