  • I realize this is a far cry from BuildMyRank.  But say this partially hypothetical groupl is a business chamber of commerce group.  30 businesses with modest sites (few links).  They do their best to consistently exchange links back and forth.  Nothing to abusive and some relevancy with respect to anchor links (lawyer give the accountant a plug when discussing minimizing taxes on his blog). Are these "little guys" heading for trouble?  If not, when do you cross the line and face BuildMyRank type issues?

  • I have a client who has a few articles written about her and posted on different news-related sites. She has asked me to capture these articles (we have permission) and create a section on her site for them. My question is this... From an SEO standpoint, would it be better to link _to the _articles, post them on her site or both? Or, maybe there's an even better way I'm not thinking of. Your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Kirk

  • my site just received this warning on 3/18.  I haven't seen any rankings drop or anything... i don't know why i got this as i really don't build links in a frowned upon way. Anyone know if you get penalized for this, and if so, how long after you get the message does the penalty kick in, and what is the penalty.... Also, if i gave you guys my domain name do you think you'd be able to tell which links would cause this message? thanks

  • We are thinking about authoring a number of articles for several newspapers around the country and hope that they will be published in both print and online editions. The purpose would be to gain a Wikipedia page about our business with established references.  Has anyone seen any positive effects by implementing this type of strategy?

  • How good is a link from a forum? Do you guys know of any forums in the shopping, jewelry, wedding, or fashion industry that accepts links within their signature or within the post? I know some forums are very strict about this and others allow you to add your link as an incentive to post on their forums. Generally, how effective is this in your opinion and any good recommendations of quality forums?

  • I'm going to give an example of the potential website I'm going to build. Lets say it's about the individual graduating classes of a certain high school. I want my targeted niche keyword phrase to bey "graduating classes of example high school". Graduating Class would be the broader keyword. I would have a home page, which is a blog of recent news covering all of the students who've attended example high school. From my home page, you're able to access individual pages: 2012 Graduating Class 2011 Graduating Class 2010 Graduating Class etc.... If I'm internally linking to all of these pages, won't I encounter keyword cannibalization? or is the link "2012 Graduating Class" unique enough?

  • Hi there, I was wondering if it's worth investing on buying blog reviews for me site, by using sites like buyblogreviews.com? I've been making sure the blog sites are relevant and has good rankings, and not too many outgoing links.  I also make sure they write about something interesting related to my site, that should get people's attention and gain more traffic. Any thoughts? Thanks.

  • hi.. I have purchased several domains which have had a lot of backlinks.. a lot of these backlinks are still active but mainly from pornsites.. do those backlinks affect the websites i links to from the domain? fx. lets say i have the domain abc.com which has a link from sex.com.. Now i want to link from abc.com to def.com - will the link from sex.com affect def.com in any way?

  • Suppose that you created a great infographic and the embed code included an exact match link. For example: This infographic was created by Shoestore, a leading provider of speed boosting shoes. If the infographic is embedded on 100 domains with an anchor text link (and say you previously had 100 linking domains) is there a risk of penalty for too many exact match links in a short period?

  • Based on what happened to JC Penny do you think there is a significant risk of penalties if you have an outside firm build links for your site? For example they could buy some links and get caught or engage in black hat tactics without our knowledge. Is there anything that can be done to minimize any such risk?

  • Suppose you hired a company that could write and publish an unlimited number of quality guest articles on relevant sites. How much would you be willing to pay for each guest post?

  • I have read a number of changes in Google (see:http://searchengineland.com/too-much-seo-google%E2%80%99s-working-on-an-%E2%80%9Cover-optimization%E2%80%9D-penalty-for-that-115627)
But as of late I am having some problems with my website, and I am curious if anyone of you are also experiencing the same.
The problem is this in SEO it is a SOP that you use your target keyword as your anchor text having the url as the landing page for the page you want to rank for.
But recently the pages I want to rank for specific keywords are going down instead Google is ranking my homepage for keywords I don't want to rank for.
So instead of having my target pages rank it is my homepage that gets shown in Google, now this is what is really interesting the keywords I rank for are not in the meta title, description, keywords of the homepage in fact there are no specific keywords at all in the content!
I checked the backlinks and I have never created any backlinks to my site using those keywords I rank for.
And this is happening at a very fast rate, rankings and pages going down and only the homepage is showing up in Google.
I really want to know your thoughts.

  • My website needs a lot of improvement and we are working on it but I also don't want to fall behind on the SEO work.  I am guessing that I can do much of it myself through SEOmoz.org but is there a part that busy folks should get others to do? Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Utah Tiger

  • Hypothetically, if your competitors in a niche have 100 linking domains from medium authority sites and you were able to publish guest posts on 200 relevant sites with medium authority, what do you think would happen? Would you dominate your competition?

  • I have some blogs that I own with 10,000+ indexed pages of content. I have wondered for sometime if adding anchor text links for my clients on relevant blogs would be helpful or harmful. I realize that having an anchor text link on ONE article page in context is better than 10,000 anchor text links on my blog roll or footer, but I have been reluctant to use this strategy due to the bad press site wide and blogroll links have gotten, What has been YOUR experience with this method?

  • As I search for external relevant links to our site, which would be the most important if I had to choose? **How would you rank the three levels as being most important to least important?  ** #1 Page Authority, Rank and Trust **#2 **Domain Authority, Rank and Trust. **#3 **Sub-domain Rank and Trust

  • Hi guys, I have just done a lot of link buillding and I thought I am just going to link build and I am not going to go after RELVANT links. I have  property/real esate website and I have been any kind of link builidng and I have noteced some good increases in rankings.. So my questions is; Does it really matter if the link is relvant to property or real estate if I have got ranking increases? Or will it later harm my site?? Thanks Gareth

  • It seems that real estate sites have at times been under heavier scrutiny from the search engines. But real estate agents get networking, which makes acquiring those links a little bit easier. Plus with localization of search, I think real estate sites may give off a good GEO scent. Should SEO's go for links from real estate websites? Does a reciprocal link devalue said links?

  • Is there an easy way, through passing variables in a URL, to track the links from a specific blog post? I am looking into using a query on the Google search that would return a list of the site that have been indexed that link using that specific query. Thanks!

  • Is there any SEO benefits from registering a previously expired domain name that is still linked to form an authorative source and 301 redirecting it to another site on a similar subject? Obviously first benefit is giving users who are clicking on the link to be sent to a site on a similar subject that just to a dead link.

  • Our youtube page was PR7 and passing on quite a bit of Pagerank to our site. I didn't think it turning nofollow would effect us much, but we've experienced a sitewide rankings drop on a newer ecommerce store. Anyone familiar with the youtube trick know of another good site for building Pagerank?

  • There is a very strong authority and ranking website that has links on it to some of our competitors websites and other companies. I used opensiteexplorer to check if these links were showing up as backlinks on competitors site but I was unable to find them. This 'powerful' page of links has been around for quite a while so I don't think time has anything to do with it. SEOmoz toolbar itself gives the particular page good rank, trust, and authority. Using this website (not sure it has any use) http://rapid.searchmetrics.com/en/  it finds the outbound links and domains. I was unable to find any nofollow or noindex things anywhere on the site.. Just looking at the site and it's links I would think it an ideal backlink target for my company. However using opensiteexplorer I am lead to believe this backlink is never being found? Any thoughts? Cheers

  • I have been slowly building links via personal/professional networking, press from art shows, blogging, and such. I work with several non related domains & local blogs & press outlets, it is pretty easy for me to add a few new pages of content along with text links. Or should I just concentrate on getting links from totally "new" domains that have never linked to me before?

  • Hello, I read about a practice (also suggested by EasyWP SEO plugin) whereby I should place on my current page (call it page A) an internal link to another page (call it page B) using as anchor text the keywords I want page A to rank for. I dont really understand this and it is a cause of great confusion in my head... Can someone explain this to me and why this would be good practice? I would have thought that having as anchor text to page B a keyword I want page A to rank well for would steal juice from page A and give it to page B? Or am I missing something else? Thanks !

  • Hi all, There's a lot of controversy around duplicated content. If you google "The New SEO Process (Quit Being Kanye)" you'll get tones of results with a copied content from the original article. How does google manages this? (duplicated or not) Is this good for the original content/website? Thank you Cornel

  • I operate a computer services company in Eugene, Oregon called "Eugene Computer Geeks".  We do a lot of web design, and need incoming links to my site very badly. Lately I've been asking clients if they would link to me, but they almost always ask for a link in return. If we exchange links, does Google penalize my site?  Would the incoming link be better for SEO if I'm not linking back to the other site? ALSO Is it possible that manually submitting my site to free, yet relevant web directories would hurt my rankings?  It's not a big deal to me if it doesn't help my rankings, as I see a benefit to having my site listed, but wanted to make sure there wasn't a chance that it would hurt my rankings. As far as I know all the directories are free from SPAM, porn, warez, or anything like that. Thanks!

  • About 3 years ago I acquired a sitewide sidebar backlink on very good site.  Today 3 years later my site has 27,080 backlinks from the same domain with the same anchor text and I am concerned this could be doing my site more harm than good. The site is good quality well indexed PR5, some inner pages also have good PR. My dilemmas are: Should I have the link removed or leave it put? Would taking down so many links in one go do me harm? My instinct would be to remove the sitewide and just keep the homepage link but that is not an option Can anyone help? Thanks

  • I couldn't find this elsewhere in Q&A...so here goes. I recently (a couple of months back) shelled out $300 for a Yahoo Directory listing. My site got included, but my PageRank didn't budge. Figuring it may take a while, I kept on checking Google's index for the link - still nothing. Now it seems as if some Yahoo & other directory categories are excluded from the Google Index, rendering the links useless from a PR point of view. Anything I can do about this? I've heard of suggestions like linking to the specific page of the category where I'm listed, in the hope Google will crawl and re-index, but I don't know. Any thoughts / suggestions? BTW the directory category link is: http://dir.yahoo.com/Business_and_Economy/Business_to_Business/Communications_and_Networking/Telecommunications/Wireless/Software. Thanks in advance...

  • Hello, I have a blog for one year now and in the overwall is going great. In all this time it was an awesome way to discovery some SEO mysterious and learn with experience wich in my point of view is the best way to do it. Now my observation is about links to other sites and what does that do. At the present I have about 35 keywords in the 3 first places in Google, bing e Yahoo. All good. I notice that the posts that I have links (dofolow) to other sites are performing better then those ones that only have internal-links. And Its curious that this change as starting to surface in Dezember of 2011. Now the confusion is about the SEOmoz observation towards external links. "You should avoid having too many (roughly defined as more than 100) hyperlinks on any given page. When search engine spiders crawl the Internet they are limited by technology resources and are only able to crawl a certain number of links per webpage. In addition, search engine algorithms divide the value of some popularity metrics by the amount of links on a given page." Now hell with this observation I say. Its working for me and for now on I will actually apply this SEO strategy when Im talking about a subject in a post:) What do you guys think? Whats your experince on this? Regards, Pedro M Pereira

  • I just paid someone to submit me to a few directories and I saw were I was listed on one of them today.  The url page authority of where I was listed was a "1" with zero moz trust and zero moz authority.  The root domain authority is a "69".  Is page authority or domain authority the most important for links? I believe all the directories I was submitted to have url page authority of "1". ( I watched a video yesterday and I think the head guy said that page authority was most important but I am not sure.

  • We have had a quality website for 12 years. We have good rankings and good PR. But for some reason, I have never been able to get listed on Dmoz.org - it's like they're not even reviewing it. It's not like I got a rejection letter or anything, just a no response and we just can't seem to get listed there. It's almost like the editors for our category are just not responsive or just not around. Or maybe they're a competitor and don't want us listed? Questions: 1. How important is it for an established site to get listed? I imagine that dmoz being an authority site, it would still be very helpful for rankings. 2. There are dmoz "submission services" - where they claim to list your site the proper way. They don't guarantee their service, since they obviously can't, and you have to pay either way. Does anyone recommend these services and anyone know of a particular one that is up & up? Any help on getting listed would be appreciated!

  • I am Perplexed about SEOmoz crawl for new links on a competitors website. When I looked at a company who received very high ranks for the links...on SEOMoz...such as. 95, 96, 97 etc.....  I couldn't figure out how they ranked so high.  One company bought 20 links for a couple hundred dollars and all of them were ranked very high on SEOmoz but when I used the page rank tool on them individually they were either "0" or "1" and none were over a 2. I was debating submitting for those since I am just starting out and wanted to get our name listed in the internet world.  Are the high rankings by SEOmoz related to something else? Would I be better off buying a listing in some of the premium directories instead. Like Yahoo or BBB or Manta. ( After I get my site optimized first) Thank you, Greg

  • Is it better to get a link from a site with lower PR but related content or higher PR but semi-related or unrelated content? For example, if I sell shoes, would a link from a PR1 or PR2 shoe or apparel site be better or a link from PR4 website that sells books be better? I'm not talking about sites with completely unrelated content, but how relevant is PR in obtaining relevant links if I am trying to raise the PR and rankings of my own site?
