  • If you have a business with multiple locations, is it better to link you Google Place pages to the home page (IE homepage.com) or directly to one of the location's pages. (IE homepage.com/location) ? Thank you

  • The link analyzer looks really great, I'm using it now to do some reverse engineering and it is seemingly able to give me far more than just the 1k limit we can get from yahoo site. But it spits out the results to a csv file which just has everything bunched up into a bunch of gibberish. Is there a way to get a plain text file so its readable/usable? Or how to convert or view the csv file properly? Thanks

  • These guys have a service for bloggers and advertisers - advertisers submit their wares for review and bloggers review providing text links - they also let people know they are getting paid for the review is this another grey link building tactic https://www.reviewme.com/ and what about https://www.text-link-ads.com/r/advertisers

  • I have several ideas for articles and infographics, but I am having a hard time finding reliable statistics to include. What resources do you use for this? Do you have a company you recommend for hiring to help develop this data? I appreciate any help. Thanks!

  • When is linking from one particular keyword to much. At what point could link building from one keyword be considered spam and potentially delist a site ? Is it possible for a site to be delisted for having to many links from the same keyword ? Heard linking from the website name is more important following recent changes. I try and link from a selection of 3 to 4 keywords. Thanks for your help

  • Hello, When optimizing for multiple keywords, should I try to get links back to the root domain of the company I work with, or would it be better to link back to sub-sites specific to the keyword I am optimizing for? Does 'getting the root up' help all keywords I work with? Cheers, Mike

  • I guess it IS buying links, but I have read many reviews saying they are ok (Which might just be part of thier network of sites :)) It seems like cheating, but they say they do the leg work, that it's not just automatic junk links. Any experience with them? Thank you!

  • Hello All, A major magazine DA98 did an article in 2007 about a project our company worked on. The specifically named our company in both the printed and online (PA53) versions of our article. Even though this article is old, I think this has HUGE potential if we can pull it off. Do you think it's possible to contact them and encourage them attach a link to our company name. Their newer articles are pretty good at doing this, but I guess in 07 it wasn't practiced by them. What's the best way to approach this and who should I go to? Webmaster? There is also a slight downside, the article does contain information about explosives, but not in a bad way. Could the search engines dislike this. I'm assuming not because of the PA and DA numbers for the magazine company. Would love to hear your thoughts and ideas. dmac

  • I manage a computer repair company website, www.callnerds.com One of our main marketing strategies are blog articles and press releases to newspappers. Because of this, we have a subfolder for the author of the newspaper articles who is becoming well known, and we wanted a place for people to connect with her personally.  on this site callnerds.com/andrea We only publish articles that Andrea writes. Then on the blog we publish all of the articles, including articles that andrea writes, in addition to articles written by everyone else on our staff. i would like suggestions on wether a canonical link on the /andrea site should be used. the canonical link wold point to our blog. Her site is starting to get high quality links from newspapers and magazines, however all of the content on the site is duplicate content of the same article on our blog. Any thoughts?

  • Yo! I have been doing a tonn of research on a few of my top competitors and have noticed that a decent percentage of their links are from link directories. Most of these directories seem organized and the links on the pages are relevant to the selected category. These pages offer both free link submission and a paid feature link submission. My question is that is it a good idea to submit my site to these directories with the recent Panda update(s). I have read a bit about it, but still do not fully grasp the overall picture of it. Any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Is there a rule of thumb I am unaware of or a place that others start to get links for every new site they create, something like the "first 100 links for every new site" regardless of content? I know you always start building links around what the content of your site is about, but does anyone have a rule of thumb that you always start with links from certain sites regardless of the site content. For example for a local company: Google Places, Bing Local, Linkedin, Facebook, Localeze etc. etc. I just want to make sure I am taking quality first steps for every site I start and was wondering if anyone could give me some good rules of thumb or resources.

  • Here's a quaint one: 1. Posting follow links on another site helps increase one's domain authority. 2. If I post to the same site/forum with followed links each week, would my domain authority reap a domain authority increase benefit? In short, is there any domain authority benefit to continually post links to a site to which I've already posted a follow link?

  • I work as the SEO manager for a company and we recently launched a new site. Along with this I've been doing some intensive SEO over the past 30 days in getting partners to add or change links and had a big impact on our main keyword, document management software. For the past 2 weeks we've been at position 6 but today I noticed that we dropped down to 11th. I'm wondering if I'm getting penalized for too many exact anchor matches because we recently have been featured on an industry site, cmsreport.com with good anchor text and suddenly we have dropped. Is Google penalizing me for this? If so it seems odd that with legitimate PR and posts I get penalized.

  • Hello Mozzers! Basically I want to add a beefed up "resources" page (directory style) to my site to attract in bound links. Below is an example of a site that has a similar directory style resources area. http://www.petfinder.com/shelters.html I was thinking that it might be good to add a resource box in my site footer with links to these resource pages such as: 1) Dog breeder resources
    2) Dog training resource
    3) Dog shelters/kennels
    4) Pet health resources
    5) Pet care resources And funnel links to my category pages from there .. I was looking for some feedback or any tips or the best way to go about doing this and if anyone knew of a SE friendly script or something that that I might be able to integrate with my site (x-cart / PHP) platform that would make it easy to populate / update, ect Below is a paste of how one person I talked to envisions it: I'd suggest building some pages of value, such as dog resources pages (rescue groups & resources, etc.), adoption resources, etc. I'd guarantee if the resources were very comprehensive and built correctly, you'd get more bang for the buck versus throwing hundreds (or even thousands) away on sub-par links. Case:
http://www.tnj.com/black-history-makers/major-inventions-african-americans (a simple test content page to show this client we could build lifetime links with a few hours of work for a decent-sized resource page) Although very ugly, this is more of a gold mine for links taking the example above:
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/inventors/black.shtml This is just one simple example but I hope you get the concept versus ongoing payments for junk links. The more links you get to internal pages - even the resource guide pages - the more opportunity to link back to core product pages contextually or within the content portion of the page of side columns. The goal is to create funneled links from these resource pages back to your other pages, but doing it in a manner that's not outlandish or spammy in nature.

  • I have a client that has 2 websites in a particular industry. The first website concentrates on advertising services and products to other organisations/companies but does not sell anything online. The second website is an ecommerce site with many products from the same industry and is more a b2c operation. Would it be considered ok to add maybe 5 footer links from one to the other and vice versa? considering that they are footer links and will ultimately increase total links pointing to both site exponentially. Both sites are hosted in the same location.

  • I have a client who is using a SEO company (Hubshout, delete name if necessary) to boost traffic to their website. They are doing this by publishing articles and submitting them to article directories, then they use their own sites/blogs (which are valueless, PR and MozRank of zero) to point to these articles and they say that this helps boost there rankings. How? They are not linking to the clients websites, creating artificial links from their own websites to article directories instead of the clients website. Are they trying to boost the value of the article or trying to boost their own websites? How does this help out the client? It is similar to three way linking but is not.

  • Lets say I have a commercial website that nobody will link to so I create a non commercial website with some awesome content that is highly linkable. I then get 30 - 40  quality links pointing to this site which I then either rel ="canonical" back to my main site to the page with the replica content or  do I simply add a text link from the new site to the old sites homepage. Which would benefit my commercial site most? We are seeing the strategy of building a non commercial site for links becoming more and more popular.  The second question is is it worth the effort for in effect one backlink?

  • I have a Driving School website www.1stclassdriving.co.uk. The site is structured geographically with 36 area pages, one
page per area post code and one page per Driving Instructor. I am trying to develop links and have found a site (da91 pa
    63) where I can create area links to each of my area pages if I
wish. Is it best to just create one link to the root page or
should I create 36 individual links to each area page? - which is most valuable?

  • I wanted to put a call to action in my internal profiles, but I'm not able to get out of the classic "check out" and "learn more" links. Right now the best copy I've been able to come up with is: <nickname>is using StyleJam for his web design portfolio - check out the benefits </nickname> Where "check out the benefits" is a link to my home page. I wanted to understand first of all how important this is, and second what techniques you use for internal calls to action. TIA.

  • I have decided to approach all my suppliers and ask them for a link. If their site has a lower PR/DA than mine (PR4, DA43) is is it still worth asking them from a link, given the time that needs to be invested in this type of link building?

  • Okay, I've heard a lot about botw.org listing and how it should be on our list. So I dig down to my category, and according to seotoolbar, page does NOT show a google cache date. Well, wouldn't that be a wast of $150? Also, I think I'm in the wrong business. I'm seeing these HUGE fees for seo and link building services. Even just consulting is outrageously high. There has got to be an option for us little guys, but obviously professionals in the seo market are making a ton of money.

  • I have three new sites all hosted on the same server in the same public html folder and each site is in a different folder inside the public html folder.  These sites are a listing of live music venues in different cities in Texas.  Should I link these sites together to increase page rank to each other and also put key search phrases in the anchor text and place these links in the text in the center of each page of each site to make the links more effective? Also, because the sites are about a year old they don't have many inlinks yet.  If i submit them to about 50 directories will Google not like this because there are way more directory links than natural links?  I've been told that it is trouble to have more than about 50% directory links compared to natural links. Thanks in advance for your answers! Take care,
    Ron

  • Hello, I would like to hear your strange/unusual/funny ideas for link building campaigns for a website targeted in the short term lending industry. It doesn't matter how easy/complicated it is to apply them, but the more realistic the better. Please don't post anything that was covered in detail somewhere else or something that does not have at least a small/tiny level of realism. An example: Extract the funniest/smart quotations related to money. Create an article where you explain that "even if you are in the short term loan industry" you care about your customers and you want them to educate them so in the future they can avoid getting in a situation when they have very few alternatives.

  • Morning Mozzers! I work for an online wedding retailer and we add new, unique, high quality content to our blogs on a daily basis. After adding the new content we Tweet it and mention it on our Facebbok page. My question is this: how can I distribute the content to generate back links? Any example sites or case studies of things you guys have done in the past would be great! Thanks in advance.

  • In doing competitor link analysis on Open Site Explorer, I've noticed quite a few links coming from the same domain listed separately. This seems to be especially prevalent with Google directory listings. For example, I'll see a link to the site from google.hu/...., google.am/..., google.kz/..., etc. In some cases, it will be prefixed with an IP address, followed by the subfolder address. Correct me if I am wrong, but these seem to be all counting as separate root domains that are linking to the site. How is this done? Are directory submissions given to each country's google directory? Does an original DMoz listing get re-submitted to all of these? Just looking for some clarification on this and how it's accomplished. Thanks everyone!

  • Hi I am working on a photography site: www.daffodilwaves.co.uk now there isn't many pages nor is the that much text. However you will see that they have a blog (poorly designed one which we are addressing) Now blog posts I feel can be really good as there is generally alot of naturally written text which I don't feel I need to influence. Also generally people will comment so I also believe that is good for rankings too. However I find that the blog ranks higher than the actual website and I dont want that to occur the website is the one that generates the bookings. So can you give me some ideas to transfer the ranking from the blog to the website?  I was thinking that within the article I could simply link back to the homepage - would you think that is a good idea? If so would you suggest I use particular anchor text? such as "Wedding Photographer" or "Comtemporary wedding Photographer" Thanks

  • I been implementing a Joomla site and my site has different ways of accessing several links therefore I need to use the canonical tag. Now I'm using Joomla 1.6, and most of the extensions that I've seen until now don't provide me the expected or they do other things that I just don't want. Therefore other than modifying the code or creating an extension myself I've decided to look into placing the canonical elements in the page.

  • Hi guys, At the moment we have our main website that is at .com We have also bought all the other domains that are available, such as: org.uk, .jp, .it, .mobi, co.nz, co.za, com.au, .cn and .eu Is there a way we can make these domains work for us a bit more? Currently they all just redirect to .com. Would it be better to put a holding page with a link to us and then a redirect on?

  • Or do you find that this takes more time than it is worth?  I mean there are literally thousands of websites that allow you to signup and create a public profile and drop your link in there.  But is this really worth the efforts? Would like to hear from some people on both sides of the argument, as i am sure there are people who do this, and also people who don't on here.

  • My client sells security software online. Our keyword research shows massive traffic for competitor brands relative to the non-branded terms and my guess is that this traffic converts well.  I'd like to figure out a way to get some of that traffic for my client without crossing any ethical boundaries. The only thing I can think of is having a comparison page with good onsite optimization. Does anyone else have any tips on how to rank for these terms?

  • Hi, We are currently in the process of launching a value-added service website for Forex traders. We have done on-page optimizations and are climbing up the rankings for both Google and Bing. We have first page and top three rankings for most of the easier keywords we optimized for. Thus I think we have stretched our on-page SEO to it's limits and are now considering our off-page strategy. Does anyone here have experience with the Forex space? Can anyone point me to important SEO resources specific to this space? Thank you!

However, somehow it doesnt get to the top 10, although I placed some quality link to it. It ranks for some long tail keywords... We have daily new posts and use vbulletin + vbseo. The strange thing is that there a ranking really low-quality sites under the top 10. Hardly any content and low quality links... Any tips?

  • I have a band website and was thinking of making some link bait pages specifically designed to get links from high page rank music colleges and then funnel that page rank to my landing pages on my band site.  I am planning on finding out what these colleges link to and create great information on pages on my site that the high page rank college websites will link to thereby boosting my trust and authority.  How much will the trust and authority boost my site in the search engines?  Because the colleges will be music colleges they should be relevant to my band site.  Does this sound like a good strategy? My question is, i'm guessing during the summer holiday period, reaching out to these webmasters won't be so fruitful.
