A deal can be many different things, depending on your business -- really, I'm just using it as a placeholder. Whether it be a new client, a big partnership, a fresh distribution, a juicy link, even an acquisition, they're all in the same ballpark. From experiencing it first hand in my work to being on the receiving end of some really bad attempts, here's 10 reasons why you'll blow that big deal.

Over the last few months our engineering team has been working feverishly on a new index. Our crawlers were extremely successful, but, we ran into a few bumps in the road along the way. Those proverbial bumps shifted our expected launch date from the beginning of April... to today. It's not all bad, though.
The new index went live today, and it's big. 159 billion URLs big.

Public relations is just one of those things. It's something that every company knows they should do, but only see two ways of making it happen -- hire an expensive PR firm or cross their fingers and hope for the best. The latter is, well, not really much of a PR strategy. There is a third option, however.
Bootstrapping.
I've written in the past about how to bootstrap your PR efforts, but never really dug into the nitty gritty. It's a time intensive process, but if you're up for the challenge, getting coverage in some of the top outlets in the world is possible, and even likely.

It's all about the first impression. Whether you're launching a startup, product or feature, the launch can make or break it. It's the shining moment when all eyes are on you.
Better make the most of it.
There's stories of how some companies got it right, but one that stands out in particular: Spotify. Looking at the success of Spotify, to the tune of over 2.5 million paying subscribers, there's one thing that sticks out in my mind… the launch.
Andrew is the Director of Business Development at Moz, a marketing analytics platform with over 25,000 customers. There, he oversees the Business Development team, which is responsible for data licensing, product distribution, strategic partnerships, and various other growth-related initiatives. In previous lives, Andrew held similar roles at Seesmic (acquired by Hootsuite) and Tatango. Andrew’s work has been routinely recognized across an array of technology blogs including TechCrunch, The Wall Street Journal, FastCompany, and Forbes. During the occasional free weekend or evening, Andrew can often be found hacking on Stride, a passion project of his, or writing on his personal blog.
