    I need to know the evolution on SEO of a specific landing-page (an URL) of my web. Not a keyword, a url. Thanks.     its my turn to ask the interminable question why does my site rank so badly? site is: marriagerecords.org.uk. it was #1 for 'marriage records' on google for about 6 months. then it was 5th to 10th for about 2 months. now it is nowhere for this phrase and anything else, none of the pages I have written rank for anything. I have spent hours upon hours researching original content and I have got some great backlinks from sites like wrexham.gov.uk and somerset.gov.uk (some dont show in opensiteexplorer yet). im guessing im over-optimizing something but i'd love some concrete fixes if anyone could suggest any. thanks, tom

    At PakWheels.com we have URLs being generated in upper and lower cases. For example following URLs serve pages: http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/ Both show same content. Similarly in following four cases: http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/md_corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_Toyota/md_Corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/md_Corolla/ http://www.pakwheels.com/used-cars/search/-/mk_toyota/md_corolla/ all of these 4 URLs serve page with same content. What is the best practice for this issue, is it generating duplication? Please advise

    Hello!  Thanks for reading in advance! I've got a relatively old site (12 year old domain) that has experienced a drop in rankings specifically for our home page. Some of the key terms that I'd assume we would rank well for are: "expedite us passport" According to SEOMOZ, our on page optimization receives a C for the termr.  also, the root domain and page have decent links, etc. However; looking at Google (logged out and in incognito mode in chrome), a page on our site http://www.passportsandvisas.com/passport/index.asp ranks well and our HOME page isn't listed in the top 50 or 100. THis is the case for a lot of keywords we used to rank well for. I would have thought our home page would have at least outranked an internal page. Any thoughts would be very, very helpful!

My blog is a pr 5 website.  I don't want to make the switch and find out that google no longer ranks my pages and posts anymore.

    Hi, I have an internal search results page that contains approx 200 links in total. This links to approx 50 pages. Each result listing contains a link to the page in the format /page.html and also has 3 more links (for each listing) to named anchors within the page. eg /page.html#section1, /page.html#section2, /page.html#section3 etc. Should i remove the named anchors to keep my links per page under the Seomoz suggested max of 100? Will it impact crawl-ability or link juice being passed? Thanks in advance for your response.

    I have been using SEOmoz to clear errors from a site. There
    were over 10,000 errors to start with. Most of these were duplicate content, duplicate titles and too many links on a page. Most of the duplicate errors have now been
    cleared. This has been done in two weeks (down to around 3000 errors now). But instead of improving my rankings, pages that were on the second page of Google have started to drop out of the listings altogether. The pages that are dropping out
    are not related to the duplicate problems and get A grades when I run SEOmoz
    page reports. Can you clean up too much too quickly or is there likely to be another reason for it?

    I read somewhere that SEOMoz’s crawler marks a page in its Crawl Diagnostics as duplicate content if it doesn’t have more than 5% unique content.(I can’t find that statistic anywhere on SEOMoz to confirm though). We are an eCommerce site, so many of our pages share the same sidebar, header, and footer links. The pages flagged by SEOMoz as duplicates have these same links, but they have unique URLs and category names. Because they’re not actual duplicates of each other, canonical tags aren’t the answer. Also because inventory might automatically come back in stock, we can’t use 301 redirects on these “duplicate” pages. It seems like it’s the sidebar, header, and footer links that are what’s causing these pages to be flagged as duplicates. Does the SEOMoz crawler mimic the way Googlebot works? Also, is Googlebot smart enough not to count the sidebar and header/footer links when looking for duplicate content?

    Hi, for about a year now, our home page seems to have been "removed" from Google (except for our branded keywords).  The home page is clearly indexed, but none of the keywords for the home page rank in the top 500 (again, except for our brand, trophycentral).  Other pages in the site are fine and we rank in the top 10 positions for hundreds of keywords.  We are also okay on Yahoo and Bing.  So the issue is the home page from non-branded words.  There have been no manual penalties, but since the words, such as trophies and trophies and awards are all but gone, something is going on.  It has been almost exactly a year now and I have tried everything from removing backlinks (although I still can't tell which are "bad links", to changing titles, to improving speed and structure.  I have had quite a few really nice people try to help, but their suggestions don't seem to work or are too vague.  I really need an expert as the impact to the business of not having a home page performing is very damaging.  Thank you!!!

My trouble is google find that : http://vietnamfoodtour.com/?mod=booking&act=send_booking&ID=38 and http://vietnamfoodtour.com/.....booking.html are different page, but they are one but google indexed both of them. And the Duplcate content is raised 😞 how can i notice to google that they are one?

    Has anyone else run into this issue? I have a competitor that purchases domain names for popular inner pages we are trying to rank for. We are trying to build a brand, our competitors have a lower domain authority but rank higher for inner pages in the serps with VERY little content, backlinks/seo work, they host a single page and do a re-direct to their main site. Would this be a good long term strategy? EX. We sell golf clubs our brand name is golfcity (Ex only) and we carry callaway clubs, our competitor is also building a brand but they purchased callawayclubs.net and do a re-direct. They rank on page one for keywords callaway clubs. If I do try to do this does one have an advantage over another? .com. net .org. because Ive seem them all used and rank on page 1. Thank you!!!

    Hey all, A client finally sold a domain name after being harassed to sell for many years, without talking to us about it first. They moved the site to a new domain, and the purchasing company took over the original domain. Then they called me, wondering why the site is no longer showing up in Google. I've done some initial research, and everything I find for advice assumes that you have control over the original domain.  We don't.  I'm hoping someone here has some creative advice, so we don't have to start from the beginning, and/or painfully update links we've acquired. My only thought was that the new company may be kind enough to post 301's for us if we provided them.... Any thoughts / advice / life rings will be greatly appreciated!  🙂

    Hi, I'm doing an audit on a site that had a redesign in Dec 2009. For some reason I looked to see what kind of redirects were used from the old pages to the current ones, and it looks like they used 302s, which obviously isn't ideal. Given that it's been so long and those pages have looong since been de-indexed, is it worth me suggesting that they change those old redirects to 301s? My thinking is that if those old pages were linked to externally then I should recommend it, but I can't find any link info on Linkscape/OSE, Majestic SEO or YSE. Any comments appreciated.

    Hello, We've being doing SEO work for a company for about 8 months and it's been working really well, we've lots of top threes and first pages. Or rather we did. Unfortunately the web host who the client uses (who to recommended them not to) has had severe DNS problems. For the last three weeks Google has been unable to access and index the website. I was hoping this was going to be a quickly resolved and everything return to normal. However this week their listing have totally dropped, 25 page one rankings has become none, Google Webmaster tools says 'Google couldn't access your site because of a DNS error'. Even searching for their own domain no longer works! Does anyone know how this will effect the site in the long term? Once the hosts sort it out will the rankings bounce back. Is there any sort of strategy for handling this problem? Ideally we'd move host but I'm not sure that is possible so any other options, or advice on how it will affect long term rankings so I can report to my client would be appreciated. Many thanks Ric

    Hi, I want to ask you about something I 've read about google and authorship. It is written that it is better to show yourself as a author in a specific field. I myself have knowledge and interest in many fields - like SEO, vegan living, martial arts. And I want to be seen as specialist in all of them.  Does it mean that we are limited to mark with autorship articles in only one field, in order to be seen as expert in a specific field? f.e. Should I mark with "rel=author" the articles that are about SEO because I want to be seen as author in that specific field for sure. Iif I mark with "rel=author" articles also about martial arts would these affect the understanding about my expertise in SEO?

    I'm using DotNetNuke for many of our sites. DotNetNuke's home page can have multiple VALID URLs that go to the same home page. Example: http://aviation-sms.com http://www.aviation-sms.com http://aviation-sms.com/default.aspx http://www.aviation-sms.com/default.aspx and http://aviation-sms.com/aviationSMS.aspx http://www.aviation-sms.com/aviationSMS.aspx All the above URLs have the same content. In the page header tag, I have: Should I be doing something else? such as removing the "default.aspx"??? I have a blog also that has a boatload of pages. I tried this canonical approach, but I'm not sure SEO Moz likes it and the tool offers me little guidance on this issue.

    Hi, We had a coding update and a side-effect of that was that our directive was emptied, in other words it now reads as: on all of the site. I've since noticed that Google's cache date on all of the pages - at least, the ones I tested - have a Cached date of no later than 17 December '12 - that's the Monday after the directive was removed on mass. So, A, does anyone have solid evidence of an empty directive causing problems? Past experience, Matt Cutts, Fishkin quote, etc. And then B - It seems fairly well correlated but, does my entire site's homogenous Cached date point to this tag removal? Or is it fairly normal to have a particular cache date across a large site (we're a large ecommerce site). Our site: http://www.zando.co.za/ I'm having the directive reinstated as soon as Dev permitting. And then, for extra credit, is there a way with Google's API, or perhaps some other tool, to run an arbitrary list and retrieve Cached dates? I'd want to do this for diagnosis purposes and preferably in a way that OK with Google. I'd avoid CURLing for the cached URL and scraping out that dates with BASH, or any such kind of thing. Cheers,

    Hi, i am working on a product and services website www.clairehegarty.co.uk but the problem i have is, the site does not really change. The home page stays the same and the only time it changes is when a new course is advertised. The most important page on the website is http://www.clairehegarty.co.uk/virtual-gastric-band-with-hypnotherapy  but we have seen the site drop in rankings because the page is not being updated. This page has all the information you could want on weight loss but we have seen the page drop from number one in google to number four. I would like to know what steps we should take to increase our rankings in google and would be grateful for your suggestions. If i put in articles on the site, had a section where we put a new article every week, would this then get google to visit the whole site more and move our pages back up the rankings, or should we be looking at doing other things.

    Hi - I'm pretty new at this. We’re running an e-commerce affiliate site at http://www.mydomain.com. So we don’t take payments but customer gets passed through to third party sites when they select to buy a product. We have a blog at http://www.mydomain.com/news. I think Google is treating these 2 sites as as separate sites for PR.  For this reason we're thinking about moving this to http://news.mydomain.com.  Anyone have any experience in this?

    Hello, I have a website with bad urls (http://www.domain.com/site/page.php will become http://www.domain.com/page.php) and bad titles (keyword stuffing) and I have to fix all of them. Should I change the urls (and, yes, make the proper 301 redirects) and get crawled by the S.E., before I give a unique title for each page  or viceversa? Or maybe shoud I do everything at once? What's the best practice to minimize the ranking drop and how long will it take to resume (and increase) the previous ranking?

For example: http://www.citcop.se/varmepumpar-luft-luft/panasonic/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw http://www.citcop.se/panasonic/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw http://www.citcop.se/panasonic-nordic-ce9nke-5-0kw All of the above seem to work just fine as it is now but since they are excatly the same product they should ofcourse do a 301 redirect to the main page. Any ideas on how to sort this out in Magnto without having to resort to manual work in .htaccess? Have a great day Fredrik

    Hello Everyone, I have been running www.designzzz.com from lats 3 years now. and was doing extremely good with a PR 6 and 800K+ traffic monthly, but 6 months ago it started falling and falling badly.. now i am down to 350K total impressions :{ per month. I have been blaming penguin for this and been talking to google reps continously over it. they assured me that my site is not under any type of manual spam etc. Then i begin think and i realized taht was exactly the time when i launched a few subdomains as sub parts of my site like coding.designzzz.com , wordpress.designzzz.com , photograph.designzzz.com , shop.designzzz.com in the making... now is the part that i can't undo these subdomains.. what should i do ? my search traffic is almost killed.     Hey Gang, Finally joined the big boys here, excited to see what we all can do together. Here is my situation.  I have been struggling since panda 1.0 on a particular site at www.burnworld.com. Over 2011 we figured out what the issues were with the content and went on a major cleanup. This seemed to help towards the end of the 2011. However further panda updates this year mainly April have again struck. This was after adding a wordpress blog to the site late 2011, so it was a mix of a traditional html site and a wordpress blog.  Thinking that this could be an issue in May this year we transferred all the content over to wordpress only. We did keep the same linking strucutre using a permallink plugin to set specific url's. Forward to Panda 20. This wiped out all rankings and then we could not even rank for our own content.  One site that syndicates our content is now ranking for our content instead of us, and many 'feed' sites that scrape out feeds also rank insead of us. Okay now to my original question.  2 weeks ago we pulled the plug and made the decision it may be best to start over on www.burnworld.net since the .net in the past was a blog on wordpress (which was shutdown earlier n 2012), but sat with about 5 pages of content until we did the 301. So today none of the pages are in the main index and I am wondering if doing the 301 might have been a mistake by pointing it to an existing site that never really ranked.  Would it have been best to start on a new domain? How long have others seen before google puts the pages back in the main index? Would like to figure out the best action to take to get back into google's good graces. I'll keep this page updated so others with this issue can hopefully have a resource to turn to. BTW- nothing has chaned with Binghoo, rankings are all the same and they have updated the domain change properly.

    I have been looking at the SEOmoz redirect guide for some advice but I can't seem to find the answer : http://www.seomoz.org/learn-seo/redirection I have lots of URLs from a previous version of a site that look like the following: sitename.com/-c-25.html?sort=2d&page=1 sitename.com/-c-25.html?sort=3a&page=1 etc etc. I want to write a redirect so whenever a URL with the terms "-c-25.html" is requested it redirects to a specified page, regardless of what comes after the question mark. These URLs were created by our previous ecommerce software. The 'c' is for category, and each page of the cateogry created a different URL. I want to do these so I can rediect all of these URLs to the appropraite new cateogry page in a single redirect. Thanks for any help.

    Hi, My site is throwing thousands of 302 redirect warnings on crawl for the add to cart process in my Wordpress/Jigshop online store.     Just wondering whether Mozzer's have a preference when marking up rich snippets. I have just added Opengraph as per a Whiteboard Friday presentation suggesting that Google will use the meta data as well as schema, mainly for purposes of socially sharing the website details, and I have also used Schema for marking up an address, telephone number, and email. Is this the right way to do things? What are your thoughts?

    Hi! I am using Wordpress, and when I click on my photos, they go to an attachment page that only shows the photo.  However, in my SeoMoz crawl results, these are showing up as duplicate content page.  Is it worth going back and changing all of my photos so they aren't clickable and therefore do not create a duplicate page?     Hi, when we had the old design, we were in google news but then when we upgraded our site, we had a major problem which forced us to have to redesign our site. Since then we have not been included in google news and we would like to get back in.     I am helping a small company. Lets say rodent removal is their service. But local SEO for rodent removal is very very competitive in my town and across America. Would a website/blog dedicated to highlighting rodent removers across America be good for my company? We have had nice success with wordpress.com blogs. Supposing I gave 6 other rodent removal companies a free guest post (always 300 words or more) or whatever to post on my blog. Of course, none of these companies would be in my market. Would that help my local SEO? I am thinking long term here?

    I use Seomoz tool and discover that my webpage have 1000 duplicate title, my keyword with domain key 's position is 25, but i dont have any keyword ontop 100 of google. Is the Duplicate title effect in the key word position or SEO ? right?

    technical SEO question - If we take down a site and use the same domain but just redesign the whole site. I guess sometimes in this case Google still keeps indexing old pages though they do not exist now! What the solution for this? Google suggests redirect them to a 404 page but in this case as its same domain- Is it possible that we throw 404 errors and redirect them to 404 page and this 404 page exists in the new site itself (but of course we don't have link our menu to this 404 page) (if that makes sense)? Would appreciate if you can suggest or add anything to above topic.

    One of the campaign tools flags one of my clients sites as having lots of duplicates. This is true in the sense the content is sort of boiler plate but with the different countries wording changed. The is same with the urls but they are different in the sense a couple of words have changed in the url`s. So its not the case of a cms or server issue as this seomoz advises. It doesnt need 301`s! Thing is in the niche, freight, transport operators, shipping, I can see many other sites doing the same thing and those sites have lots of similar pages ranking very well. In fact one site has over 300 keywords ranked on page 1-2, but it is a large site with an 12yo domain, which clearly helps. Of course having every page content unique is important, however, i suppose it is better than copy n paste from other sites. So its unique in that sense. Im hoping to convince the site owner to change the content over time for every country. A long process. My biggest problem for understanding duplication issues is that every tabloid or broadsheet media website would be canned from google as quite often they scrape Reuters or re-publish standard press releases on their sites as newsworthy content. So i have great doubt that there is a penalty for it. You only have to look and you can see media sites duplication everywhere, everyday, but they get ranked. I just think that google dont rank the worst cases of spammy duplication. They still index though I notice. So considering the business niche has very much the same content layout replicated content, which rank well, is this duplicate flag such a great worry? Many businesses sell the same service to many locations and its virtually impossible to re write the services in a dozen or so different ways.

    Hey guys I'm Nikolas a newb, just signed up to the pro membership trial after alot of digging on the seomoz blog for months . First off let me tell you alittle about my story and seo knowledge. I started off online on the well known squidoo site with revenue sharing, because of my day job I had alot of time to work on my articles and build up to a nice monthly salary of just over 1k in less than 5 months which doubled and trippled in the last few months. Seo is like a 6th sense to me , onpage offpage and the lots. Most of what I read here is not new to me or something I didn't already know about, but its good to freshen up and remember things, as theres alot to search engine optimization. I have built up to over 500k unique visitors in less than a year and have decided to move on to my own site 4 months ago. The niche is the exact same one I have targeted on squidoo. My site had alot of issues at the start the classic 301 redirection ht_access fix I had to do,content management system building low quality content pages via tags that i have fixed(noindex) and removed with 404s, build up original unique valuable posts, interlink ,onpage and offpage seo the basics I did for squidoo. The problem here is that I can't seem to get any traction from google where as my squidoo search engine traffic is 80% , my sites google traffic is 5-10%. I have the same number of articles on both sites, similar topics , similar onpage offpage optimisation basically identical but have alot better content on my new site. My bing, yahoo and referral traffic is rising everyday but as I know google is 85% of the market share I am leaving alot of money on the table. I hope that most of you more dedicated seo's can give me a tip or two and explain exactly what is going on with my situation and if possible take a look at my site hardwarepal .

    Sorry if this question is really obvious (or unanswerable) but my client asked me for an explanation and as a relative SEO 'noob' I couldn't really answer them. The client's site http://www.solentlep.org.uk/ dropped 29 places for the keyword LEP last week (all the other keywords had small rises and falls) and then this week has jumped back up the same 29 places. I made no changes to the site in the 7 period (as I hadn't worked out what to change) and although everything is fine now I'd still like to let the client know what caused the blip, or is it one of those things that 'nobody knows'.
