Dear Google
As a midyear Christmas present, I'd like to ask Google for a few things that would make my life a bit easier. Just to clarify, Google, I love you very much and I think you're superb, but everyone can do better. These are my requests:

I'm taking a temporary break in conference coverage (don't worry - there will be more next week) to poll some of the smartest people I know (that's you, SEOmoz readers), about an issue that's been keeping Gillian and I up plenty of nights during the past 3 months. SEOmoz is at a tipping point of sorts - we've gone from being primarily a search marketing consultantcy business, ...
I was stumbling around the net today and ran across one of the SEOmoz PPC ads. I remembered reading a post by Rand recently talking about a Premium Member Landing Page Contest and wanted to see if it was going on so I clicked the ad to see the landing page. After doing so, I looked around to see if I could find these...
Do we always even know? The more I think about the “up and coming” engines, I have to wonder who will be the first genius to consolidate our human desire for getting what we want when we want it with our desire to poke around on the internet. Reading through random articles on Wikipedia is, of course, a very popular phenomena and the entire premise of Digg is built ...
Reaching into the worlds of economics and statistics, I'd like to share a way to measure the health of online communities: This all started sometime around 2001 -- I originally heard of the Gini coefficient freshman year in college during one of those massive lecture courses of Economics 101...
In our continuing series of coverage, I'm pleased to present one of the most talked-about, anticipated and dramatic sessions of the SES San Jose conference so far (though I heard that the session on click fraud was also extremely contentious). For the past 2-3 years, Google (along with Yahoo! and MSN/Live) have hounded the micro-economy of paid link advertising and paid link networks at...
I'm taking a new approach with events and attempting to do more in-depth coverage of a couple of what I feel are the best, most interesting, most innovative or least discussed sessions at the conference. Since contextual advertising is an area where I have little to no experience, I found the panel fascinating - and certainly Microsoft's announcement of a contextual ad product on the Microsoft ...
1. Tech… You understand everything, absolutely everything that is posted on Google Webmaster Central Blog and Digital Point Design & Development Forums and more, you know that flash is not entirely a bad, and that AJAX and JavaScript can be effectively coded in. You also realize that maintenance and SEO objectives for a client are entirely differen...
To help keep the balance, I'll shine some light on some of my favorite things about search conferences: Presenting - It's exciting to be on stage, sharing ideas and being a thought leader. There's an undeniable allure to it, and while I take it as a serious responsibility, I admit that I have a real passion for it, too. Meeting New Peopl...
It turns out, I managed to learn something extremely valuable about SEO back when I was in high school. Which is odd, given that I graduated in 1991. It was my senior year, all my friends had been in the class of 1990, and I was taken suddenly by an uncharacteristic desire to make my mark on my small rural high school. After toying briefly with the prospect of toil...
Hey Gang, This week, Rand's got some insight for you into a down-and-dirty, nasty little trick Mert Sehinoglu clued us into. I can see you all drooling right now...wipe it up. Okay, okay. What if we told you there was a way to bump just about any competitor from the top two positions on Google? Bollocks, you say? It's true, my dear readers, all you have to do...
As much as I’m looking forward to SES San Jose next week, one of the areas for improvement for these kinds of conferences, in my opinion, is more presentations targeted to small businesses and sites with smaller budgets. Jennifer Laycock (Search Engine Guide) and Matt ...
I've read more beginner SEO guides than I can count, never really being able to convince myself that I'm not a beginner anymore. One thing that appears in a lot of these guides and lists of "SEO Facts" online is the fact that one shouldn't optimize a page for more than a certain number of terms. This usually ranges between one and three. I agree with this if you have free ...
I've been a fan of David Wallace for a while, but his rant on things that bug him about link sellers was one of my favorites. It also made me realize that I needed to write a solid post about link purchasing directly from websites under the radar of the engines. To some, this type of advice would put me squarely in th...
