    Hello, My sites are showing odd "links to your site" data in WMT. Its not showing any links to the homepages and reduced links for other pages. Anyone else seeing this? Penguin refresh maybe?

    We have hundreds and hundreds of pages with similar ads on. We are getting content written for these pages right now and we're removing some pages, but we're wondering how Panda might see the ads which we have across the site? The ads consist of the name of a company and a description and a few other bits. The description is the same on all pages that a company's ad is listed on - and that can be hundreds of pages. Clearly Panda wouldn't hit duplicate content in nav bards, sidebars etc... but this is in the content area of the page so it did make us wonder. This could make a difference to how we proceed so we appreciate your thoughts. Regards, Phil

    I have a site with the ace/sef  ( creates friendly URLS) in a large data base site. It creates a site map dynamically. Yet I realize one issue which I am trying to think through. I recently changed my urls to include an ID number example: homepage/houses/1134-big-blue-house The prior url was:  homepage/houses/big-blue-house the original url above redirects to the new one with the ID like I want. However the site map has both URLS in it which go to same page I am not sure but it seems rather stupid to have the new URL and OLD redirected URL in the site map. Yet beside stupid I am wondering if this is duplicate content and will cause a penalty from the google bot. What is your opinion ?

    I'm trying to make some sense of Google's rich snippets and microdata/Schema.org. Wondering if it's allowed to have reviews or an aggregateReview for a Person, rather than a Thing, Product or Place. Of course, a Person is a Thing, but when I try to validate my markup with Google's Structured Data Testing Tool, it tells me: Warning: Page contains property "aggregaterating" which is not part of the schema. Anyone have any ideas here?

    We have long lists of products are displayed on individual web pages ... with the only variations being in product dimensions and prices. Could the Search Engines consider these lengthy lists of products for sale to be attempted spamming efforts?     Hi everyone, I have spent the last 3 weeks using SEO Moz to improve the SEO of my website. I have reduced the amount of crawl errors from 6000 to 600, I have optimized my on-page to A grade for 4 of my main keywords and have been posting keyword optimized blogs posts 3 / 4 times weekly. My reward for this? A drop down to page 4 of Google for my main keyword and a very annoyed boss! Can anyone think where I may have gone wrong? Thanks

    I have seen two forms of rel=author syntax. Are they both valid? (1) (2) Second, does 'no follow' take away authorship? Is there any point in doing rel=author for a link that is rel=no follow? Like this:

    So my website I do local SEO for, xyz.com  is finally getting better on some keywords (Thanks SEOMOZ) But only pages that are like this xyz.com/better_widgets_ or xyz.com/mousetrap_removals Is Google penalizing me possibly for some duplicate content websites I have out there (working on, I know I know it is bad)...

    Hi all I hope someone can help me out with the following question in regards to 'no follow' and 'do follow' links in combination with WordPress plugins. Some plugins that deal with links i.e. link masking or SEO plugins do give you the option to 'not follow' links. Can someone speak from experience that this does actually work?? It's really quite stupid, but only occurred to me that when using the FireFox add on 'NoDoFollow' as well as looking at the SEOmoz link profile of course, 95% of my links are actually marked as FOLLOW, while the opposite should be the case. For example I mark about 90% of outgoing links as no follow within a link masking plugin. Well, why would WordPress plugins give you the option to mark links as no follow in the first place when they do in fact appear as follow for search engines and SEOmoz? Is this a WordPress thing or whatnot? Maybe they are in fact no follow, and the information supplied by SEO tools comes from the basic HTML structure analysis. I don't know... This really got me worried. Hope someone can shed a light. All the best and many thanks for your answers!

    Hi.. We specialize in CMS Development and all of our keywords were spotted on 1st page always. Most of them were on #1 only. ON a weekly basis, we only post resourceful blog posts on our website . Since 2-3 months, I have seen quite some drop in traffic and today when I tried the rank status, I see the keywords have dropped to 4th or 5th page. Is there a way, I can track, what went wrong ? Where to start with ? The site always ranked good since 2 years of its start already.

    We had some content on our own website indexed by Google and the content was changed later. But that content is still showing up in Google results. Of course because it was indexed. Its very important for us that content should not show up in Google. So how to remove that content quickly from Google Index? I know normally when it crawl again it will show new content.     Hi i am looking in google webmaster tools and i have seen a major problem which i hope people can help me sort out. The problem is, i am being told that 77 urls are being denied access. The message when i look for more information says the below Googlebot couldn't crawl your URL because your server either requires login to access the page, or is blocking Googlebot from accessing your site. the responce code is 403 here is a couple of examples http://www.in2town.co.uk/Entertainment-Magazine http://www.in2town.co.uk/Weight-Loss-Hypnotherapy-helped-woman-lose-3-stone i think the problem could be that i have sent them to another url in my httaccess file using the 403 re-direct but why would it bring up that google bot could not crawl them any help would be great

    Hello All, I have a conundrum that I thought I'd resolved - but that's popped its gnarly old head over the parapet again. I have a number of websites that I'd like to have show my ugly Google+ mug as author in the Google SERPS. I jumped through all the authorship verification hoops that Google threw at me and I thought I'd won. The problem? I have three names: Nick Beresford-Davies. One example of a page that I'm trying to achieve authorship with is: http://www.graphic-design-employment.com/illustrator-how-to-make-a-pattern.html I have verified authorship of the above website on my Google Profile:
    https://plus.google.com/u/0/107765436751760696335/about Originally I footed the page with Nick Beresford-Davies (hyphenated) and the Structured Data Testing Tool ignored the hyphen and just saw Nick Beresford. So I tweaked my online name (to please Google!) to Nick Beresford Davies (no hyphen). Initially this seemed to work - but I just checked again and now Google, for reasons only known to itself, sees "nick davies" as the author, completely ignoring the name in the footer of the page (by Nick Beresford Davies) and the fact that the site has been verified by Google+. This is also the case for all other websites that I contribute to - and not all the bylines are in the footer - some are by the headline. When I test pages on the structured testing tool and enter my Google+ profile, it replies: nick davies, we've found your name as one of the authors from the page. You can use "Authorship verification by email" method above to verify your authorship.Error: Author name found on the page and Google+ profile name do not match. Please consider adding markup to the site.Much as I would like to succeed on the Google SERPS, I draw the line at changing my name to keep this robot happy - so if anyone has any suggestions, or can see any obvious step that I've missed, I'd be very grateful. I find it hard to believe that no other double-barrelled website author exists - so I'm hoping I'm not the only one to have experienced this... Thanks!

    http://www.customgreekthreads.com/, we used to rank #1 or #2 for "Greek Apparel", "Greek Clothing" or "Greek Cloths" in google, but since January 21st 2013 (I guess it was after the google update), we started to rank down at around #8 or #9 for these keywrods. Other keywords have also slightly downgraded. Can you check what we might need to do to recover this or if we are doing anything wrong?

    Hi I've never recommended exact match domain names as good SEO ; the problem being that they don't help you create brand identity and even when someone remembers your site's name (seo-question-answer-forum.com for example) they are going to type it into Google and they'll see competitors all around the link in the SERP - and you'll probably only have one link, no site links. In a recent talk at a local Chamber of Commerce I drove this point home again with the new threat of penalties from Penguin (now and moving forward) and a reported EMD penalty that may or not be active in France. So I've pretty much convinced everyone that EMD's are now toxic and if they are thinking of launching a new site they should avoid them. But what if you have one already? I've had this question from people that were in the audience. Should they leave their domain now and set up a new site? Not sure how I should answer! The question comes from Chamber of Commerce audience and therefore people with bone fide businesses - so my gut feeling for the initial reasons above is "Yes" ; not using your company name as your main online identity was an error and you should correct it now. Create a new domain name and move to it via a simple 301 rewrite rule But am I right? Or are there cases where this is bad advice Neil in France

    We have recently signed up to SEOMOZ and found that our site had over 2,500 duplicated pages. We reported it the the web designer and they found links on the website to an old prototype version of the website and so they did a SQL run to get rid of them. Doing this got rid of 90% of them. However, this morning, moz has just done another crawl of our website and our keyword rankings have fallen off a cliff. Particularly, important one that we were at position 1 for. We are now on the fifth page. Can anyone shed any light on it? Will this be temporary? Thanks Stuart

    Hi, i made my home page shorter here www.in2town.co.uk because a couple of people on here said i should shorten my home page but i have noticed that the sun newspaper and other online newspapers have now made their home page longer, is this a good idea or a bad idea. Here is the sun newspaper http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/ The reason why i done it in the first place was to allow as much info to be on the home page as possible, showing all the different sections on my site and allow google to see as well as our visitors how often the site gets updated. I would love to hear your thoughts on if we should make our home page longer again like the sun newspaper or if you think this is a bad idea.

    An SEO newbie. I took a sabbatical from my site for 10 months for personal reasons & I'm  now coming back to it for the first time and facing a number of issues that I'd appreciate some advice on. 1)  In the past week, my rankings for my main keywords have suddenly plummeted from ~#7 - #8 to about #25. The only thing I've done in that time is sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and clean up a spammy-looking keyword-stuffed section at the foot of my homepage. (It read: Red keyword | blue keyword | green keyword | yellow keyword ... 20 times). I've kept the  links (to internal pages of my site) but removed keywords. I've no social presence whatsoever. No Twitter, Facebook, Digg, G+, Google Places, nothing -- but I can't imagine this is behind the sudden drop. 2)  Last year my rankings start to fall in late April. But for the first two months or so the drop was only from #1 to #2 - #3. I put it down to Penguin as my backlink profile is not ideal. About 5 years ago some SEO got me a mass of sitewide blog footer links with exact-match anchors -- some of which still remain. (Some domains have 750-plus links pointing back to my site). I've a sitewide banner (2,500 pages) on a site with a related theme to mine. I've loads of links from article directory sites (from when I knew no better). * Question: In Google Webmaster Tools I have not (yet?) received an unnatural links warning. Should I still clean up the links with the Link Disavow tool?

    I'm wondering whether there is a consensus within the SEO community as to whether noindexing pages vs. actually removing pages is different from Google Pandas perspective?Does noindexing pages have less value when removing poor quality content than physically removing ie. either 301ing or 404ing the page being removed and removing the links to it from the site? I presume that removing pages has a positive impact on the amount of link juice that gets to some of the remaining pages deeper into the site, but I also presume this doesn't have any direct impact on the Panda algorithm? Thanks very much in advance for your thoughts, and corrections on my assumptions 🙂

    One of my clients is going through a redesign and I am considering implementing schema.org and GoodRelations as it is an e-commerce website. The site sells cutting edge products and competes with some of the top tech blogs for rankings on the first page. Essentially, this means that e-commerce product listings are competing with news stories. It is becoming more and more difficult to rank as Google puts more emphasis on news over products in the serps, especially prior to a product release. My concern is that in implementing schema.org and GoodRelations, detailing to seach engines that this is in-fact a product page and not news could harm rankings. What opinions do others have on this?

    I work for a company that has a corporate G+ page. I have a personal G+ page. When I write articles for the company blog there are 2 questions that come up: (1) for the rel="author" tag within the blog posting on the company's blog, should I reference my personal G+ page, or the company's G+ page as the author? (2) which G+ page, mine or my company's, should share the link to the blog posting on the company's site? Or should both share it? My goal is to build up author rank for either me or the company I work for (don't care which) so that after a while the Google organic search listing will include the author thumbnail if the article ranks for the search query. I don't care if the thumbnail is me or my company; just trying to figure out how to best link everything to maximize the chance of getting an author thumbnail in the search rankings. Thanks!

Most of our link-juice is coming from another domain we purchased (theshockleyteam.com) that is redirected to our primary site. If I simply redirect theshockleyteam.com to our new domain (wellingtonfloridahomes.com) I will still have the link juice passing through, right? Thanks!

I want to be able to target certain words and have more customized words on certain pages. Has anyone dealt with this? I know .net is pretty common so I can't be a unique case.

    Hi, i see a lot of people claiming that paid seo tools work, i would like to know if anyone uses them. I have a new site that i am building and i am wondering if there are any good paid tools out there that could help me gain exposure quicker. I get a lot of emails from well known companies promoting their paid tools but have never bought any as i believe you should hear from people who have tried them first.     I successfully enabled rel=publisher on our WordPress blog, and as a test I also enabled rel=authorship for a set of blog posts.  (Tested both in Google's Rich Snippets Tester.)  However, on the individual blog posts the publisher credit disappears.  Is there a way to enable both to appear on blog posts?

    Hi guys, We're in the process of moving one of our sites to a newer version of the CMS. The new version doesn't support page extensions (.aspx) but we'll keep them for all existing pages (about 8,000) to avoid redirects. The technical team is wondering about the new pages - does it make any difference if the new pages are without extensions, except for usability? Thanks!

    After the last Panda update on Jan. 22 my rankings dropped significantly in the AU and UK but not in the US. We operate in UK and AU and not the US so if anything the rankings should be the opposite (which also obviously would be preferred) Any ideas for why this would occur?

    In the SEOMOZ site report a number of errors were found. One of which was no or duplicate meta desctions on certain blog pages. When I drilled down to find these i noticed thosepages are the wordpress autocreated archive pages. When I searched for these through the wordpress control panel through both pages and blogs they were nowhere to be found. Does anyone know how to find these pages or are they not something I need to worry about?

    Hi, i get a load of traffic from the bbc news website but not sure how this happens. For example we had a story the other day and according to my reports the traffic was coming from this page. http://www.bbc.co.uk//news/uk-wales-south-east-wales-21232826 but when i checked today to see the page i can see nothing about our story. BBC news has been really good to us for feeding us traffic but i am not sure how this happens as if i did then i would try and get all our stories seen by them. Any help would be great in understanding how bbc news is picking up our stories

    RE: Webmaster Tool "Not Found" URL Errors are strange links from webstatsdomain.com Should I continue to fix 404 errors for strange links from a website called webstatsdomain.com or is there a way to ask Google Webmaster Tools to ignore them? Most of Webmaster Tools "URL Not Found errors" I find for our website are from this domain. They refer to pages that never existed. For example, one was to www.mydomain.com/virtual. The code would instead read as ( This is heading 1 ).  Can anyone provide insights on this? Thanks!

    Dear All, I read somewhere that the use of the <noframes>tag when embending videos using iframes could be seen as cloacking, because you are delivering something to the people, and something "different" to the search engines.</noframes> For compatibility with IOs devices, iframe is the way to go with youtube videos, also with vimeo, but so far, any of my videos has been indexed by google. So, in your experience, what advice would you give to embed videos using those services (youtube, vimeo pro)? Would google index them if you place the old embed code between the <iframe></iframe>tags, without using <noframes>? Would you say that, without the use of noframes, one is doing cloacking?</noframes> I want to get my videos indexed, but I do not want to be penalized by google. Technically the use of noframes could be taken as cloacking, but if the content of both videos is the same, then it is not. What do you think? Thanks for your help, Daniel

    Hey guys, A site that I'm currently working on as different domains for each website language. So for example: word1word2.com for the english version word3word4.com for the french version word5word6.com for spanish version .... Is it better to move all of the different languages to the same domain and use subfolders for each language /fr/... Please note that the domains being used bring in organic traffic as well as they are EMDs. Thank You.

    Search engine analysis is indicating that my site has twin home pages (www.mysite.com and http://mysite.com). The error message I'm getting is:  "your website resides at both www.mysite.com and mysite.com. My uploaded index page is a .htm page (not .html).  I don't know if that matters. Can someone explain how this happened and what I can do to fix it? Thanks!
