    Has any of you used the postrunner guest posting platform? I cant seem to find a recent review of the tool (Some seems to be from affiliates). After all the penguin update, does it makes sense to go with using postrunner (considering it's paid) for placing guest post on other blogs for link building?

    My blog was hit by Google Panda on July 21. My rankings dropped dramatically overnight. Nothing I do is helping. In fact, the day my guest post was published on one of the biggest blogs in my niche (DA over 70) my Google impressions dropped to an all time low and then got worse. (250 impressions and 12 clicks) You can see the first drop and the second drop in these screenshots and yes Google Webmasters and Google Analytics match. http://tinypic.com/r/2dvtvlj/5 http://tinypic.com/r/4u83t4/5 I am getting more fans, subscribers, traffic etc but my Google traffic just gets worse. I would really like to get some organic traffic! But I have no idea why this is happening. I checked manual actions and there is nothing. I cleaned up crawl errors and duplicate content. I get several backlinks a week within my niche from high authority sites. I just don't get it and I am very discouraged. What should I do?

    My SEO agency are suggesting that they will build a Link network from scratch by buying domains and building blog sites on them. All sites that link to my site would in theory be 'clean' and as we build up their authority we increase the value of the links to my site. One of the upsides is taht we would have complete control of all the links. This does sound a bit spammy but in theory could it work?
    Any input is much appreciated. Regards John

    Hi everyone, I'm formulating a content idea to provide the Internet's most comprehensive guide for our related field and wanted to know how people would promote a guide if they were producing one. Really the topic of choice doesn't need to be mentioned, so I'll leave that out so answers are open and can help a range of people attempting to do a similar thing. One of the goals is to of course produce more unique and useful content for our site (helping our ranking), which will help people out who have an interest or question related to our topic, but once the content is on the site, how would you go about getting links towards to guide? Would you contact websites that have written about similar content in the past and ask if they would add a link to the guide in their already existing content? Or would you ask them to bear it in mind for reference purposes in future content? Would you visit guest posting? Obviously one of the goals of the content is for links, and that will be the driver behind whether or not the content is produced. I firstly need to show that there are potential links we can gain almost immediately after the content is ready. From there, I'm hoping the content will promote itself, with people referencing the content on forums and articles when questions are raised. However, for the content to get in front of the influencers (those who would answers the questions on forums or write articles about the subject) the content needs to be visible - i.e rank or be mentioned from a highly visible source. Any ideas or comments from people who have promoted guides successfully before will be extremely welcome. Note: This is more the promoting of content and not really related to the research to find out which content to produce. Thanks.

    I am looking for a way to share my content in multiple locations to build back links without having to upload one at a time per location. For example- if i write an article and i upload it to ezine articles and then post it over on my blog- it will then post over on my twitter and facebook and linked in. However- how i can also get this article with back links into shared sites, bookmark sites, and other locations online to help build my inbound marketing for back links. I'm trying to find a way to save time while building out the links.

    Hi guys, Our website has an eBay widget which lots of eBay users put on their listings. We are thinking of using that as a way to get links from eBay listings. However, since most eBay listings will disappear after 90 days, is this worth doing and also will Google count those links? Many thanks David

    I've been using the Moz tools for a while now and love them. Our SEO efforts are certainly paying off as we're ranking well for a lot of our desired keywords. That being said, I'm finding link building to be a very frustrating process. As much as I like to be hands on and try to do everything, I'm wondering when it's time to "throw in the towel" and hire someone? Is there anyone else who might have gone through a similar evolution? I'd love to hear some other stories about how or why you decided to hire out your link building. I'd like to think that whatever we spend on link building could likely reduce our reliance on AdWords, although I'm not sure how this would really play out over time.

    OK, so here goes.  We have an odd situation on our hands.  Our website sells a product technically known as "nail polish strips".  We are a small player at the moment, but the reviews we've gotten in "side-by-side" comparisons vs. the big boys have been crazy, and literally always in our favor. Now the issue..... The best way to describe our product as mentioned above is they are Nail Polish Strips.  Our domain name includes the term "Nail Strips" in it.  Of the 200+ bloggers that have done reviews and provided us links, about 80% or so have linked to the home page, most just using our websites name, some have been nice enough to actually use keyword terms like nail polish strips. Moral of the story, for the term nail polish strips, our link profile would indicate to the google machine that our home page is stronger for this term. THE BIG ISSUE HOWEVER...... Our main category on the site that shows products is the page we originally intended to optimize for the term Nail Polish Strips.  And our aim was going to be to optimize our home page for something else, like maybe plain old Nail Strips. THE BIGGER ISSUE...... At any given moment, Google is having a hard time figuring it out.  Based on our link profile, we should be on page one, but what we're seeing is today, it's our Nail Polish Strips category page that ranks for that term, and tomorrow that listing will be replaced with our home page.  Literally, last night the home page was on the top of page two, and today, the category page is on the middle of page two.  They keep flip flopping.  Sometimes they both appear within the first 3 pages, sometimes only one appears on page two, the other drops out of the top 10 pages. OUR THINKING IS....... Our home page obviously has more strength and if the google machine is even implying they like it for that term, we might as well accommodate that.  Keyword spy shows this term has a volume of around 18,000 searches.  The term isn't hugely competitive, so we planned to 301-redirect the current category page URL that is competing with the home page, to the home page, and re-create and optimize the category page for something different, like Nail Polish Stickers or something to that effect. THE FINAL ISSUE....... The term stickers in this industry as it relates to our product has been the victim of a negative PR campaign because the big boys (or girls) are trying to say "Nail Stickers" are garbage as opposed to "Nail Polish Strips".  The problem is Nail Stickers gets a lot more traffic.  So we figured, we'd optimize the category page for Nail Polish Stickers, and explain in the text, that despite what some of our competitors say, just because we're using the word "stickers" to describe them, doesn't mean they are bad, so on and so forth.  I ONLY MENTION THIS SO YOU SEE WHY I'M HESITANT TO PULL THE TRIGGER ON OUR ABOVE FIX. I know this is long, and I'm not doing a great job of putting it in to words, but any insight will help.  I'm supposed to pull the trigger today or tomorrow on this re-direct and new strategy, but don't want to do so until I get some of my fellow ninja's opinions.

    Google WMT says I have over 33,000 backlinks from Yahoo.net, linking to 4 different pages on my site. I am not sure if these are nofollow or not, but I would assume they are. It also says I have almost 4,000 links from feedblitz. Should I be concerned or do something about either of these two things? I am pretty unfamiliar with RSS feeds.

    We have a site which is going to deliver content to a big news site and in return we will receive a lot of traffic from the news site. Estimates are that it will be about 50% of our daily traffic. Before this we have about 2000 daily visits, where 50% is from organic traffic. How will this affect our rankings? (It should be pretty obvious to Google that an increase like that in reffered traffic is bought - which I assume will ahve a negative impact on our organic rankings) What is the best tactic to use - regarding SEO - if (when) we proceed to deliver content/recieve traffic from that news site? (we have a lot of decent rankings on several branch keywords, and we don't want to risk those rankings. On the other hand - if we could improve our rankings from this deal - we would like inputs to that as well? Best regards, Chris

    I've had a good read on this one and just wondered whether the info on the below link is still valid 3 years on: http://www.seomoz.org/blog/understanding-root-domains-subdomains-vs-subfolders-microsites My main site is a forum but I want to add further content in the form of a blog.  It seems logical to me that domain.com/blog/ would make more sense than blog.domain.com as the the content and inbound links to the blog would also help the forum where it's on the same subdomain, however I just wanted to make sure that was still the case as I've also read that Google now see a subdomain and subfolder in the same way if set up correctly in webmaster tools and this solution would look neater if that was the case. How often does MOZ refresh external links.     Ok i have been reading and reading on seo, and been using ahrefs tool to really understand the problem my site is having. if possible some help would be great please so some of the issues and questions. My website is ppp.net.nz and i have been using ahrefs to analyse. 1 - for both backlinks and domains, there has been a significant loss. what does this mean. are they the bad ones, temporary ones? shoudl i be glad im loosing stuff since they might be the ones i dont want? over the last few days it has been leveling out so is that a good sign? 2 - looking at achors text, the majority is for hawkes bay weddig photography. i know this is not right and i need to work on this to make more anchor text about ppp.net.nz, picture perfect photography, etc. is that right? 3- staying with anchor text, i noticed i have lots of anchor texts with terms that are not completely related to mine. this is very worrying. does that mean other people are linking to my site, or has someone hacked into my account, or someone is doing this to hurt my profile? my website is a WP site. i assume it is imperative that i remove all these bad backlinks, even though they are smaller amount. but then they do add up to quite  a big chunk. 4- staying with point 3, i checked the backlinks and i do get around 6-10 a days with weird text. i assume backlinks mean links to are going to places and linking back to me? but can this also mean other people just linking to me directly? if so, can this be done via the comments in Wordpress? 5- i have asked people to do SEO for me before, and being ignorant back then, i was happy to see lots of backlinks but i understand now they would hurt me. Now for me to remove them, i know i have to contact the webmasters. But can I contact the person that I hired and get them to remove from our end, instead of from the webmasters' end? Thank you for your help. i try to read and analyse as much as i can. and im glad i found these problems. However, some sound advice would be great please as I honestly dont know how to trust SEO companies. Binh

    This is my first post in the Moz Community and I have to say, it looks like an amazing place to learn - I am excited to be here. My question is this. I have a client who would like to optimize his local business website so that is shows up in several different cities. For example, he has an office in Ottawa, London and Woodstock.  What would the best way to complete the on-page optimization so that Google knows this site is relevant for his service in any of these cities? Is it just a matter of including each of these terms in the title, content and headings? Should I create additional website for each location? Create a resource page for each city on the main site?     Iv recently been conducting a link analysis on one of my sites, I downloaded the list from web master tools, but iv noticed a number of links coming from a search engine websites. At a glance there are maybe 10-15 links from these search engine sites each with a slightly different domain name (e.g: 10search.com, 20search.com, 30search.com etc.) but the same design, same logos and similar results. What effect would these links have? and should I remove them? Thank you in advance

    I know people have mixed feelings towards submitting their sites to directories, but this one really seemed special, so I decided to share the opportunity with the Moz community, as well as open up a discussion on the value of being a part of this directory (and similar ones.) We recently submitted our site to Dial a Human (www.dialahuman.com) It is a directory of companies' phone numbers, which go directly to a person (bypassing the machines.) I think this directory actually does provide users with value, and is far from your typical link farm. The Page Authority is 56 and the Domain Authority is 47, and it is a PR5 site. The other companies listed are all extremely reputable (most of them are fortune 500 companies.) The fee to join is $75-$150, but to be included with this group of companies, we felt it was very worthwhile. We would join this type of directory over and over again.  Would you? If you have any other directories which are of the same caliber please share!

    Hi all, I created a website www.bruadair.com approximately 2 months ago, the website is for a luxury villa. Prior to creating this site the villa website was www.bruadair.co.uk , this website had been live for around 4 years. Now after developing the site and creating optimised content etc, I started my link building strategy to try and increase both the page and domain authority of the site. I used MOZ's open site explorer tool to examine my site and compared it with the old domain (www.bruadair.co.uk), this is was where my question arose. The old site has a domain authority of 16/100 and the home page has a page authority of 26/100. The old domain also had 468 inbound links ( the quality of these are most likely questionable, nofollows etc ). The new site in comparison has 1/100 domain authority and 1/100 page authority with no apparent inbound links. Before I noticed this I had generated a few inbound links to the new site, but Moz had not indexed websites since I had done this therefore it probably wouldn't have shown it in the open site explorer. Basically I have cloned the new site to the old web address and am thinking of using the .co.uk version just due to its existing domain and page authority. Would it be beneficial to swap over to the old site to benefit from the domain authority?? Thanks for any help given! 🙂

    Hello fellow MOZzers..! I am fairly new to this community but have been working on my SEO skills for a while.. I have created over 20 websites for myself and various clients, and all of them are doing fairly well ranking n.1 for their targeted keywords... except 1 WEBSITE THAT IS BECOMING A ROYAL PAIN IN THE BUTT! The website is www.dancepartycentral.co.uk and this is why it's a mystery to me: The on-site SEO seems to be on point (getting an A on page-grader for desired keywords) "Dance Party" does not seem to be too much of a competitive keyword Many of the other competitors do not seem to have very professional websites (apart from 3 or 4) or that have as much targeted content for the relevant keywords I have over relevant 20 sites and industry directories for Entertainers that are linking to the site (even though not all of them are appearing on page crawls) Please keep in mind this site has been created using webs.com so I have little control over the coding I seem to only be getting a 6.5% TXT/HTML ratio even though the site is made up mostly of original content This business highly relies on organic SEO searches and as my site is not ranking in the top 50, it's become a bit of a head-scratcher for me.. if anyone is kind enough to help me shed some light on the problem and how I can resolve this, I would be eternally grateful! Now, We have discovered that we have imbound links pointing the spam content from external spam and untrusted sites. Could be this affect our ranking? In this case...     We have been lucky to have some great coverage and resultant backlinks on some very high domain authority news sites such as The Times in the UK. Now that a lot of their content (including our articles and backlinks) is now gated because they are a subscription based, does: Google site attribute the same domain authority to the subscription sites? Does Google site crawl this content? Does the same Google Juice flow once the site is gated? Is the value of 'paid for content sites' eroded?

    This question has to do with using Google's Disavow Links Tool. For sites having quite a few subdomains, where those subdomains are listed separately in Google's Webmaster Tools, do I have to upload a separate disavow file for each subdomain? Or, will the file that I upload for the main domain (root domain), also be evaluated by Google for all of the subdomains on that site? I've searched all over the Internet for an answer to this question, but can't find anything.

    A company I am working with has been posting pictures and links to their website in the comments section of Houzz articles. I notice many companies have been doing this in general. While it generates decent amounts of traffic, I am wondering if google sees 30 links coming from article comments that it will deem that as spam? My gut tells me to send these comment links to the Houzz member profile, then direct them to your own website. Thoughts? ***Anyone in home design, decor, etc. should really get involved there. Fantastic source of business for professional in that field.

    I work for an e-commerce website and we have written a super helpful eBook about one of the kinds of products we sell. The original idea was to offer it on the main page that we direct people to when they're shopping for this product, but it occurred to me that it might be better for link building and less cluttered if it has its own page. But we are concerned that link building to a separate page will not help with SEO for the main product page, which was the original goal. What should we do? Pros/cons?

Should you have an individual page on your site for each main key phrase you want to target or should you target several phrases for each page e.g. Target 3 phrases per page.     Hi everyone, I am new to Moz and here is my first question. I have just launched a website that took me a year to develop and I am in search for great links, following Moz advices. However, theory and practice are certainly two different things... Although my site is not about stock exchange markets, it does contain an area related to the subject. My goal is to attract links towards my main topic via that area. I have found that website: zonebourse.com (I am working on the French market)
    According to the Moz tools, page authority and domain authority are really good. Also, I believe I can do a very link on my side. However, should I contact them ? They have an area in the footer for link building, but it doesn't look to me as "quality work" I have been looking for contextual links, but can't find any My question is should I try to earn that link, considering that according to Moz guidelines, it may not be a quality link, but looking at the harsh reality, for such a "good" partner, it could be it or nothing? It would be great to hear a few opinions from the Moz community. Many thanks !

    I received an invite from a company to enter a contest for a chance to win a prize.  The contest is run by Rafflecopter.  Rafflecopter looks interesting because you can place the contest anywhere including social sites and your own website.  Contestants can increase the chances of winning in various ways such as an FB like, tweet, etc.  The largest number of points (for this particular contest) are awarded for linking from your website to their website.  Given that the contestant must add the link to their website and the sponsoring company can not control whether they use nofollow, couldn't this contest approach to link building cause problems for SEO?  If the contest included instructions to copy and paste the html with a nofollow, that would seem like a better solution, but the only guidance given was to link to their home page. Your thoughts? Best,

    Recently a guy asked at GoogleWebmasterHelp: Should I be worried if a couple of sites that I don't want to be associated with are linking to me? In this case there have been 2 porn sites linking to his site... that clear.
    But my question is if for example sites like e.g. : http://www.linguee.de Linguee is one of the best dictionary sites where you can search for phrases and receive common translation examples which are very helpful. Liguee set some links to my site because they take texts usually from multilingual sites to gather examples.
    A dictionary site does not have nothing to do with my business but also I don't consider that this might my harm my site? What do you think?

    several people have suggested that i try guest blogging as a way to improve my site's position but i am wondering how do i go about finding the right blogs to contribute to? for example, my clients are usually dentists. how do i know what would be a good blog to write to for that industry? also, how do i link back to the site, in the content or the signature?

    Trying to clear up a manual link penalty a client has received and I have found the client's site has been blog commenting 14,000 times on just one domain!! I need to do a reconsideration request and show Google that I have cleaned up the mess (the client has 50k backlinks, of which I am not happy with about 75% so far!!) but I cannot expect the website in question to go through 14k pages. What would people advise here. Would you state the sheer number of links on this site in the reconsideration request and use the disavow tool? Doesn't this suggest that I have been lazy and not put the effort into to clearing things up up
