Chat through link building best practices and outreach techniques.

  • I have been searching around to figure out if submitting articles to ezine, article base, etc. would produce quality incoming links for my website.  Would ezine and article base provide quality incoming links? Thanks in advance!

  • I need help with my link building efforts so I have started to search around for companies and/or freelance contractors to hire.  I always ask for examples of sites they are working on.  In many cases the number of inbound links are high (9306) compared to the number of root domains that are linked to (143).  Or as in this sample (120792) inbound links compared to (157) linking domains http://www.shortsalesafe.com.  How can this be?  To me the only logical answer is "link farms" or some other form of black hat magic. Am I right in my assumption, or is there another logical answer for so many links with so few linking domains.? Thanks Gary

  • Hello, We have an online soccer equipment retail store (http://www.soccerstop.com) that we have been working on to get higher ranking results in many different areas of specific product pages, as well as our general homepage for several years.  SeoMoz has been an excellent addition for us to learn and analyze, etc. In addition to our current PPC, and SEO efforts, we are going to create a blog as we have many thoughts, opinions and interesting information for what hopefully will be a good sized audience of soccer enthusiasts!  We currently have a person who goes on other soccer blogger websites and offers our thoughts and expressions, but we now want to give our own blog. My thought is to create a subdirectory of our domain something like: http://www.soccerstop.com/blog as that seems what is recommended in many posts here in this forum. I am also thinking of using wordpress blog as it also seems recommended.  We have a lot of ideas about content, and feel we will bring people to our blog in various ways through our existing and coming customers at the retail online store.  However, it seems to get the best backlink performance possible out of our new blog, we need to join blog networks to get our blogs posted on outside third party websites.  Is this right, and where would I begin to understand and start this process?  I understand the first step is to get our blog started, but I want to foundationally have an idea where we are going with this as we build.  This way it is built in a sound way, ready to be as effective as possible!  Please understand I am a builder and not the blogger, which is why the structure and initial setup of syndication is so important to me! Thanks for any advice.

  • Hi all, We've been working on improving our ranking for a specific keyword for the past couple of months. Progress has been steady if not spectacular (it's a very competitive keyword). Last week we obtained (not bought!) a site wide link from a partner (nothing fishy, they are business partners in the same industry) as well as a link each from a relevant resource site and a directory with good PA/DA. The anchor text used on the new links is keyword rich. This week our rankings have fallen dramatically from page 2 to page 39 for our targeted page although other pages on our site still rank well for this keyword. The targeted page is still indexed by Google. Could Google just be reassessing our ranking for this page and it will return to its previous rank or is it likely it has received a keyword specific penalty? Thanks in advance.

  • Hi We are doing following kinds of Link Building: 1. Article marketing 2. Directory Submission 3. Guest Blogging 4. Press Release submission 5. Infographics (Viral Marketing) I know blog commenting and links from discussion forums are considered as greyhat / blackhat by google. So I want suggestions on some other ethical(Whitehat SEO) ways of Link Building to get quality Links. Also suggest me some Free article submission sites which give " dofollow-links" Thank You

  • Hello, I have fairly recently taken up a position as an in-house SEO, having previously had my own (not terribly successful) ecommerce venture, so my SEO experience is at beginner level. I have read a LOT in coming up with a strategy (Laura Lippay's 8 Step Strategy, amongst so much more on here, has been epic), and have come up with something fairly comprehensive. However, it's taken me months! This is partyly due to other non-SEO responsibilities, and partly due to finding my way around all the tools & resources available, how everything fits together and what should be prioritised over what. This is massively inefficient for future projects, or indeed if I ever got a job in agency, and so I need to get quicker/more productive. I keep reading about identifying and capitalising on 'low hanging fruit' - how does one go about this? Details would be hugely appreciated - starting from the bottom up, i.e. keyword research, competitive & backlink analysis, link building etc. For the record, I have zero coding capabilities (something I plan to rectify one day soon) and so my strategy revolves primarily around content and outreach, rather changing site architecture. In any case, our website seems well put together, since new content is indexed very quickly. Thanks so much in advance, Ali (UK)

  • Hey there. I'm new here at our company, and I'm working on SEO for a website we are working on (www.greenthumbdepot.com). We are doing some link-building (forums, articles, blogs, directory submissions, etc) and are currently trying to find some good quality links, as well. After 3 months, the site was on page 15 for the search term "hydroponics nutrients" on Google, and on the first pages of organic search for Bing and Yahoo!. However, looking again, our website has disappeared from the first 50 pages of Google (according to SEOMOZ). From what I can see, the incoming links are not spammy, and the articles we have been submitting have been driving a small amount of traffic to the site. Are we doing something incredibly wrong here? We've changed the meta tags a couple of nights ago. I'm a noob here, so please go easy on me! I'm learning... so thanks for any advice you can give. -jen

  • Merry Christmas everyone. You shouldn't really be reading this question on Christmas Eve but as you're here... ...I'm looking to outsource most of my link building to a good partner. Can anyone recommend a person or company that they have used in the past who has delivered good results. I have used oDesk in the past and paid peanuts and got appropriate results in return. Poor quality links that everyone else was going after and that disappeared after a few days or weeks. I am very dubious of using these automated link creation sites the web is littered with, and most of them are dodgy link farms or worse. Ideally I would provide a set of keywords each month and the partner would spend their time working on links based around these terms and the content on our site(s). Your comments, suggestions and ideas are all very welcome. Have a fun Christmas everyone Scott.

  • I am working on link building campaign and trying to gather inbound links from various subject external websites. I have big confusion with this effort. I am working on eCommerce website and getting inbound links from technology related website. So, Does it really matter for better performance? I want to give one example to get more idea. I am selling table lamps on my website and trying to get inbound links from that kind of websites which are highly dominating to table lamps or lighting industry. But, This is not only one case. Sometime, I have opportunities to create inbound links from different subject website. Simply, If I will compile one content for UGC section on SEOmoz and links to my website with table lamps so, Will it help me to rank for table lamps keyword? Exact match hyperlinks on external website always matter::: That I aware about it. But, what about subject orientation. I am Table Lamps monster & you are SEO monster. So, Will Google give benefit to that kind of links which are dominating different subject? I have solved some issues about quality of website after installing SEOmoz toolbar in my browser. Because, I or We are visiting multiple websites during daily stuff and may find out opportunities to drop our website link over there. But, I have fear to drop my website link in any website. Does it really matter quality or website & How can I judge it better rather than SEOmoz toolbar? I have added such a big question with proper declaration but, I want to jump in to link building campaign and want to earn good value after my long term effort.

  • Hi, All! Artificial link exchanges (contacting a vaguely connected site and requesting to exchange links to increase your PR) is, as far as I know, considered an outdated, not-so-smart technique, as Google might devalue them. Yet, for real business partners to exchange links seems to be an entirely accepted and encouraged technique. While that would be intuitive to a human who's viewing the pages. how might Google detect when two sites that link to each other are linking because they are trusted business associates (valuable) as opposed to when they are doing a link exchange (devalued)? Thanks! Aviva

  • I have a few sites that are outranked by competitors having hundreds of directory links and links from unrelated sites. Obviously I'am doing everything I can; on page optimization is superb, building good links as much as I can, but not huge amounts, taking care of fresh content whcih is of better quality than the competitors, ect. etc. But for one specific site I just can't get higher than #3 while my competitor ranks #1 and #2. I have been fairly succesful making sites rank well in somewhat competitive niches, but this is one of the things that keep bugging me. Sometimes I even feel like buying these type of links myself... But I keep telling myself that Google will catch up one day. Any advice is kore than welcome. Thanks

We are looking for someone that can give us guarantee results on the first page of the major search engines. As well as showing us our benchmarks from where our keywords were previously to where they will be when the campaign is over. If anyone can help us out we really need some help.

  • Hello, I am a beginner in SEO and I have been reading a lot recently about article directories and article marketing. I have already started writing for article directories, ezinearticles particularly, but  I still have mix feelings about it: does it really worth spending some time to write unique articles and to submit them to directories? How does Google feel about it? What do you think about small linkwheel strategies to give some weight to the content you create?

  • Hi all, I just started working on the optimization of highly competitive keywords on one website. I already started posting articles in reputable directories, but as you know, more quality links are needed. To do that I created the following strategy: (see the uploaded image or http://i.imgur.com/9HCiM.png) The idea is to buy new domain and build page rank to this domain by other 3,4 domains that I will buy with PR3. Those 3 domains will contain low quality text generated by spinner just to keep that PR. Then those 3 domains will give PR to the newly created website which will contain only professionally written information and sometimes will give links to me. At the end I will get high quality links. I know it's hard work, but posting PR articles will not be enough. I will continue to spy the competition via SEOMoz OSE but for now that is the idea that I have for quality links. Share your opinion 🙂 9HCiM.png

  • Hi, How difficult would it be to rank a new page above the likes of Wiki, About, Squidoo etc? I have a keyword I would like rank but most of the domains on first page are the likes of the above, wiki, about, squidoo etc. The pages themselves dont have a high Page Auth its just the root domain. Will it still be very hard to rank above these types of sites? Cheers

  • I'm wondering how much additional directory links to a site, on a monthly basis, would be too much, and potentially seen as too manufactured in Google's eyes.  I am referring specifically to good quality, or relevant, directory links, nothing very spammy.  I know there is no specific number, just wondering what the consensus is. Would a 10% monthly increase in linking root domains generally be considered too much?  5%? Thanks for your input!

  • SEOMOZ is great, it told me all the pages with 404 errors, however what would be more useful is if it told me where those links were located? Is this not available through this site, or am I just not seeing that information? If anyone knows of a how to, that is easy to moderate in difficulty to back track broken links I would appreciate it.

  • For back linking, what is more important for increasing rank for organic searches on Google? I've noticed that linking on sites with high domain authority that have some or no relevance boost my keyword ranking. However, does back linking on relevant sites help if their domain authority is not so high?

  • Hi Folks I have been doing some analysis via SEOMOZ tools of www.anglianhome.co.uk which shows that in their linking root domains they have links from apple.com wordpress.com bravenet.com Are these genuine links or have Anglian managed to spam/black hat the process some how because I cant find any reference to their home improvement firm website on any of these major global websites?  But it is obviously working because for searches here in the UK it appears prominently on many competitive search phrases.

  • In an effort to make is easier for our clients to link to content on our site we intend on creating a simpler url structure for them: site.com/1234 will 301 to site.com/xyz/abc/1234-this-is-where-we-want-you Is there a danger of creating new 301's just for this purpose, the goal here is to make it easier for clients to link to content and thus garner more inbound links.

  • I've been reviewing the PA and DA of news releases on PRWeb.com.  While PRWeb has a very high DA=96, the vast majority of news releases have a PA=1, even those that are several months or several years old. 1. What is the affect of a follow back link with PA=1 and DA=96? 2. Although the vast majority of news releases have a PA=1, there are a few with a PA=40 plus.  Further analysis revealed that these pages had one or two back links from other root domains.  So, it appears that it is possible to boost the PA of your news release by linking to it from another root domain.  Would it be advisable to link to your own news release from other root domains so as to boost the PA, and thus have back links to your site with a good PA and excellent DA? Best,
    Christopher

  • My company's website has inbound links from very high DA websites (LinkedIn 96, Yelp 91, etc.) but from pages with very low PA (1).  These low PA pages are the company listings pages. In the case of Linked In, there are several products/services listed with ideal anchor text to the relevant pages on our site. How do these links effect our overall ranking and trust, and why aren't they listed when I use OSE to analyze my pages? Thanks!

  • Hello! I have been offered the possibility of having a link to my site included in this page, but I am a bit confused with it's metrics and I was wondering if you could help me cast some light on the matter. Why does it have Page and Domain authority 1? And why does it have page rank 3? Is it dodgy or should I go for it? Thank you! PS: It's not a paid link, it would be a partnership that would imply a link in this site.

  • Hi i would like some ideas on how i promote some websites that do not belong to me. The reason i would like to promote them is because they are newspaper sites that have written articles about me that have appeared in newspapers and now they have appeared on their website. One newspaper article that was done last week which is on their site is already on page two but others that were done some time ago, a few months ago are on page six and seven and i would like to try and get them on page one. Any ideas on how i can do this would be great as this would be great to gain as much exposure from these articles as possible

  • I have two rafting websites. One ranks high for one set of keywords. The other ranks okay for a different set. I want to redirect the whole second site to the first to give the first more link juice and hopefully lift the first site even more in the rankings. Would it be better to link to a deeper page of the 1st site. I have a page that does well for some long tail keywords or would it be better to link to the main page. Or is it a bad idea over all.

  • Is there a value of using Google Content Network to add no follow links to the general linkscape of a website? I notice a lot of competion higher than me on SERPs for specific keywords have these links from website with high DA. We have tested the value of having Adsense adds, but they do not convert the traffic. We might consider using them for the purposes of ranking higher on SERPs though, and would appreciate any experinces with this.

  • I have ended up with several hundred sites which I purchased off the seo company I use as they went belly up.  I purchased them as I had spent a small fortune buying links for the years and I thought that if they went under all my links would be lost. When they transferred the sites into my accounts in go daddy the owners names changed to one owner!  Therefore google either know that I own them or at the very least know that only a few people own them as I had four go daddy accounts. Previously they were all registered to different people.  The registrar details have since been changed to various owners but I guess the damage is done.  I have gone from pos3 pg1 to pos3 pg2.  I ranked highly for lots of terms and they have all dropped. I don’t want to be using black hat techniques and my intention was to continue to build content on these sites with a view to adding links to other relevant sites in the future. Not all of them link to me and they do link to lots of other sites that the seo company did work for  To be honest my only concern short term was not to loose the links.  Now I feel the links are considered worthless by google and I don’t know if I should keep the sites or throw them away! I think all the sites need redesigning and updating and this is what I intended to do.  However now that google have seen that they once were owned by one person have they become worthless?

  • Our website has been experiencing a slow but steady decline in rankings despite our activity on social media platforms, is there any value in paying a large sum for bulk directory submission? Or will this only result in our overall website authority decreasing further due to unnatural links. Would really appreciate any help.

  • Hi there, I'm trying to find an ethical, honest, link building company. We don't want links on shady forums, or comment spam, or any of that black hat nastyness!. I want links, on proper sites, and I'm prepared to pay for them accordingly. We're also more than happy to write/have written/ quality content that can be linked to. (We already pump out about 15 x 400+ word, optimised blogs weeks) We spend hours on the various social media sites also. So I think the only thing we're really missing now, is decent backlinks and possibly some more long tail keywords... Over to you guys. Paul.

  • Will links from blog directories to our subfolder-located blog within our website help the ranking of our overall site?  In other words, will it just help the rankings of the main blog page (where the directory links are pointing to), or will it pass the link juice to the rest of the site? Thanks!
