Ive been out of SEO for the last few years and I’m just getting back into it wondering whether meta data and black-lining are still relevant SEO. If not what on page factors should I be looking at.

JugglingCats.com - How did they do it?

https://www.jugglingcats.com/ has a domain authority of 30. That seems crazy to me, especially for a site that looks like it hasn't been updated in years, has maybe 300 words, and uses Comic Sans for goodness sake! Yes, I see that their domain has been around since 2002, and they have about 130+ inbound domains. But is that enough? What else do you think has contributed to their success? Or is it success? Should they, for their age, be much higher? I'm very curious as to your take on it.

Homepage outranking subpage for main keyword, but subpage is more optimized for the keyword.

Recently did a site redesign, 95% of the site and keywords are matching up in terms of keyword to what page is ranking for that keyword. All and all was expected and pleased with the redesign, except... A subpage ( PA 1 ) really is a landing page for the main keyword in question is only one jump from the hompage, is it's own category and has the exact match anchor text to its page from the homepage, has a total of 14 total keyword usages. The homepage has a PA of 28, mentioned the keyword once in the body text in form of anchor link, yet still steals the thunder from the main keyword. There aren't a ton of backlinks, but ones we do have 95% of them goto the homepage. Subpage in question has a on page grade of A for the keyword, while the homepage has an on page grade of C. No backlinks at all for this page yet. Subpage even uses the keyword as it's url name, so kinda at a loss to what else I can do, it's a new page, so alll I keep thinking is the issue is the page authority, it's linked to from other pages on the site. Any suggestions?

Does More Guest Posts Effect Website Rankings in a Negative Way?

Hello Everyone, On an average I am getting around 20 backlinks for 15 days. All these backlinks are done through proper outreach and guest posts in relevant websites. We have a team of four people doing only outreach and getting backlinks through proper guest posts. But I am worried on whether it will effect my website ranking in a negative way? Kindly get me clarified with my doubt. Should I continue this or should I reduce my numbers?

Shortened URLs Passing Link Equity?

Hi everyone, I was going through a competitor's backlinks, and I noticed they had a number of links from ow.ly and bit.ly that according to Open Site Explorer were passing link equity with PA in the 40 and DA in the 90s. How does that happen? And, how can I duplicate that? I thought those services just shortened your URLs for Twitter feeds mostly, and Twitter no-followed everything. New to SEO, looking for advice.

Good day. I am fairy new to SEO and a lot of things about how google ranking works is very confusing to me. For example i do not understand why websites that are not optimized score 1st positions. Currently i am working on optimizing http://logiunvarti.lv/ for google.lv. I would like to ask if i am going in the right direction as far as on-page optimization and any kind of suggestion would be very welcome. Another roadblock i have reached is link building. Latvia is not a big country and most of the websites on similar topic as my are either competitors and are have low domain authority, dead for years, or simply ignore emails. Would social media be a decent alternative? I feel like i am missing a crucial point on SEO in for my country. I would be extremely grateful for any advice or if possible to contact me on skype for a better explanation on my problem.

i am searching for page ranks but all results show pr 0 when i search, doesnt matter if the site is a pr ma or a pr10, i was using scrapebox to find the backlinks but now nothing is showing as far as pr goes, i have also used various websites to check the page ranks and still get the same results. maybe its my ip but i doubt it cus i am using private proxies. any idea guys? cRbWC65

Backlinks on sites that aren't relevant, how does google determine relevancy?

I have a competitor who I've talked about on here before about how they passed us in ranking for our main keywords and that they were a new site ( less than 6 months old ). Well after further digging a few things were found out: Our site seems to have a penguin penalty causing our keywords ( a group of synonyms as well ) from ranking better than rank 30. As well our competitor has been using this weird backlink tactic of using SEO sites ( a friend? ), a parent site to prop it up ( footer links and others ) as well has links inside articles that aren't relevant as in having a commercial niche page inside a lawyer site page talking about phone dialing. Then the low DA directory sites. I'm curious as to if penguin algo will catch them once it comes out, if not penguin a manual review would certainly catch their tactics, but this site is doing everything else other than proper SEO. What do you think?

Unlinked mentions that seem to be FROM by site

Hi Everyone I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question. I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site! I've attached a screen grab. Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum? Why did I lose my rankings for a keyword "CRM" even after getting quality backlinks?

Initially my website is ranking on third page of Google.com for the keyword "CRM". So to improve rankings I got good number of quality backlinks by guest posting in various websites. But now my website is ranking on 6th page, which is a big concern for me. But for Google.in there was neither any improvement nor any fall in the ranking. I have following doubts in my mind 1. Does the sudden increase in backlinks (quality backlinks in the from of guest posts) effect rankings in a negative way? 2. Why did it effect on Google.com and not on Google.in? 3. Linkbuilding: Relevancy and Internal Linking

Hello, For linkbuilding, how important is relevancy and how is it calculated by Google? For specific context, we are interested in putting a scholarship campaign on our reference page (www.spanishdict.com/traductor), and were wondering how that will impact relevancy. Additionally, we were wondering the value of internal linking from one page to another. We want to get more links to our hubpage – Page A (www.spanishdict.com/traductor) but much of this interesting, relevant content lives on our blog page – Page B (ex: www.spanishdict.com/blog/traductor/el-gh-en-ingles/). What is the best way to handle this? Would it suffice to internal link from the blog page (Page B) to the page we actually want to get links to (Page A)? Or should we try to house this content on Page A? Thanks for your help!

Link analysis: no-follow from slideshare

I noticed when doing link analysis that for some competitors the backlink from slideshare is recorded with a 'no-follow' beside the link. Other sites analyzed don't show a backlink from slideshare despite having this link in their slideshare pages. Is the no-follow resulting in the backlink getting recorded to improve domain authority but not SEO authority?

Making a custom web directory

I am wondering if it is beneficial to launch a social bookmarking website based on Semantic Scuttle [http://semanticscuttle.sourceforge.net/demo] in order to gain inbound links. For the sake of example, say my industry is ebooks. I would of course add links to all of my products to the site. In addition, I would want to add links to competitors products to the site to make the site actually useful and not look like spam. On the face of it, is this a good idea? Secondly, I of course wouldn't want to be helping out competitors, so would any of these actions be advisable? add nofollow links to all links except those pointing to my site. ads or featured listings pointing to my links. I make it so only voted on links are dofollow. Thus, competitors could actually get links from my site. Naturally, I would vote on all my submissions. The idea of the site would actually be to provide a meaningful service. Once it's done I would want to get people linking to it. Any advice? Thanks! Edit: I added scenario #3 which I think is probably the best option, if this is even a good idea. I would also make some static content to really make this a good resource!

What are he benefits of getting 200+ links from DA 40+ non-relevant websites?

I have a client who has an opportunity to sponsor a prestigious national organisation. In return, they will get 200+ links from the websites of the organisation's members. Most of which are DA 40+.None of the linking sites have any relevance to my client's industry.1) How likely do you think it is that Google will view these as paid links?2) Do you feel that there is potential harm in gaining this many non-relevant links in a short time-frame?3) The client wants me to quantify the ranking benefits of gaining these links and calculate a potential ROI. I work for a web design & development agency. We are looking to rank for 'web design' and 'web development'. Typically we have a credit in the footer of every site we build (below). We have a lot of backlinks (>60,000) this way. web design and development by We link 'web design and development' and '<our name="">' separately.

Backlinks from subdomain, can it hurt ranking?

I just started doing an SEO audit and noticed I have 40,000 some odd back links from an OLD version of our site that has been moved to a subdomain. The back links are for articles that already exist on our main site. I don't think Google is picking it up as duplicate content because that site isn't being crawled anymore. Could this hurt us SEO wise? I plan on removing the site, but how long after it's been removed should those back links disappear?

GWT Lists URLs with links to my site, but those URLs don't have links to my site

There are a number of URLs that show up for my website in Webmaster Tools as having links to my site when in fact they don't. I know this to be a fact because I actually wrote some of the sites that Google is saying are linking to my site and I know there isn't any links on the specific pages to that site. For example, the site in question is: https://www.liftproducts.com/ As an example, Google is saying that about 100 URLs from https://www.lift-tables.net/ are linking to it when, I'm fairly confident that there is only 1 link to it found here: https://www.lift-tables.net/info.php?countrytabs=3 Yet Google says links exist on this (and many more) page: https://www.lift-tables.net/liftproducts/max-lift/lpt4w-030-48.php I thought at first it might have been due to linking to a image file directly instead of locally hosting it, but after checking the source, that's not the case. I am also seeing this type of non-linking being reported on sites I have no clue what they are. For example, some Spanish site about tandem bicycles is being listed as linking to liftproducts.com: http://206-225-85-34.dedicated.abac.net/tandem/inc Yet I can find no evidence of an actual link existing. Am I missing something here? Any insight of why this is happening and how I can clean up my link signature would be appreciated.

Spam links in spam analyses tool: Referral page doesn't exist anymore

Hi, I have the following problem: The spam analyses tool in MOZ gives me a few links with a spam score of 10 and 9. I want to remove those links and try to contact the webmaster before disavowing the links. I read about being careful with too much disavowing. Unfortunately removing the links isn't possible because three different reasons: The page/subdomain of one referring website that should have a link to my website doesn't exist anmymore (compliance.ikkiesvoorverandering.nl/). The website http://ikkiesvoorverandering.nl does exist, but is almost empty and there is no possibility to contact the webmaster. What do you guys recommend to do in this situation? Any experience with this problem? On another website (with again no contact option) there is a link who directs to a former website, which has a redirect to my current website. I have no Google search console on that old website anymore. Does that make it impossible to disavow the link? What are other option to remove this link? The website that comes up in the spam analyses tool is pretty much empty (http://veensma.jouwbegin.nl/). How can I delete a link from an empty website? Any thoughts? I hope someone can help me with this, Would be glad to here from you 🙂 Lars

Menus and Internal Link Volume Guidelines

Hi guys. I am currently working on a site with a large menu structure. In the navigation there are lots of submenus amounting to over 100 links in total. When i have been auditing the site i am getting the notification to keep internal links below 100 - but the everything on there i do need - have trimmed down as much as possible but its all very necessary and logical for the end user. Is this 100 internal link guideline something to be concerned about in this situation? If so is there any way to accommodate a larger menu structure whilst still appeasing these guidelines. Is this a bad thing to do, linking all these articles (12) in a row? Also, is it a bad thing to use "Customer Success" as the anchor text for all the articles linking to this new article? How much 'ranking power' would a link from a privacy policy page of a Big Brand have if the site content is totally unrelated?

Let's say that Site A is a large brand with high authority ( Moz shows it at 90 DA). Site A is about “Blue Shoes”. Site B is about “fishing”. If Site A links from their privacy policy page to Site B … would that inbound link carry enough weight in a way that could impact rankings for Site B given that the content is totally unrelated and it's a link from a privacy policy? Uk link building

Hello mozzers, I have a UK website that I have slowly been building high quality links to from highly trusted websites, traffic is slowly but steadily rising. So far all the links i've built are on UK websites. I've discovered there are many opportunities to get links from loosely related US websites. Would links from highly trusted US domains help my UK rankings? Would they help, but not as much as UK links? I'd be very grateful to hear anyones thoughts on this. Thank you so much!

Second anchor text on page. Does it count?

Back in 2008 there was "proof" that the anchor text of a second link on a page would not be counted for the anchor text.

Citation, Google Plus and SEO questions

Hi, I have a website www.gemslearninginstitute.com. We offer different after school programs for kids located in Canada. I have a very basic knowledge of SEO. I have a few questions. Just wondering if someone can please help me. We offer UCMAS Mental Math Program, Tutoring and Chess School/Coaching and runs a Chess Club. I would like to boost my google ranking and get more local traffic. 1- My citation is not consistent. Which program should I use to correct the citation and delete duplicate or inconsistent listing automatically. 2 - Should I do the citation with my company name only “GEMS Learning Institute” or Should I do like this “GEMS learning Institute – UCMAS-Tutoring-Chess”. Which one is better? 3- Right now I have two different google plus business pages. One with the name of “GEMS Learning Institute” and the second one is UCMAS. Should I have only one page as GEMS and delete the UCMAS. 4- I am not sure how to check if my site is penalized by google. 5- How can I measure things which are working on not? Should harmful links to your own website be removed?

Upon running a link report on a website, there are often multiple links flagged as bad or suspect that come from a blog that is integrated into the website, which means there are links (set up as article tags) in the site that go to other pages in the same site. They have likely been flagged due to their high frequency. A similar problem is occurring where blogs from a connected site (from an offshoot site of a company that is part of the original) are also tagging their blog posts to link into the original website. Should these links be disavowed? Will these links have an effect on the website if they are disavowed or not?

Tools for Documenting and Monitoring Link Structure

The sites I work with all have increasingly published more and more content. In order to maximize the potential and "link juice" of every post and the site, we are linking the post to other relevant internal posts. What I want to ask though is if the community here has any tips or recommendations as a way to monitor and track this. The reason being that I don't want to just go in guns blazing and link all over the place. I want to keep and maintain link structure, even on a content level. For now, I've been using pencil and paper and assigning numbers to keep structure. However, with so many posts and so many links within each post, I'm starting to notice that maybe this is a little impractical. Are there any recommendations?

Using web dev agencies to generate backlinks

Going to start by saying I'm totally new here, so apologies in advance is this is a dumb question! I run a site that is focused on home buyer education. The site is brand new, so no almost no link profile, and I'm trying to grow my backlinks. On twitter I've had success with real estate agents sharing my articles to their followers, which is great. It helps them educate their customers and feeds the social media beast. I realized that realtors, mortgage brokers, and insurance agents (all relevant to my niche) don't usually run their own websites. Many of these sales people leverage agencies, and often the agencies offer blog posting as part of their service offerings. I'm tempted to do some outreach to these agencies and offer to write guest posts. I figure they get free, quality content and I beef up my link profile. Is this a bad idea? Are there any risks with this approach?

What happens if 20 links become 1?

Dear great Moz community, I have a question regarding links. Currently my website is listed on a site that requires that I pay money every year to get my products listed there.
However, I will not be paying this year. I will still be listed on the page (1 link towards my site) but my products will no longer be displayed. (around 20 products with links). Will this affect my rankings? or is one link from the page enough. Hence: all the links from that site were pointing towards the same place, my homepage. Page links, header links, footer links

2. Header links are less, Footer links are less, and in the future, we are planning to add more, will this affect SEO more than 100

Are stackoverflow links follow or nofollow?

I've tried to find the answer to this question myself, but I've found differing opinions. The conclusion I've come to is that Stackoverflow allows follow links when the user that posts the link has sufficient reputation or if the link receives user validation. Has anyone else here used Stackoverflow.com that knows the answer to this question? 🙂

Many of our best links are to our old domain. Problem?

Hi, around 7 years ago the organization I'm with switched their domain name. When doing link analysis some of our best links are to the old domain including a followed link from an article on the BBC news site. The old domain has been 301 redirecting to the new domain for years. Is it worth the time to contact the sites that are linking to the old domain? Or, will all or the majority of the link juice be given to the newer domain with the 301 redirect? Thanks!

What are the possible effects of a small blog migration on an existing link profile?

Hi all, We're in the process of a small migration of blog content, and I'm interested to know how the change will affect our link profile. We currently have a small blog on a separate domain from our main business website. This small blog (with around 248 pages and a 14 DA) was originally set up many years ago to support the main business site, however we've reviewed our content strategy to start incorporating the posts from this site to our main business domain. As this small blog was set up as a support to the main domain, it contains many links to our main domain which will essentially disappear once the content has been migrated. We're following all best practices in this migration, however there is one questions which is still unclear with this process. Will this small migration of content and loss of hundreds of links from one domain have a negative effect on our existing link profile of our main business site?

What happened to my ranking

Hi trying to rank for "liverpool wedding photographer" as my main keyword. my profile is mainly wedding blogs and photography blog comments, a few "featured weddings" from wedding blogs , directory links and I have also a few guest post blogs. Goy myself all excited in December by getting to 4th position and then followed that up by around 35 links in one week. So expecting my ranking to stabilise or even go up I watched my site slowly sink to a current position of 7th, over January, even as the new links kicked in. a weird thing happened in this period as the following sites where I had left one comment on a blog post ended up giving me links from nearly all the other posts they had written: http://www.richardbernabe.com/blog/2012/12/04/iceland-bound-again/ http://blog.leica-camera.com/2014/12/03/andrew-kaufman-documenting-the-disappearing-street-art-of-wynwood/ http://jnack.com/blog/2015/01/04/when-will-wearable-cameras-be-a-thing/ webmaster tools is indicating I have 374 links from the leica site, 174 links from the richardbernabe site and 77 from the njack one. They are all different blog posts! I have disavowed all three domains. Can anyone explain what has caused this multiplication of links from these particular sites? Looking for a dedicated Backlinks/Disavow Platform

Hi Guys, Can anyone recommend a good backlinks program. One which is able to detect spammy backlinks and which has a disavow feature. I've tried Monitor Backlinks, Would appreciate any further suggestions. Priorities are ability to monitor new links and their value, loss of links, link opportunities, with the ability to create recommended opportunity lists and disavow files - ideal if can be used in some way for client reporting also - dashboard or pdf etc. Help with access to contract link builders (perhaps star rated for quality and efficacy) to go after the opportunity lists also a bonus etc. Basically what are people using out there and really liking!? NB: we use moz for some stuff and have a mix of other tools available but nothing seems to be really nailing this for us. Thanks!!

Google.com showing as backlink provider in Webmaster Tools?

Hi Everyone 🙂 Looking in the 'Links to your site' section of webmaster tools today and my top backlinking domain is google.com which is apparently giving me 113 links. The second top referring site is googleapis.com which apparently isn't even a site when I type it into my browser? Does anyone else get Google.com as a site linking to them? and why would Google be linking to us, where would these links be coming from? Any info appreciated 🙂 Regards

How do I give a proper back-link?

Happy Sundays beautiful Moz people! So I am giving a back link to a friend of mine who has done wonderful work for my company. (he's a painter general contractor and framer who has redone some stuff on my building). I want to give him a shoutout on my blog and highlight the amazing work he's done and I want his website to get a nice boost. My Domain authority is 27 and so I wrote a blog which I never do about him and linked him in the blog. Now obviously the page authority is a 1 on my blogs. So should I be interlinking my blog page to my home page in the post? And just out of curiosity how much to your page authority matter in the back linking process? I searched on google but people only talk about how to get backlinks, and not the proper way to give them. Thanks crew. I love ya!

Using Bing's linkfromdomain: operator I'm finding spam links

Hi I've recently discovered Bing's linkfromdomain: operator and have been testing it on a few of my wordpress sites which are running the DIVI theme from elegant themes These are new sites with little or no content yet I was a bit alarmed when the results showed site I definitely had not linked to eg slickdeals dot net

9gag dot com
flowers.ftd dot com
www.jmldirect dot com
pubs.rsna dot org is this an error from the Bing linkfromdomain: operaror because when I run the domains through xenu these sites do not show Hope someone can help
