Category: Link Building

Chat through link building best practices and outreach techniques.

  • I have come to realize that several SEO companies are basing their entire link strategy on paying bloggers to write a review about their client's website that also includes a link back to their website.  I am thinking about adding this as part of my link building campaign.  I am thinking about acquiring approximately 15 links a month from PR 2-5 blogs that pertain to my industry and target audience.  I am thinking of using the network payperpost.com to find good blogs. First question: Does this type of link building work well? Second question:  Is 15 links a month from PR 2-5 blogs (writing on my subject matter) enough to help out?

  • Hi Team, I've started my first campaign and would like some advice on building backlinks. I have got the no. 1 competitor's backlinks through OSE. Here is the first backlink URL as mentioned in OSE. for them: www.uofaemergency.org/ (DA: 45  PA:44) However the backlink appears on another page of that domain, not on the homepage as it says in OSE. That backlinking page as a PA of just 1. Do I go for the homepage or the page on which the competitor's backlink appears? It is an unrelated site to the niche and the content in which the link appears is nonsensical. Does this matter as far as link juice is concerned? Is this a good site or page to get a link from? How do I go about getting an in content anchor text link from this site? What's the required process? I would like to start buidling good links asap and start to get rankings for my site. Thanks. Sunil.

  • Hi Ive had a couple of good blog entries of major blogs in niche that my ecommerce site is working. Ive seen rankings on 2 major keywords go from 25-->14 and 30ish to 11 most likely because of these to entries. What happens when these 2 2 articles go of the main page of the blog an into 'archives' of blog ? Will ratings decrease again ? Thanks for help

  • Is there any reason why a link within an <area> tag would not be counted as correct backlink? In this example there is no <a> tag, so will this still be considered a link?</a>

  • Hi gurus from SEOville. Have any of you used VoltRank and if so, have any comments about them? they make it sound like being better than a link exchange but then again sometimes it is hard to see past the marketing spin. Cheers!

  • I am working with a friend on optimizing a site that has a troublesome set of issues. The company has integrated some ERP system that cannot be changed or removed and it is creating goofy URL's. So my question is which URL do I build links to? the www.xxx.com or the crazy URL that it is being redirected to. Site URL: www.nauticalchartsonline.com
redirect: http://www.nauticalchartsonline.com/n.c/NauticalChartsOnline.html I would greatly appreciate constructive feedback.. Thanks, Jeannie

  • I have the opportunity to display information about a business on a handfull of high PR web pages (with relevant content, not directory listings). I'd like to use these listings to build local search citations and homepage authority/rank for chosen anchortext. The format allows name, address, phone number, email & url plus a description of the business (short paragraph that can contain a link) - see below. Should I link from the homepage url and body anchor text?   Will search engines ignore the anchor text used in the 2nd link? Example Limited, 123 Example Road, London N12 3AA United Kingdom Tel: 020 712 3456   Email: ** [email protected]** **Web:  www.example.com  ** A unique service offering special widgets to customers in the London area

  • I've been playing around with OSE and found one of my competitors has a decent link coming from a post created in 2008. It only has two comments, one from my competitor with a link back to his site. The page has a PA: 55, it seems like an easy link but since the post is 3 years old im not sure its appropriate even though commenting is open. Any thoughts?

  • My name is Benny, i am writing here from account of my uncle, because he is a pro member, and i am a student dont have money to pay premium package. Now, I have placed some ads/links on a strong domains, for about 8 months, i paid always, but about 6 weeks i was sick, on hospital, and i have forget to renew the links, and now are removed, and ranking down too. My question is, can i restore the links with same anchors on the same places again on the same sites, or what to do? it's this danger if a link was for a 6 weeks down, and now again to re-place, some of them are 3-4 weeks, and some 6 weeks, it's this danger to replace again or not? What do you suggest me?

  • I'm a developer with little SEO / Marketing skills. I've recently redesigned my site ( www.habitmix.com ), I think the site is great but it doesn't get a lot of organic search traffic (about 30 visits a day). I have $1000 available to spend in next couple of weeks and am wondering what the best way to use the money would be. I realize SEO is a long term process not a one time job, and I realize $1000 isn't a big budget. So far I am considering : Finding someone on ODesk to create blog content, say a post a day for a month Finding an SEO company to analyse the site and create a link building strategy for me to execute. Surely there are a lot of other ways I could spend my $1000 that would help grow organic traffic. Any suggestions appreciated. Cheers Sam

  • Hi everyone - hope you can help. I have an e commerce store with lots of products.  I write unique, original  content for all of the products we sell.  I must be doing a good job because I repeatedly find my content being used in blogs, word press sites, and pay per posts which then link back to competitors.  I have the standard free copyscape logo pasted a the bottom of each page - hasn't deterred anyone. I'm now thinking about using some sort of a cookie based software and installing the code on each page so that when they lift my content and use it, it will send a link back to that page on my site.  I have called numerous plagiarizers in the past and threatened to sue using the "Digital Millennium Copyright Act" phrase in the course of my conversation.  It's tiresome.  It's work.  I am thinking after many years of frustration, that if I can't beat them I might as well try using this type of cookie based script/software approach to at least garner a link out it.  And if the abuser catches it then maybe he'll stop mid stream and think twice about using...I mean copying my content. Is using  this type of cookie/link back to us script a good or a bad idea?  How do you all prevent your unique, original content from being used?  And finally, if I'm looking at this from a positive link building standpoint (meaning, maybe I'm looking at it from the wrong angle), what is the best practice for garnering a link from this type of ongoing occurrence?

  • Hypothetical situation: You write a guest blog post for a popular blog about your niche topic.  The post is a hit and sends you visitors, leads, and social media followers. Would you consider running a linkbuilding campaign to the blog post in order to help it rank better for its target keyword(s), given that the post has proven to convert successfully, despite the fact that the post is on a domain other than your own?

  • Hi, I"m moving forward with link building for nlpca(dot)com and here's my plan I know my industry, keywords, and this site very well so I'll start by: Analyze Top content for top 10 competitors and see where the links are currently going. I'm assuming a competitor is someone similar to me and not sites like wikipedia in this case Make a spreadsheet for all of the worthwhile links that I find by using OSE and the top 10 competitors, places where if we're good enough we can get a link on that page. See what they're linking to Use (1) and (2) to discover what stelllar targeted content to build Use infographics, a blog, and articles to build targeted content to request a link from the people in (2) building out facebook, twitter, and Google +1 for the site is coming too. Your thoughts? I'm completely open to improvements via feedback.

  • I found one of our competitors developed URLs for every state in the US. They linked all these sites back to their site and they are ranking very high for each of these states. Here are 2 examples http://metalbuildingsmississippi.com/ #1 for "metal buildins mississippi" http://metalbuildingsoklahoma.com/ #3 for "metal buildings oklahoma" these pages don't even have a PR. Would you recommend doing the same with my site, writing unique content for each URL and building links?

How do you suggest best using this authority we're building up with these backlinks to spread it to the pages we'd like to rank for, especially after the contest is over and we take down the page?

  • Hello fine SEOMOZ people, I have looked around and hope I have not missed an answer to this. The big picture: I know that when multiple links on a page point to the same external page, only the first link is considered for ranking purposes (at least for moz rank). What about multiple links on a page to (different) pages on the same external domain? The task: Using a client's network of sites to help build links (and advertise features) to the site they need optimised. The emphasis is on the usefulness of the info the the respective site's user but I am using the opportunity to create some meaningful anchor text links. The target site is feature rich and I could conceivavbly link to all the key site features (top level pages). However, my SEO spidey senses flagged the possibility that a few links on a page to the target domain (though to different pages on that domain), may carry more weight than many links on the page. I am talking about whether I can go ahead and put 10-15 links on a page to the key site features or whether I am (significantly) better off just selecting 2-5 key target feature pages and using other domains to link to the other features. Caveat: I think I am aware of all the peripheral concerns - not duplicating the page on other sites, varying the anchor text, not implementing the links all at once etc, etc.. Am I overthinking this?

  • Let me put a disclaimer here that I do not use high PR networks in any of my seo endeavors. That being said, they have always looked attractive - especially post panda where in content links from high pr websites are valuable. I run seo campaigns for a large lot of websites & have been noticing my competition creeping past me who are using links from these networks to increase their positions for hard to attain keywords. Has anyone here had experience building links using these types of networks? It looks like they are under google's radar for now & are a great way to get some powerful links to your site. Any thoughts on if google will catch onto these types of links if they are properly protected (limited footprint, revolving links, unique content, etc.)? It's tough not to be at least interested in networks like this b/c of the results they provide.

  • Hi Guys, I've been checking for some people to write articles for my site. They are writing articles on their own sites. But before that, how can i know whether that site is valuable or whether it can pass link juice for my site. Please can someone explain about on how to know whether a site is important or not. Whether it will be helpful for my site in ranking ?? Waiting for your replies.

  • Basically I want to link from our main website to some of our PPC landing pages (to explain smaller elements of our offering). The reason for this is that the PPC pages are not exactly services but features that people might search for, so these pages are not navigable from the site (unless mentioned on another page). We do not want to include these pages as their own entity on the site, but people may want to click to see an explanation. So, my question is 2 fold: 1. Should I use an "open link in new window" link, what are the pros and cons of this. 2. Should the link description say that the link will open in a new window. i.e. [Feature name - opens in new window] What are your opinions on this? I know it may not have much, if any SEO benefit, but from a user point of view I feel it may offer some. Thanks in advance, Andy

  • Running ecommerce site selling childrens clothing for norwegian market. Most important keyword childrens clothing (barneklær) isnt too competitive (34 if i remember correct). The 2nd most important has very low competition (5 i think). I am starting a 3 month add with the best blog i found in norway. I am getting a 150x150 ad. In addition she is giving me a presentation in her blog tekst and allows me to arrange giveaway on my terms. She is allowing me to choose anchor text to use in presentation. Her stats to me seem very solid PA 58, DA 50 mozr 5,2 , mozt 4,6. http://www.joridkvam.com/ Should I in the upcoming months try to get in as many anchor texts links from her to different pages on my site. I have main words and producers etc that i am optimizing for on differnt sites. Or will the value of them just get diluted? so basically try to get in 2 links or 10 ? I am also curious as to which extent this one link will affect my ratings. I am ranking 24th for main term atm ( http://www.epleskrinet.no/ ) . Any one have any guesses ? thanks

  • Hello everybody, I'm pretty new to this whole SEO world but Im willing to do my best to learn the most crucial things in order to optimize our site for it. I've purchased the pro option and hope to get some insights into areas that need to optimized in order to get a great ranking by google. I've already started with share linking and social media activities, in order to build up links to our sites. Since our community will be a specified media sharing portal, Im not quite sure how I should start the linking process besides posting some relevant articles on digg, delicious, facebook, etc, incl. relevant links and content... I read in some of your forums that you would not recommend to pay for links. So how shall I start with the onpage optimization and link building process ? Appreciate your help! Thanks a ton! M.

  • One of our customers has been getting a whole bunch of really relevant links recently as many of his competitors are actually going to his site copying the text from his page and forgetting to remove the links that are within the text. Its amazing we have links from major UK providers of his products totally for free. This is where linking to the actual page itself is coming into play and we are gaining good back links. Has anyone else experienced this before ?

  • Hi, I'm creating an infographic for nlpca.com We're thinking of doing it on "What is NLP?" This is the most common question, and "What is NLP" it's a small but good search term There's not a lot of statistics if we do "What is NLP?", but there are drawings about the different parts of NLP. What recommendations do you have? I still need to go through all of our competitors' info and look at the content of competitors and make sure we've got the right topic Thanks.

  • Mozzers, I work in-house for a large lead generation for matchmakers. We do really well with PPC and that will always be there. They will always do PPC but have hired me to do SEO. We're ranking really good for some competitive key phrases as well. I believe in good content. I feel we should have a quality control for content just like we do before we run a a/b or a multivariate test. However there are people here who would rather pay $3 on oDesk for a article than a much higher price. How have you convinced your bosses or your clients that good quality content is the way to go? I've hassled for good links and got in contact with some bloggers who are ready to let us Guest Blog who have never done so before. What would you do?
