    Morning all, I'd really appreciate it if you could take a quick look at this page and see if I'm missing something here. The targeted keyword (wedding favours) is pretty competitive and the rank had been slowly improving until recently and we've now slipped to 25th on Google UK. I've added a "Pay with a tweet" button for our eBook which has been pretty well received (around 100 downloads) so far so the social side is better than our competition. I've also written a few guest blogs with links back to the page from a variety of sources. Here is the page analysis on OSE. If you could take a quick look and let me know if I'm missing anything here, it would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

    I have a corporate client which has multiple franchises, therefore microsites (www.example.com/cityname) within their corporate website(www.example.com). I am trying to build some links for these microsites that are lot weaker than the corporate web page in terms of PA. We worked hard putting most of these locations into local directories such as Google places and yahoo local, but the ones on yahoo local are all pointing to www.example.com even when you search a specific city when it suppose to be www.example.com/cityname. So first thought is to edit all of the yahoo locals to the microsite webpages for every locations but then I thought that wasn't a good idea since I will split the juice passed to the corporate website www.example.com. The corporate website is really important and wouldn't want to weaken its PA. Can someone tell me what are my options in order to not hurt the corporate website and to improve ranking for these weak microsites? should I still edit those yahoo listings to the microsite website or not? if not what how will I be able to build more links? Thank you!!

    I have an email list of a few thousand and would like to start giving my subscribers a tip of the day. However, I have found that emailing all of them an email every day calls for a pricey email subscription. I was thinking of an RSS feed and a widget but those will only satisfy website owners/viewers. What is the best way to give a tip of the day via email to my subscribers without it costing me an arm and a leg?

    I would like to know, if anyone has a guess how much link juice I lose, if I use a subdomain instead of subfolder e.g. for a blog? If the blog of my main website is running on a subdomain e.g. blog.mainwebsite.com , my main domain would not benefit from the backlinks in the same way as with www.mainwebsite.com/blog . But has anyone a guess how much link juice I lose (maybe a guess in percent)? Many thanks in advance. Nadine

Recently I read about how an SEO had distastefully written an article using the name of a famous singer who had sadly passed away and used this event as an opportunity to write about a small business models 😞 Can anyone provide any useful AND ethical insights on how they use latest news items to help with SEO?

    I have a small site (.com) like any website in my sector. 30-90 pages. I have no crawls errors. Everythings is fine, just I need to improve my linking root domain, the followed linking root domain and the linking C-Blocks. Example: my competitors have 300 (one of them have 1300) of total links. I have 30. Anyone know some good strategies? techniques? tips? I just dont want to be in a farm directory, I want free links. I'm already running two strategies but it works so slowly. I want something faster at this moment. Also, any recommendation will be thankful.

    Im planning on creating an article each month centred around 1 keyword.
    Is it best to post this to the same site. eg http://ezinearticles.com/ every month or should I try to post it to a mixture of different sites? I'm trying to rank a site higher for their chosen keyword by gaining links from anchor text within each article I create.

    I asked a different question, which this one might over lap. Say your website has 100 pages, and you blog on different sites for back linking- should you do an article per page to keep the back linking to each page fresh? So for a person like me this would take me 100 days to recycle around. Just trying to figure out the best way to do back linking.

    What is more important to to create a strong PA or a Strong DA? I do not do a ton of back linking to my index page. I focus more on my focus page I am working on. I watch a SEOMOZ video and I took that DA is the most important as he only did back links to his index if I understood right.

    My web site is www.swimmer.co.uk it sells waterproof mp3 players & is the authority site in its niche I have no out going reciprocal links I don't  have advertising or encourage reciprocal linking as I thought it may devalue the sites quality & link juice I have had a reciprocal link request from a swim wear based website called   www.onlyswim.com that has a reciprocal linking sub-page with many varied links on it that are not just on the subject of swimming I don't think I will get any direct traffic from this website so I was wondering if ts worth me agreeing to a reciprocal link page I think we both have a PR of 2 **Any comments would be much appreciated ** In research to try & answer my own question I have just read this on wikipedia "Reciprocal linking between websites is no longer an important part of the search engine optimization process.Google and other search engines now do not give credit to reciprocal linking as it does not indicate genuine link popularity."

    Hi Guys, One area of my link building that I carry out is looking for online directories and social bookmarking websites to submit my website to. I do this in order to gain some backlinks to my website. What I want to know is are they really worth my time, and if so, which types would you say are the most important? I have obviously been through many directory lists, both on SEOmoz and on other websites, and also performed various searches to find relevant directories to my website. I just feel that posting up a link that lies deep in a directory online that, more often than not, have very low PA and lots of outbound links will offer very little in terms of SEO. If anything, this could really bring down the quality of my links and be detrimental to my website, right? This is a subject that I have been thinking about for a while and especially with the recent algorithm update from Google and the attack on many web directories that are, lets say, 'not playing by the rules', I'm worried that this will have a negative impact for my website. Let me know your thoughts guys and if you have any tips on how to get higher quality links from these kind of submission then I'm all ears! Matt.

    Hello, Ive been looking for answer to this but can't find it. How can you bump the number of search terms a search engine associates with content it has already indexed? I assume increasing links will do this, but I was wondering if there are other techniques? For example if Google webmaster tools lists a site at having some 700 terms it relates to your site, how do you increase this on your already existing content, to sort of saturate the number of words associated per page?

    As a lot of you people doing link building may have encountered most people we approach want a link exchange Ex: "I am willing to put a link on my site if you put one on yours." Now the question I had from this ... if I link to a specific website with rel="nofollow" and they link to me normally. Would it be of any value or because the 2 websites link to each other regardless of follow or nofollow the links have no value?

    Hi all, I have a site which I've been trying to get into dmoz. It's taken approx 2 years and I went back recently to submit it and it was there. I hadn't submitted for a few months so can't be sure when it went in. Is there a way to get google to spider that category again so it gets picked up quicker?     Hi Guys, We are trying to increase our rankings for the term "natural beauty products" for our home page.... I have created an article all about natural beauty products with the url as... domain/natural-beauty-products.html what I am worried about is this... because this page has more information all about the key word phrase & the url is the keyword phrase, will it out do my root domain ranking? I created the page to try and give the home page some weight for that key phrase, now I am wondering if I should have had the url as something like "why we love natural beauty products" then in that page included the keyword phrase link back to the home page!     Hi All, We have a site with over 6000 products, several hundred category pages, numerous brand landing pages etc etc. As part of an ever expanding SEO team we have a number of article/content writers that are writing QUALITY content. Because we are in the cooking/cookware/kitchenware niche, these articles are on a range of subjects. E.g. recipes, how to clean products, getting the best out of products, differences between brands and styles, seasonal trends etc etc. We currently have a dedicated blog that is a completely different URL to our ecommerce site, a number of smaller blogs that are quite spammy but rank well for certain terms that are all interlinked in a random way (hey, don't hate me), buying guides, all the usual social media accounts etc. We also sponsor a number of quality external cooking blogs that link back to our site when we give them products to review. My question is, how would you best use this content? We are looking at starting our own blog hosted on our ecommerce domain as well (the one on the other domain is OK, but our new blog will have awesome content). Any suggestions would be very helpful.     Hey guys, With all this anti over optimization movement going around with Google, I decided to do a link building profile audit. I see some pages with PR 0 and some pages that expired. My websites are not penalized at this moment, however I do want to avoid this at all costs. What can I do? Could a backlink from an expired domain penalize my site?

    How many links with page authority do I need to beat or get closer to competitor with page score 78 and domain authority score 72, if we already score 68 on page and 62 domain authority. This is in one of many beauty product markets. I ask because there is a company offering me for $80 each 10 links with higher than 70 page score (up to 80) and higher than 74 domain score (up to 86). All the other factors: number of links and social are almost the same for our website and the competitor's

    I get "form letter" type requests for links all the time from companies whose product has absolutely no relationship to mine.  I always decline them.  But I really want to build up link juice, and I'm wondering how to begin.  Is the "form letter" all right to send or should it be more personal?  I sell tablecloths; I assume I should go to home decor companies?     I noticed a pretty drastic drop in rankings 2 weeks ago after shelling out £7500 to a UK seo company for 5 months work. I went with this company  because they had showed very good results with the number one position company in an equally tough niche. So my rankings across the board dropped, i think 12 out of my 16 tracked keywords had dropped 10+ places or more. I immediately questioned what the hell they had been doing and was told that they were writing blog posts (which i knew about) to rank for category specific pages, but the linking method was using snippets of those blog posts to get links (which i did not know about) I was always told at the beginning that they have never given link reports and never will. Had i of known the links that were being built and they literally were the only type of link i would never have gone with them. Since then i have taken on an established member from the SEOmoz community and we have actioned a plan to go through all links and request removal from all bad sites. (in webmaster tools i have this message)

I must have nearly 100 blog posts and a lot of the early ones were wrote by someone whose English is definitely a second language. Would appreciate all your thoughts. Thanks guys

    I'm facing some issues after the google's recent update, been using blog networks, blog comments, web 2.0 submissions, directory submissions etc What techniques works now? i don't see any improve from web 2.0 these days may be we need to get enhance ? may be curated content? to what extent i understand this, i think they all are low quality backlinks which all the other blackhat markets use previous, and it even gets worst if we keep on doing this --- for the last 1-2 weeks i've stoped linkbuilding just searching for something concrete with this regard, because backlinks that are DoFollow is necessary to have! any thoughts on working techniques that won't harm my rankings?

    With Google's recent phishing expedition and increased focus on natural link profiles etc where does this leave PR distribution with optimized anchor-text? Using the pai for PR distribution services has always been a great way to build backlinks but I just wonder whether these will be considered over-optimised in future?

I have been told that these kind of website dont really do you many favours but i have signed up for a year so i am currently still using it. What does everyone think? Also is there a proven way to get high quality links with out spending hours traling other websites and asking if they want to exchange links because the normall answer i get is NO!

    Hello, We've used a popular paid blog posts platform to get back links through blog posts. Recently, performed a link audit noticed a very interesting problem. 40% of the 49 sites we purchased paid posts from, have been de-indexed. These blogs are the kinds that would take money from almost anybody in any given niche to write a review and give a paid link to you. So, I assume most of these blogs had a high number of outbound links. Their page rank has also been demoted to 0 (obviously since they're deindexed). Now, our dilemma is that should still go ahead with paid blog posts, after checking for the following: 1. PR 2. Google Penalty The sites at the time of purchasing the posts were not penalized. But 40% of the sites being completely de-indexed is a staggering number. Can someone please suggest whether to go with paid blog posts techniques or not?

    In Sydney we have an import car dealership and even though it does not show any backlinks to it: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.edwardlees.com.au%2F (make sure to search on Google.com.au for any relevant keywords I mention) However this website is ranking at the top for many competitive keywords, for example: 'japanese imports' It is dominating. Our website has many backlinks: http://www.opensiteexplorer.org/links?site=www.sportsautogroup.com.au But no keyword rankings. I understand we need to fix up our on Page SEO, but how does our EdwardLee's rank top with no backlinks?? Or is the tool just missing data?

    Hrello fellow Mozzers. There's been alot of writing about excessive anchor text usage, and as an SEO I get it. Don't get to crazy about it, but - WHEN is it excessive anchor text usage? Is it excessive if I have 50 links distributed in 10 blogposts?
    Is it excessive if I have a 250 links distributed across the entire site? It's fair enough that excessive anchort text usage get's you penalized, but it's freakishly annoying that nobody tells you WHEN you've reach the line that defines "excessive"... Anyone??

    Has anyone seen warnings about Artificial or Unnatural links notice show up in their Google Webmaster central yet? I just looked at each of our clients and had not but after reading the Search Engine Land article at http://searchengineland.com/google-warning-more-about-bad-link-networks-117079 I was wondering what your thoughts were regarding this topic? We are not purchasing links for our clients sites but definitely going out their and building links. Article concerned me that I may run into issues for my link building clients. Thoughts?

    I have a reseller web hosting account. I have more than 30 domains hosted on this account, and I have only one IP address. The websites are exactly similar in terms of niche but different locations, for example plumberlondon.co.uk

    Dear SeoMozers, We are working on ranking towards some hyper competitive keywords (each query has millions of searches a month) and working with an external SEO Vendor. We were not satisfied with the progress, therefore we asked them to send a revised SEO Plan. Here's what they proposed: 1. On Page Optimization (standard techniques) Off Page Optimization 1. Directory Submissions (100) 2. Article Marketing (Two unique 300 word articles to be submitted to 300 directories) 3. Press Release (Two Press Releases to 100 PR Sites) 4. Classified Ads Submissions 5. Business Listings 6. Link Reinforcement (Create wheel to circulate traffic) 7. Blog Submissions, Commenting, Forum Posting 8. Web 2.0 Link Building (Squidoo Lens, Hub Page, Link Wheel etc) 9. One Way Links (Not Specified how many) Our concern is that this sounds like low quality link building. We've given them 19 top keywords to achieve rankings for and will be paying $20-25K  to achieve Top 3-5 rankings for the targeted terms. Do you think this strategy would work or should we change the SEO Vendor?

    Hi We encountered a problem with our site during a migration to a new platform and we lost much of link juice. I have noticed on SEOmoz Open Site explorer that our old urls from the old site still exists and many have high page authority. The urls all redirected currently to a 404 page and it is not possible to retrieve the old information For example this page  http://www.featuredeco.co.uk/mall/departmentpage.cfm/FeatureDeco/_71989/1 This has a page authority of 32. Is it possible to retrieve the link juice from these pages and channel it on the Kind regards Paul

    I started building links about a month ago for a new, 48% difficulty (according to Keyword analysis) keyword. The on-site optimisation is OK I think, the URL is an A grade (with maximum points, only 1-2 low importance factors missing). I trust my team I work with as they already ranked my site for several keywords in the top 5 positions (only manual linkbuilding). I do not expect top 10 results, but my page did not show up even in the top 50. Furthermore, there are a lot of tiny and weak pages in the top 50. I started campaigns for some other keywords at the same time with this and those are already around 15-20. So is there anything I should check? I am worried I am doing something wrong.

    What is your take on custom domain vs free sub domain for SEO? (example.com vs example.blogspot.com) Say if I have 10 links from 10 different domains but all hosted on blogger.com, will it still have the same link benefit as ones hosted on different hosting account? I am assuming it might be less due to the same C class IP appearing for blogger hosting. What do you think?

    At what point is there diminishing returns from getting multiple links from one website? Edit: To clarify, when doing competitor research I come across lots of sites that have say 500 linking domains with 5000 total links. When setting goals and calculating the types of links I should go after, I'm not certain which number is the one actually helping the site to rank.
