  • I was wondering, Is there any value in these days to advice clients to create LINK US or LINKS page with bunch of reciprocal links on it and  solely for link exchange, I remember reading somewhere that, it is little useless in terms for ranking nowadays? Am I right? Thanks!

  • Hi, I am planning to get to an agreement with some blogs to have my banner that link to my site. My question: Is this Good for SEO, Bad or Neutral? Thanks in advance, Maria Jesus

  • I own a gaming site and a common practice with gaming sites is to link with other sites that post about similar game franchises. I noticed that some sites do this and they put nofollows on their links back. What is your thought on this? Should I remove their link if they do that? Should I keep it up and just be glad to get thousands of nofollow links in return for some dofollows out of my site?

  • Helllo I need help understanding the following scenario. We do campaign tracking for number of our sites using urt parameters. These are normally PR links with utm parameters. I am not sure if we should remove the utm parameter and forget about tracking the links completely if it offers an added SEO value with direct links OR we just keep using utm parameters for PR tracking and use canonical tag instead on respective pages. For me SEO value is most important. But i am trying to understand what i am losing or gaining. Kindly sugggest Thanks

  • Hello Guys, I am relatively new to the SEO world. So I am just wondering what would be more helpful. Getting the homepage ranked for a list of targeted keywords or creating a separate page for each keyword and then getting those pages ranked? Look forward to hear back, Thanks! Naimath

  • My link builders are doing an excellent job of creating well written articles with my links in the body of the text.  However, most of them state it is a guest post at the top or bottom of the post.  I also notice that the sites the articles are on frequently accept guest posts. 1. Does having the label "guest post" devalue the links at all? 2. Does the fact that the sites often allow for guest posts devalue the links?

  • Hey guys. I recently started doing a directory submission program for new website. Right now I am submitting to 20 directories per day, as well as social bookmarking around 10 blog posts per day. I noticed a small drop in our Google rankings since doing this. Is this because it is too much? Or is it just Google re-adjusting itself to cope with the changes. As ever, really appriciate the help I get off the guys on here. Big love to you all 🙂

  • We use PRWeb for our press releases and carefully choose the anchor text with a link back to our site at metrix.com. This year, we've put out about 8 releases, all with these links included. However, when I drill down to prweb.com in Open Site Explorer, I'm only seeing one link coming from one of those releases. It is definitely an external, followed link when I highlight the releases with MozBar, and I don't see any other differences that would help explain this. Can anyone explain why these links aren't showing up? Thank you.

  • I have come up with a very creative way to get some great back links using white hat methods. The problem is that the back links to the site would be to an interior page or external promotional website which then have links back to the main website. What kind of value for the main domain would this potentially achieve. What are peopLes thoughts on this idea?

  • I have a number of clients that own businesses in 'boring' sectors, such as: Toxic Waste Removal Steel Erecting Household Plumbing (Boilers, etc...) Link building for these sites is quite difficult. Creating compelling content and 'link bait' is particularly tricky. I found a good post from Michael Gray on the subject, but I don't think food (or McDonalds in this case)is a particularly difficult subject to write about. Any more tips on how to approach this would be appreciated. Thanks

  • When launching a site to google.com where can you submit it to get a few quick lnks to be enough for indexing and startup? As I saw directory pages are kinda slow you can wait months for your submission. How can you gain quick links? Can you name some sites?

  • After having employed many different methods for finding good link partners I am now finding it more difficult to reach out and identify good quality links for a niche area such as real estate. Does page rank factor into the search much or is it better to focus on page / domain authority as a major factor?

  • I have an idea for a cartoon that, once created, is likely to be shared a lot in my niche.  I'm currently hiring someone to draw the cartoon.  My question, though, is the best way to get SEO benefit out of this. If you had a cartoon that was likely to go viral would you publish it as a blog post on your site?  People tend to like sharing things that are on imgur or flickr, but these won't help my seo.  (Other than perhaps if I end up getting good PR on a flickr image and then link back to my site.) I'm likely going to just publish this as a blog post on my site, but I thought I'd float this out there for other people to give their input. Have you ever used a cartoon or image for linkbait?

  • I have had my site registered for a long time (since January 1995) and in that time we have built a good number of incoming links. We have a vendor database that we expose as a service to our visitors, which numbers around 5,500. These sites vary dramatically from low-end, Mom-and-Pop type web sites (some ugly in the extreme :)) to nationwide, established vendors. Back in the day, we had the basic tactic to request a link to our site if the vendor wanted to be listed in our vendor database. We stopped that practice years ago but still have many sites linking to us. The quality of some of these sites is very poor. I want to come up with a strategy for dealing with these. To that end, some questions: How "costly", from an SEO perspective, is a poor quality site that links to our site? What metric(s) should be used to assess the quality of sites linking to us? If possible, for the aforementioned metric is there a "bar" we might try to hit? For example, would it be useful to request removal of links where <metric>is less than x? What is x?</metric> Given that we have thousands to assess, is there any report I can create to identify these sites? Is it generally preferred to have vendors link simply to our home page or is it more effectice to have them link to particular pages on our site (each vendor can generally be associated with a "topic" on our site). In short, I am willing to go through this process if there is real value in it. Thanks. Mark

  • We are trying to build up article content on our website, and are looking at soliciting fresh articles from authors on various subjects, and in turn give them an author link back to their website or blog in exchange for writing the article. Our website has massive traffic so this would be a good thing for the author. My question is this: If I put a couple of anchor text links into the article, having them pointed at various pages on my site, and then allow the author to link back to his site, will I lose the link love in the anchor text? Or does it depend on the number of anchor links I have? Like 3 to 1 type ratio.

  • Hi Guys, I'm after some advise please. We have a client who offers self catering accommodation to let on his website. We are looking at ways to increase links to his site and one idea we had was to possibly affiliate ourselves with local companies within the areas of the specific accommodation. Our client is looking to partner with local business's in each area of said accommodation (probably two of each kind) and then send the details of these business' with whatever special deals they will offer customers on every confirmation that goes out to the clients.  Obviously, in return, these business' will then link to Room-B. What I'm trying to find out is if linking to partners via an email delivered from thewebsite is safe in terms of link juice: it's important that Google doesn't index any outbound links to partners from us at all. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

  • Hi everyone, I'm relatively new to SEO, and I have a question on a link building strategy for a holiday resort I am working on. The resort has a paintball arena and zorbing facilities at their premises. I want to use this in the link building strategy and the owners have agreed to have an open day for bloggers. Basically the resort will invite 20 local bloggers for a day to their resort. They get to play paintball, zorbing and get to see the resort in exchange for an honest write up about their day at the resort. I am looking at asking the bloggers to write about the event twice (Once before, and once after they visit the resort) with a minimum of 4 links to the website. I want to know how I can identify the top bloggers? What factors should I consider while making a list of 20 bloggers, and how do I measure these factors? Also, is this a good strategy for link building? And please feel free to add anything else you think I am missing out on, or will help in the link building. Cheers! Arjun

  • I have read all the data regarding the number of links per page, but my question has to do with the number of  internal links to a particular page. After looking at some of the competition inside Open Site Explorer I can see that the competitor in question  has a much smaller number of links going to the desired page then the site I am comparing. The competitor is outranking a page  that should be ranking higher due to higher page authority and external root domain links. Internal Links to Page: 9,950 Competitor Page  Internal LInks: 208 Is this a situation where the sheer number of internal links is discounted because of page rank distribution throughout the site? Just want to get some clarity here. Thank you for your responses.

  • It is hard to sum up the question in one line, but basically my company has bought several descriptive domains that we would like to build out into microsites that link back to our main site. For example...say we are a florist. Our main site talks about all the different kinds of flowers we have and the work we do. So the idea is to buy weddingflowersdallas.com (example only...) and have a mini site that has the same look and feel as our main site, but has unique content that talks solely about our wedding flower business and has a few links back to our main site. 1. Is this a no no from a google perspective? 2. Is this a good strategy in general? Thanks, David

  • Hey Guys, I am currently doing article marketing for one of my terms on my dads site (I will not publicly post the url). We have been working to rank for this term for several years and are on the second page near the top, we want to be in the top 5 for the term and we are willing to spend any ammount of money it takes to learn this thing! We were introduced to article marketing not to long ago so we have hired content writers to write articles on our niche and then we are manually (I MYSELF) am going into article sites and listing the articles with a link back to our site with the anchored keyword txt (1 link per article). We have been doing 10 articles per keyword (there is several keywords we want to rank for) so we are spreading it out slowly building these article links. Is this the correct process or are we missing something? These are real UNIQUE articles only being put on 1 article site never being posted anywhere else.

  • I know, I know, you should really create great content that attracts great links, but if you're looking to outsource, what do you think about an outfit like SYNND http://synnd.com/ ? I'm worried that it may be shady or that the links will end up leaving a footprint and that the links will not help promote the content and only end up hurting rankings. Any thoughts? Are there any good paid link building services? Not sure who to trust. Thanks!

  • Hi I would really appreciate any advice or guidance on what my site needs to move onto the 1st page as I am at a loss on what else is required? On a search for chartered accountants swansea according to the SEOMOZ campaign ranking report the site www.harrisbassett.co.uk is down in 27 position for this keyphrase in Google. However when looking over the ranking analysis my site has a stronger authority, more root domains, more domain authority and linking root domains than 4 out of the top 5 listings.  Also the onpage analysis of some of the top 10 results is very poor, with no blogs, social features etc I have been building links based from competitor analysis which should be more than what is shown in the ranking report, but is my site missing any kep ingredients that would propel it up onto the 1st page - as the keyword difficulty is only 25% so I am struggling to work out what key elements/improvements are required for this final push.

  • Hi guys, New guy to SEO and new site, need some help. I've got a really good article (Deal Guide: How to Pay $50/mo (or nothing) for Unlimited Everything on AT&T), a few days old and it's already going viral on StumbleUpon and is getting shared on Facebook and Tweeted. My question is, now what? What can I do to boost it's value?  I feel like I should be doing something to further push my article and build recognition for my new website. Should I run a Facebook sponsored story and further increase "likes" and shares? Blog/Forum commenting? I've done a little bit of this but there's so many iPhone 4s articles out there, that I don't know where to start. Should I be hitting the high PR pages? How can I find out if comments are follow/no-follow? Any other ideas?

  • I've been building links consistently to our site for the past three months. At first, some of my tactics were rather shady. As I learned more, I started to get more quality links. I have noticed that a very small percentage of my active links are currently indexed. Should I do something to get these older links indexed or just keep building new links? Will building shady links to unindexed links get them indexed? Will this get my site penalized? Does pinging help? What resource should I use to ping these unindexed links? Forgive me if this is a really basic question. I'm still learning the ropes.

  • I need to get high quality do-follow links and my target market/keyword is ‘Maui wedding’ and a few others. Because it is such a competitive market I am having a hard time getting links from local companies providing Maui Weddings (I know why because they are my competitors) and national companies sites aren't much help because they are trying to provide leads to their advertisers. I would like do-follow links from non-paid sources any ideas or resources you could help with would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

  • If a client asks "why should I spend time and money on SEO?", how would you answer? Is "to be found in search engines" the answer? If so, wouldn't it be more cost effective to use PPC instead of SEO? Is link building a waste of time and money? Is it better to just concentrate on quality content?
