I have been researching SEO companies. Some are not willing to provide references, while others have references with lukewarm recommendations. Any e-commerce owners/managers here that have used an SEO company that they would recommend? I am about to give up and stick to doing it in-house!

Are duplicate images a sign of low quality?

I look after a lot of small businesses that can not afford to get cutom made images for their sites, this made me think, If i was a search engine and saw a site with duplicate images, would i think that this site is of low quality? It is my guess that they would.

Google Pushed Out Panda Update 3.9 Last Night

Google said it was rolling out a Panda algorithm last night. New data refresh of Panda starts rolling out tonight. ~1% of search results change enough to notice. More context: goo.gl/huekfHas anyone been affected yet ....I seem to see a jump in some newer sites less than 3 months old already for some rankings - I don't like seeing rankings that quick!Do you see anything?

Convert Oganic ranking into Local Search Results

Hi, Right now, my website appears in top 5 results in organic SERPs, but I noticed that my business has gradually started going down, as my local results have been replaced by organic search results. Initially I used to rank in local results, but now, I appear in organic results so the no. of calls/day have decreased significantly. Displaying desired domain in search engines

Last year I registered a hosting and domain account for Mummyzboy.tv. Then we added Mummyzboy.com domain to the account. Then the client wanted the .com to be the main domain so we: Made the .com become primary domain for the hosting account. Changed the webmastertool account url to the .com Changed all .tv for .com in the sitemap and re-submit it. It's been a month now since the last mods and over a year the the primary domain was change but Google still displays Mummyzboy.tv in his results, any tips?

Two Industry giant has occupied the Google SE First Page.

I have seen just two websites on Google SE first page one with 4 and second one is with 6 internal pages on Coupon related question/niche . What it means Is this a Google Dance or temporary fluctuation. ? Why Google don't consider other sites to show on first page? Many pages from askvila.amazon, yahoo answers and facebook pages are shown on second and third pages.? Is this meant that there are a lack of quality websites/pages for this industry or query? LinkSmart Raises $4.7M to Dynamically Change Links

LinkSmart is a startup trying to put a new spin on link management by providing a platform to dynamically change links. They just raised $4.7M, and TechCrunch posted a quick blurb on them here that is worth reading. In short, the application will allow a site owner to change all of the text links on their site in real-time. The idea is that this will help improve click-through rates, optimize traffic, etc. How do you guys see this from an SEO perspective? It seems a bit scary from an indexing standpoint if links are never consistent. Also, the flow of link juice will be inconsistent. Any thoughts?

Where do i find Local SEO Clients?

Hey, So i've been doing SEO for a while now and know a lot of tactics and a lot of ways to get my/others sites hire. I know good software (and have that software with full licenses and know the methods to use it in whitehat ways that will work well), internal content linking, title/description, webmaster tools (both google and bing), sitemaps etc... I have clients and my own sites that i have managed to get high in google, as well as my own local site that is number 1 in Google for my hometown + SEO, but that only gets about 80 searches a month and gets me very little if any phone calls a week. I've also just ordered 250 high quality business cards, that i spent ages designing to look awesome.. If these work well i'll print some more and stick all over the place... I currently have 2 local clients, 1 is a local web agency who every client they have they pay me a specific amount to boost that company in Google and the other is just a family friend who pays me a small amount a month to build links for him. I'd like to have 10-15+ clients all on my payroll with a nice amount of income that i can live off. I just finished full-time school and am just coming into the big wide world and have for paid for my new laptop, desktop, 2 monitors, SEO software licenses and SEOMoz account from niche blogs, software and SEO coaching and such.. I've built a brilliant online portfolio for people and have had a lot of great feedback from online clients. But i can only earn around $10-$110 per online client for SEO and around $8/hour for coaching... I'd like to be able to make that a LOT more. I do web/graphic design as well and have built a nice portfolio for that as well. So back to the main question, how did you and how do i get local clients? Thanks!

Is it OK to discuss SEO for an adult site?

As I understand it, Panda 3.3 was a relatively minor refinement to the general Panda process. We have a site that was absolutely nuked on or about the same time as the Panda 3.3 update. Problem with SOME Indian based SEO companies, HELP!

First of all I want to say that I hire 2 great Indian SEOs at my company and this question is in no way meant to offend, or single anyone out. However It's come to a point where the amount of emails we receive for "Ethical SEO, High PR Guaranteed Link building Services, SEO professionals etc" from Indian based companies is costing us a lot of time on a daily basis to filter out spam from real enquiries. Blocking their emails is not even working as they use gmail accounts and multiple domain emails so we can't keep up with them. I have even spoken to some of the owners of these 'companies' and they admit using different email accounts so as not to be blacklisted. They also seem to believe that the opt-out option (which is legally required when sending out promotional emails) is itself optional!!!!! Now when I asked how exactly they were getting my email they said that they get info from the, and I quote "first page of Google"!!!!! So my question is the following; is there anyway I can block my site from showing up in a particular country altogether? Again this is in no way attacking ALL Indian based SEO companies, my beef is with the 74 (we counted) different 'companies' that are flooding our email with offers P.S. Is anyone else having these issues?

EMD question. How far can you push it?

A site targeting "orange juice" and "apple juice" as keywords is the example I'm going to use. Would you have any EMD related benefit if the domain was appleorangejuice.com for either of those keywords or both? To elaborate, this is NOT a question about how users would respond to such a domain. I think we can all agree that having the domain orangejuice.com would make ranking for that term easier and the same with applejuice.com. Is there any benefit then in using appleorangejuice.com with regards to optimizing for Both keywords or only 1? and which do you think would get the bigger benefit; apple juice or orange juice since the latter appears in sequence? I also feel the need to mention that this question arose from the fact that one of our clients insists that having the keyword in his domain will make his life a lot easier but the EMD for that phrase is not available so we're looking for different domains that are not mind numbingly obvious in their attempt to get ranked quickly.

SEO Agency Sabotage?

Here's a strange one ... We have a customer that has done remarkably well with organic SEO for the better part of 8 years. We've made them tons of money with our SEO techniques. About a year ago they started to get calls from a certain SEO firm warning that they were losing landing pages and keywords by the hundreds each month. Revenue continued to rise so they did not think much of it. Either did we. My customer finally relented and hired them for some limited SEO activites in Jan/Feb of this year - unbeknownst to me. The "other company" assembled some stats to demonstrate the drop in organic rankings, landing pages, keywords, and traffic going back about year. This data was matched to correlate with variuos Google updates and designed to scare the customer. Long story short and my question - has anyone ever heard of an SEO company sabotaging a potential customer so they would hire them? We ran analysis and turns out our customer actually gained landing pages and keywords while this company was calling on them and claiming impending doom. Turns out, since my customer brought them on, the numbers have gone way south. Now, we look like the incompetent boobs and they will likely "fix something" to look like rock stars. They claimed that the Penguin update is what killed the site, but the slippage started before Penguin, huh? It would make sense to call on a prospect for a while, warn of bad stuff about to happen, make something bad happen and then say, "I told you so, hire me". Has anyone ever hear of this? If so, any particular tactic I should look for?

Where is my time best spent ?

Greetings, I am a new aspiring SEO for a niche market company I helped create. Both the company and website launched in 2007. From 2007 till mid March 2012, the website was amateur hour with no SEO whatsoever. I have spent years building social media profiles. In doing so I have built quite an online presence and created brand awareness. Therefore our domain has some authority and some inbound links. Since I started my first campaign on SEOMoz my organic search traffic has gone from around 0-5 hits to 35-50 hits a day in around 4 weeks. I have been submitting to directories that are targeted toward our niche market. I have contributed to community forum posts as well as talking to blog authors to write about our company and products, none of which seem to have any impact on our page or domain authority. If I am already ranking for 50% of my targeted keywords in one of the most competitive markets there is, with only very few links compared to my competition, would my time be best spent starting to work on inbound marketing strategies/link building (to build my domain and page authority) as opposed to outbound marketing, content building and UX? I know all is necessary, but the company really needs to start making some ROI. (So my position as a SEO doesn't get shelved and I can continue using tools like SEOMoz.) There are still some UX details we need to improve on the site (e.g., there are only product descriptions on half of our products on the new version of the site) but the product pages or categories the search traffic is landing on are all described (mostly) 😕 I guess my question to the community is, if you were in my shoes (the only person in the company who is somewhat savvy to any of this), on what would you focus your time? What might cause SERPs differ from country to country ?

"Links To Your Site" In Webmaster Tools

How often does Google update the "links to your site" data. It seems that it has been static for about a month now even though we have made a lot of changes Does anyone have any idea? If you have made changes to your links (i.e removed links, updated anchor text, etc.), do you have to wait for this information to be updated to measure the impact? Or is that whenever Google crawls those pages/sites and sees changes there is a adjustment. Thanks

Why is Bing Showing Insurance Ads For Link Building Searches?

I keep seeing multiple (2-3 per search) car insurance ads when I search for "link building" on Bing. I made a blog post that shows a screenshot and has more details. I'm not aware of any retargeting or other targeting options Bing offers that would show nonrelevant ads on a search like this. Or is there such a feature that I don't know about? My best theories are that it is a bug, or that Bing is testing something new. Any ideas?

Outranking the big boys, how to protect position?

Hi We're an affiliate travel site, and not only are we outranking the site who provides the rates, we're also outranking some of the very big travel companies that provide rates to them. Of course, that's great. But it's also worrying, following the advice of SEOMOZ to the letter we've managed to acheive great ranking for product names and even cities/place, we've got 100% unique content (the affiliate site offer XML but we haven't taken it) with our own pictures, reviews and videos, but is this going to be enough? I'm concerned that, outrank these bigger companies on enough keywords and they will either a) complain to google or b) stop providing us with rates. What steps should I take in this situation? I feel it is our "competitors" job to up their game, rather than for us to try to sail under the radar, but unfortunately and I've been involved in SEO where this has happened before, if you start to rank well, they'd rather pull the plug on you than up their game. Is there any advice out there on this type of thing, how I can at least stay in Google's good books if a competitor does decide we don't "deserve" our ranking?

Google Adwords Keyword Tool is showing different data for the same keywords. Broad Match Local Search Volume is 2400 apiece logged in from my main account. Local Search Volume 3600 and 1900 logged in from a different account. Can anybody explain this? I have screenshot of both.

Best way to recruit quality SEO staff?

We are in a nice position in that we are growing everyday. As the result, we need more staff, but do not have the time to bring along someone without any real SEO background. I have used just about every source over the years to hire people with good and bad result.
For an SEO, with experience in some or all of the process: Link building, Keyword Analysis Site evaluation, eCommerce, Analytics... where do you go to find someone good? What about to find them yesterday? 😉 Obviously, they do not have to be expert at all, but they need to be familiar with all and have experience in at least two or three.

Help ranking for a keyword

So I found a keyword that is labeled as "Low Competive" on Google Adwords. About a week and a half ago I optimized the page using the SEOMOZ On-Page optimization tool. It says that I am 100% with everything. My website is new but it has been around for about a year. I haven't gotten into linking and the more in depth SEO. After doing some searches though I noticed a lot of other new website that are atleast ranking in the top 50 for certain keywords, so I figured I could get my page to rank atleast in the top 1000 for this "Low Competitive" keyword. Could someone take a look and see if maybe I over optimized it or did something that would make this keyword not rank even in the top 1000 on google? Any advise is appreciated. I am obviously very new to SEO, but I am someone that likes to do and learn everything for myself. Thanks in advance! Secondshells.com has $3k a month to spend on SEO & marketing. HOW should I spend it & with whom?

We have a Magento based ecommerce site www.secondshells.com and are looking for ways to improve traffic. Our goal is to drive sales of our products. Google Search Quality Team - Commission Based Reviews

I have been busy this past week writing articles for various sources about the recent update on Google. A number of people contacted me about the analysis I was doing and the report. Some were members of the Google Search Quality Team. I knew manual reports were done before - but after the documents they showed me regarding the reports they do and the compensation for doing the reports - I am left in a state of being pretty shocked. May be I have been naive for all these years but I didn't realize that; Google outsourced the review and reconsideration requests to individual reviewers for a compensation Google's position in terms of checking qualification and experience of these "reviewers" was very insufficient at best, The three contacts I spoke to who had done reports had very little training or experience. I went through the GSQT REVIEWERS PDF (a very long and thorough document) that I was sent - with them. We went together through some sites I wanted them to review and their comments that came back were quite astounding to say the least and would have made many of you Mozzers laugh. Obviously I don't want to post said document online here.... BUT, I wanted to know if: a) any Mozzers had ever been part of such a group - the GSQT b) had any dealings with them - in terms of having your website reviewed and known about it. I knew about this group way back - like in 2005 or 2006 or sometime around then - I was told at time it was stopped and Google had stopped paying these sub contractor reviewers. Please don't get me wrong here... totally on board with manual reviews... I would just prefer them done by a trained team that possibly worked for either a professional company that maintain high quality review testing and standards - or for that matter GOOGLE employees that were trained. I just am a little unsure of them being done by individual subbies that get paid for the amount they do. What if that subbie has got some skin in the game for a particular keyword? What if their knowledge about certain aspects isn't up to par or not tested on a regular basis. This space is always changing and as you guys ./ girls on this forum know - it can change pretty quick. I just would want all websites to be judged fairly and equally by a group trained EQUALLY and to the same standards. I don't care if this is a G team or not - I just want it to be a team that is trained equally and trained continuously as opposed to paying outside people based on numbers of reviews done. When the livelihood of a small business is the balance I don't want a commission hungry toe rag with one years experience being the gate keeper for me or any of our clients. Carlos

What are some good organizations an SEO company can join that are strong trust signals?

We are working on a website redesign, and want to prominently include some trust signals that help people feel comfortable with us. We're including logos of a few places we've guest posted, and also the BBB and local chamber of commerce. Do you have any other ideas on logos we can include that are good trust signals? How good is Guest post after Penguin Update ?

Hello 🙂 , You agree or not but 90% of guest posting is done for Link Building, we have seen several blogs on SEOMoz or more trusted SEO Sites that talk about Guest blogging. Everyone recommends guest posts with good content (Unique ofcourse) , valued content & linking to related websites. I have been doing Guest posting for many of my clients but from last 2 months, we got good success too (That is most of our content was approved) . Our writers did great job writing quality content, authoritative subject, providing do's & don'ts, tips, pros - cons etc. Though I have been trying to link to our direct URL instead of anchor text, or long words or name of our business not our main kws, just to be on safe side from Google. Sites where we posted guest post were minimum home page rank of 2 & seomoz's domain authority 30+ , so we know that our guest posts are not on junk sites or blogs. To be honest we have received around 35 guest blogs in one month (All unique content, never spun) linked on above topics, anchor links like I said above - other than that we have not done too fancy for link building, we paid attention to our social media, brand building, inbound marketing recommended by rand fishkin http://goo.gl/64VB5 & we never participated to buy link, buy guest post, buy any likes on fb etc... Still our ranks are not improved actually our ranks has dragged back, we have been doing SEO from last 4 yrs but we never did black hat, our website content is 10 times better than websites in front of us, our titles are unique and advice to human, but our competitors ahead in ranks talk to engines. Our website is up & running from 1993. That is too old and our service is top class. We used to rank well in most competitive words for yrs but new websites came in and started to outrank us. Now situation is this that - websites ahead of us are brands or microsites. I understand Google favors brands but that doesn't mean we are doing anything against Google. We have been practicing guest blogs from yrs but frequency was less. Now question is - Is Guest post worth, bz it is for link (ofcourse with good content) and Google say don't work for link. This is big dilemma We make good content and we need credit for that and link is credit which everyone wants. After penguin update things has started more worse than before. So modified question is - Is guest post worth after penguin update ? Whingers and Winners

I remember this forum was full of people whinging about being out ranked by spammy websites with cheap links.
Now I see people with spammy websites and cheap links whinging they have lost rankings.
Those who were the wingers are now the winners and those that were winning are now whinging.
Every dog has his day
There was a time where you could beat the system, those days have long gone, for long term results its not a matter of beating the search engines, but making sure you have not made any mistakes, that you are free from errors, you have prefect crawlability, good content and quality links.

Google Webspam Algo Update 24/4/12

Having just checked our clients rankings 95% have not been affected, in fact many have moved up rankings. 1 or 2 have had big drops 😞 Who has been effected by this? The forums are full of people talking about sites being floored from the serp's. it will be interesting to follow the aftermath of this and get some insight into what exactly has changed!
