  • Hi Our crawl report detects that we have not put in a meta description for any of the tags we have used on our blog.  (total tag words we have used is around 70). We have however, put a full description of each of our categories, do we really need to put a description for each of the tags we use?  Will this really help us with SEO? Also can tags on posts be the same as the keyword your trying to rank the post/article about? For further information We are using Yoast.

  • I have a pretty simple landing page that at present targets several keywords. Is a good strategy to add a blog to the site on a subdomain with pages targeting individual keywords? Will this help the main domain rank? Also is the best strategy  to focus on building links to the home page or individual pages on the subdomain? As long as each page on the subdomain links back to the home page it should pass link juice back to the home page shouldn't it? Thanks in advance!

  • If I want to have a cornerstone "page", can I substitute an actual page with a category archive of posts "page" (that contains many posts containing the target key phrase)? This way, if I make blog posts about a certain topic/ key phrase (example "beach weddings") and add a canonical URL of the category archive page to the individual posts, am I right then to assume google will see the archive page as the cornerstone page (and thereby won't see the individual posts with the same key phrase as competing)?

  • Hi. Before we had our site www.in2town.co.uk upgraded, we had this section on the first page of google and even though it does not badly with other search engines, with google we are not in the top fifty. the page is http://www.in2town.co.uk/gastric-band-hypnotherapy i would be so grateful for advice on how to get this section back into google i am also concerned that i have a category called gastric band hypnotherapy, what i mean is, http://www.in2town.co.uk/gastric-band-hypnotherapy/crash-diets-can-damage-your-health-says-gastric-band-hypnosis-expert as you can see from above, we have the category name which is gastric band hypnotherapy and then the article name, just wondering if this is damaging us. any help to sort our ranking issue our would be amazing

  • Hello - We are looking to try to bring up some keywords in the SERPs that we are currently ranking fairly low for. We sell Christening clothing for children and people will use both Christening and Baptism to search for the same thing. We currently rank very high for Christening (#1 on Google for certain combinations) but we are fairly low on Baptism.
I am trying to figure out the best way to start getting Baptism up by changing some title, URL and content pages to include more Baptism keywords. My concern is messing with the existing because we rank so well for Christening. Since we are ecommerce we can vary this quite a bit on our products, but again I'm nervous to do so fearing changing the wrong things, too many products etc and in the process of trying to raise one set of keywords (baptism) we harm the other set (christening).
    Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Hello, I have a page that isn't ranking very well. http://nicontrols.com/uk/drives-motors/variable-speed-drives According to the MOZ research tools I have too many on page links. I believe most of these are a result of the advanced filtration options on the left hand side of the page.  I don't want to remove the filters as they are extremely useful for customers but I am also worried about the number of links Anyone get any ideas about the number of links? Should I care?

  • Hi, This is probably going to sound a bit stupid, but I nevertheless want to check. We have a site that's going to have identical pages (really not my choice) for a sales reason. The two examples would be example.com/profile-name and example.com/location/profile-name Users using the onsite navigation will always end up in the latter example naturally as they have to select a location before viewing content (plus having the location in the url is nice as there are multiple profiles across different locations that have the same name). However, it's easier to sell our services when we can offer just example.com/profile-name to users for their own marketing reasons. I'd like to make the example.com/profile-name noindex follow, and have just the example.com/location/profile-name indexed, but not sure if it would be better to implement canonical tags instead? Can anyone see any potential pitfalls of using either method or does it not really make a difference (which is what I suspect, but I'd rather look stupid than get this wrong)? Thanks!

  • For some reason Google Displays a wrong page title of some of my pages. E.g. page http://www.imoney.my/home-loan The title in the search reach results says "Home Loan - iMoney", but the one I've set up is <title></span><span class="webkit-html-tag">Housing Loan: Compare Mortgages of All Malaysian Banks @iMoney.my</span><span class="webkit-html-tag"></title> Even when I preview it on the preview tool, it shows the full title, but when I google - again the short one. Does anyone know what the reason for that is?

  • I have seen several websites recently that have have far too many webpages indexed by Google, because for each blog post they publish, Google might index the following: www.mywebsite.com/blog/title-of-post www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/tag1 www.mywebsite.com/blog/tag/tag2 www.mywebsite.com/blog/category/categoryA etc My question is: if you add a robots.txt file that tells Google NOT to index pages in the "tag" and "category" folder, does that mean that the previously indexed pages will eventually disappear from Google's index?  Or does it just mean that newly created pages won't get added to the index?  Or does it mean nothing at all?  thanks for any insight!

  • Some category pages on my website have A LOT of product pages in them. Many of these pages do not receive any sort of organic traffic. Is there a reason for Google to be crawling these pages? Should I noindex, nofollow these pages to make Google's life a little easier? Could I possibly see some benefits from this or should I leave it the way it is?

  • I have a question on a problem I am currently faced with.  There is a certain keyword that my employer wants to rank for. The good news is that sometimes it does rank in the top 5 pages of Google. (It drops in and out) The bad news is that it is going to a page that we need to keep, but not the ideal place we want people who are looking for that keyword to go to. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this type of situation and what tactic they used to get people to the better page.

  • Hi Guys I wrote and published an article last night on my site but it is yet to be indexed. This is strange as articles are usually indexed pretty quickly. Could you have a quick look and see what the problem is? http://www.rankmytri.com/tomtom-running-and-triathlon-watch/ Also all my Blog posts (in the blog section of the site) are not indexed as well (and I dont think they have been for a while) yet I dont have any messages from Google in my webmaster tools. Thoughts? Thanks in advance Ross

  • I've just manually edited all of the page titles, meta descriptions and optimised the copy on a client's site.  I submitted this for a new crawl on Google via Webmaster Tools but when I do a Google search the old versions are still showing.  Will it still take a few weeks for the new versions to show even though Google has crawled it via Webmaster?

  • In Word, you can specify "Heading 1" text which Google presumably treats the same as an HTML tag. Is there any benefit in using the "Title" style? Is it the equivalent of a web page's title?

  • I have fully optimized on-page SEO for the following keyword (not really the one I use, but it can serve as an example): -personal driver in los angeles Even though "in" is a stop word, I prefer to have a natural (non-robotic) structure for the title - I do this by including "in". I believe that "personal driver los angeles" is too spammy and too robotic. Is this a good or a bad thing?

  • I posted this article last night: http://www.londontri.com/325/tomtom-runner-gps-watch-review It didn't appear in Google's index this morning despite me pointing a few high quality links to it (not keyword optimized links, just links from high quality forum posts) On closer examination I thought that the problem could be due to a keyword stuffing penalty so I have made sure that I am not repeating too many words/word combinations using a keyword density checker but the article is still not indexed. Any ideas what could be going on?

  • We have a website being built that will effectively function like an e-commerce site. When customers search within the site, we will display the results (sometimes hundreds). We were thinking of implementing infinite scrolling, but with so many results which all function as links to product pages, would this look funny i.e. having too many onpage links? Would the links at the bottom pretty much just be ignored (which is fine) or would they bring disrepute to the results further toward the top of the page? Thanks!

  • One of the pages on the website is #7 on the first page for a highly competetive keyword. Since I would like to improve rankings and the page is not optimized (e.g. keyword density is 0), is it SEO-wise to edit an article and create a good on-page optimization? Of course, the ultimate goal is to be in TOP 3 for a specific keyword.

  • We used an SEO firm back in the day to create gateway landing pages for our site heavily optimized for certain keywords and phrases. They ranked well for years and then the panda/penguin updates hit and the pages no longer rank at all. The content on the pages is actually useful and decent (http://payloadz.com/info-sell-ebooks.asp). The html is over-optimized on keyword though. What should be our strategy here? The keywords and phrases are still important for us. Should we move the content to another URL with less HTML optimization, remove the existing optimization on the pages where they are? The backlinks are of poor quality as well. We have gone through a disavow process and still no affect on these pages after a month.

  • Hi guys, Currently, we are using Magento Enterprise to run two separate ecommerce websites, for arguments sake lets say these two websites are ElectronicsX.com and electronicsY.co.uk. ElectronicsX.com isn't doing too well, it has little traffic, makes next to nothing each month and is just a waste of resources. ElectronicsY.co.uk on the other hand is getting 30,000 unique visits every month and is over exceeding every month in terms of revenue in sales. At the moment, the only traffic we get from Europe tends to be the odd "word of mouth" customer and English customers who have emigrated to Europe but still like to use English companies. We can't rank on Google FR or ES or anything like that because the website we have "electronicsY" is on a .co.uk TLD (a GeoTLD). So what we want to do is take ALL the content from electronicsY.co.uk and place it on electronicsX.com so that we can start targeting Europe and ranking in the serps internationally. What sort of effect will that have in terms of penalisation from Google? Or because the websites are on the same C block, would it have any effect at all? Thanks guys Tom

  • Hi Guys, I am having a terrible time trying to get the correct optimized (for speed, none blocking etc) order for loading my external css and JS. I follow the recommendations from Google Page Speed or Chrome Audit and it seems no matter where I move the CSS file too (top or bottom) it complains about more blocking and stopping rendering of the page. My URL is http://www.MyFairyTaleBooks.com if some smart person out there could help me figure out what I am doing wrong and the order in which my should be organized I'd appreciate it! Oh I'm not a developer but I can re-arrange text in a file! 😉 Thank you!

  • Dear Community, on 27th of July I relaunched my own website and submitted the sitemap as well I send the index-page to crawl it including all linked pages. Already the next day the new pages have been indexed. Today I checked them manually if they have been indexed. The result is that 2 of 13 pages have not been indexed, here marked in bold: http://inlinear.com/
    http://inlinear.com/suchmaschinenoptimierung-online-marketing.php
    http://inlinear.com/design/
    http://inlinear.com/design/printmedien-gestaltung.php
    http://inlinear.com/design/corporate-design-und-corporate-identity.php
    http://inlinear.com/design/corporate-raum-design.php
    http://inlinear.com/webentwicklung/
    http://inlinear.com/virtueller-rundgang-360grad-fotografie.php
    http://inlinear.com/business-atlas-online-verzeichnis.php
    http://inlinear.com/baudokumentation-bauueberwachung.php
    http://inlinear.com/ueber-uns.php
    http://inlinear.com/blog/
http://inlinear.com/kontakt/ The page "/design/" (which is the index.php of this folder should be the main-page because its about WEB DESIGN.
Should I create a copy and call it /design/web-design.php? May be Google prefers a meaningful URL than the index.php? So I put then a rel=canonical to web-design.php in my index.php? design/corporate-design-und-corporate-identity.php
The URL is a little long, but this should not be the reason? Or might be a reason that another page which is still in the index, but not online anymore (even redirecting to /design/) is still more dominant? Strange.... orshould I simply wait a little or try submitting these to sites manually to google? When checking Google Webmasters Tools Google tells me that just 3 pages have been indexed.
When I was checking which page is indexed or not I checked each URL with the site-search option:
site:inlinear.com/pageX.php ... when Google shows this page, it was a sign that it was indexed but why webmasters tools show up only 3 pages? (see screenshot) Do you have any ideas?
    Thank You 🙂 indexed.png

  • I am having a few issues understanding the whole report card and canonical issue. I have a wordpress blog www.theseolab.com.au. When i created the blog i had setup http://theseolab.com.au and i thought that was my mistake. When i ran the on page report for www.theseolab.com.au . It said that my canonical was http://theseolab.com. So i changed it and my canonical points to http://www.theseolab.com.au. 5 days later i run the on page again and it still says that there are issues and it still shows that my website canonical is not pointing to the right link. Does it take time to update or am i missing something?

  • Hi everyone, I'm new to both Moz & seo, and am attempting to tackle our site's issues after being hit by panda / penguin, so would be grateful for any advice offered. I bought a website 3 years ago after the previous company that ran it went into administration.  Having bought the website, it became apparent that the employees of the previous company had copied the entire site content, and relaunched it with a new look / brand.  Over the last 3 years they've rewritten much of the content, but there remains a lot of links from their site back to ours which have had the anchor text stripped out, and point to images on our site which have since been removed, example below... <a href="http://www.MyCompany.com/catalog/images/filename.pdf" target="<a class="attribute-value">_blank</a>"><strong>strong>a> What I'm trying to understand is whether the 404 errors being returned by the broken links, and the presence of 'hidden' links on their site, is likely to reflect badly on our site or theirs? I'm not interested in outing anyone here, and I realise the standard recommendation for these kinds of situations is to write to the company telling them to remove the offending content, but if at all possible I'd prefer to fix our site by improving content & links etc, rather than 'force' them to take action and inadvertently improve their own site's content / rankings. As I say, all advice gratefully received 🙂

  • Hey Guys, Our website has just recently started to manage our website with SEO in mind and there are a few things that I am concerned about. 1. Domain authority, moztrust, mozrank have been dropping. 2. We had 368k links on 6/27 and on 7/11 we had 563k Is this a result of confusion between our www.websitenamehere.com and websitenamehere.com?

  • I recently redesigned a site that had all the keywords it was ranking for going to the home page. Now I have specific pages for each of these keywords but I'm seeing the home page (not the page that, if I do an on page optimization by hand in MOZ gives me an A rating) showing up in the auto reports (assuming pages Google sees for these keywords related to the url) as F's. They're all pointing to the home page. I've redirected the old index.html home page to the new but I suspect the reason is actually these pages (were) ranking for these terms (though none too well - all but one were not in the top 50 and one was 45) because these rankings are all dropping as well. I'm at a loss, with the site replaced, as to how to correct this and tell Google these keyword phrases all have their own pages now. I've dug through this forum and the only applicable answer I can see would be to add these phases to the home page (where they all rank for now) with anchored links to their new (A rated by Moz for these terms when I hand enter them) singular pages? Or is it just a waiting game?

  • I have my Wordpress SEO settings to deindex past page 1 of each category. However, Google Webmasters is selling me I have 210 pages with duplicate title tags. My site tanked last weekend and I don't know if it was Google Panda or what. I have been getting some fantastic backlinks and it seems like they just decided to disregard all of them as I am completely off the SERPs. Is this duplicate content a contributing factor? How can I get google to deindex my category pages past page 1? (I do need the first page to index as that does bring me organic traffic) Thanks.

  • Hi Mozzers ! I'm running a small online vintage bag and jewellery store (www.vintageheirloom.com). Items are unique and need to be written up individually. Whilst the details condition, age etc are unique many of the items name's aren't. For instance, we have over a year had several bags that we've named: Vintage Celine classic box bag Naturally Moz has pulled up these as duplicates, same product title. I could append a unique database id number at the end of each title but it looks strange for the customer. I could add a few details like condition, age & price e.g. Vintage Celine classic box bag - B+ 80s 90s £425 but I don't think this would be entirely unique either. Has anyone a good strategy for creating unique product titles that looks ok and informative to the customer? Thanks for looking. Kevin abut some items do have the same Does anyone have a strat

  • The Moz crawl warns me many of my pages have too many links, like this page http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting    ...... has 269 links but many of the links are like this /jobs/jobtitles/Accounting?k=&w=3&hiddenLocationID=463170&depth=2 and are used to refine search criteria.... when you click on those links they all have a canonical link back to http://www.webjobz.com/jobs/industry/Accounting Is my page being punished for this? Do I have to put "no follow" tags on every link I do not want the bots to follow and if I do so is Roger (moz bot) not going to count this as a link?

  • This has been addressed plenty of times but I cannot find an example that addresses my issue so that is why I am posting this. I am getting the following Self-Cannibalization error for my Homepage and I am trying to fix it but I just don't see it or maybe I do not understand this correctly. http://fake-diploma.com    Keyword Fake Diploma Cannibalizing link"How to make a fake diploma", "How to get a fake diploma", "Making a Fake High School Diploma", "Fake Diploma Template", and "Framing your fake diploma" My understanding is that for Self-Cannibalization to occur I would have to have a link on this page pointing to another page using "Fake Diploma" as my anchor text since I want this page to rank for Fake Diploma. I do have the left sidebar which contains my most recent post and my of my titles do include Fake Diploma but I thought that since they were not an Exact Match and are actually longtail keywords that they did not matter or cause Self-Cannibalization.  Am I wrong? How do I fix this.

  • We have a separate page for every product of every bank e.g. http://www.imoney.my/home-loan/citibank The idea is to make it rank for the name of the keyword + the name of the bank.
