Introduction to Moz Academy Certifications
Within Moz Academy, we offer SEO Certification course series to help you learn about key SEO strategies and how to implement them. Once complete, you will have the option to add your newly earned Moz Certifications to your LinkedIn profile. Below, we will outline information regarding the Certifications currently offered through Moz Academy.
SEO Essentials Certification
The Moz SEO Essentials Certification will give you the foundational knowledge you need to execute on common SEO projects. By the end of this course, you'll be able to develop a competitive SEO strategy and apply foundational skills like page optimization, link building, and more.
This course consists of over 5 hours of video content, quizzes, and a final exam. The total time commitment is approximately 7-8 hours, depending on your speed. All of the videos in the SEO Essentials Certification series offer closed captioning. On each video, you'll see a CC in the lower right corner of the screen. You can turn the captions on and off by clicking this graphic.
In order to receive your Certificate, you must complete all five courses and earn a score of 80% or higher on the exam. You will have three attempts to complete the final exam. You can view your course progress by clicking on each course. Lessons are marked with a checkmark when they are complete. You may take the final exam again right away if a passing score is not reached in the first attempt.
Keyword Research Certification
The Keyword Research Certification will cover everything you need to know to implement a keyword research strategy. By the end of the series, you’ll be able to confidently recognize and understand your audience, perform keyword research, identify target keywords, and monitor your progress in the search engines. Anyone working in SEO would benefit from a comprehensive understanding of keyword research! This Certification is particularly beneficial for individuals working in a content-focused role.
This series consists of over 4 hours of video content and a final exam. All of the videos in the Local SEO Certification series offer closed captioning. On each video, you'll see a CC in the lower right corner of the screen. You can turn the captions on and off by clicking this graphic.
In order to receive your Certificate, you must complete all 4 courses and earn a score of 80% or higher on the exam. You will have three attempts to complete the final exam. Please note: This Certification heavily overlaps with Part 2 - Develop Keyword Strategies of the SEO Essentials Certification. If you have already completed the SEO Essentials Certification, we don’t necessarily recommend this Certification - it would feel very repetitive! You may want to check out one of our other Certifications instead.
Local SEO Certification
The Local SEO Certification is for anyone looking to add local SEO to their skillset. It covers topics from local ranking factors to setting up and maintaining your Google Business Profile. Although it’s driven by zip codes, cities, and states….. local SEO knows no bounds! No matter your SEO proficiency, role, or focus, it’s imperative to understand how local SEO affects your search visibility, and why it’s relevant to nearly every SEO strategy. By the end of the series, you’ll be able to understand what local SEO is and why it’s important, establish a plan for location data management, establish a plan for reputation management, and assess your website for local SEO signals.

The SEO Competitive Analysis Certification is for anyone looking to level up their competitive analysis skill set. It covers topics from identifying your competitors to analyzing their success. This series is best for students with intermediate SEO knowledge as it will build upon foundational concepts. By the end of the series, you’ll be able to assess your current competitive analysis process, identify your true competitors, and follow our roadmap to conduct a thorough competitive analysis for your website.

Which Certification is right for me?
If you’re new to SEO and looking to learn the ropes, we’d recommend the SEO Essentials Certification Series. It includes foundational information to help you improve your skills in keyword research, on-page optimization, link building, and reporting, as well as a thorough explanation of the way search engines function and how SEO affects your site’s relationship with them.
The Keyword Research Certification Series is particularly beneficial for individuals working in a content-focused role. The series content covers the fundamentals of keyword research, getting to know your customer, creating a keyword strategy, and how to track your success. Please note that this Certification heavily overlaps course 2 of the SEO Essentials Certification. For this reason, folks who have already completed the SEO Essentials Certification may choose to enroll in our other Certifications instead.
The Technical SEO Certification Series is ideal for intermediate SEOs and digital marketers with existing SEO knowledge who are looking to level up their technical skills. The series content covers technical topics that pair nicely with a solid understanding of keyword research, on-page SEO, link building, and content marketing. If you already have familiarity with the SEO fundamentals and are looking to grow your technical expertise, this series is great for you.
The SEO Competitive Analysis Certification Series is best for intermediate SEOs who already have basic, foundational SEO knowledge and are looking to learn how to perform competitive research. This course covers topics that pair well with a solid comprehension of keyword research, content development, technical SEO, link building, and social media. If you already have familiarity with SEO fundamentals and are looking to supplement it with a better understanding of competitive research, this series is for you!
The Local SEO Certification Series is geared towards anyone working in SEO who can benefit from a well-rounded comprehension of the Local SEO landscape. A basic knowledge of SEO will be helpful to ensure that you have a foundation to build upon. This series covers topics that pair well with a solid understanding of search engine result pages, keyword research, content development, link building, and social media.
How do I view my Moz Certificate?
Under My Profile in your Academy account, you'll have the option to view/download your certificate, as well as add it to LinkedIn.
How do I add my Moz Certification LinkedIn badge to my profile?
Once you complete a course, you will be able to navigate to a page called Add this certificate to your LinkedIn profile. On this page it will have a certification URL that you will use when creating the course on your LinkedIn profile. When creating a course to display, you simply fill in the details (name of certificate, date completed, etc). There will be a field called License number which refers to your certificate number obtained from Moz.
- Navigate to your LinkedIn profile
- Edit your profile
- Scroll to the section called Certificates
- Create new certificate
- Complete the form using the information below
- Select done
To fill out the license number, simply copy/paste the final portion of the certificate verification url and place it in the license field.
How do I update the name on my Moz Certificate?
The name on your certificate is populated using the first and last name entered in your Moz Community profile. If you need to update your name, you can do so by following the below steps.
- Head to moz.com and access the Community Profile link from the dropdown on the right
- Click the circle icon on the right hand side of the screen
- Click Edit from the drop-down menu
- Enter your first and last name in the Full Name box and click Save at the bottom of the screen
- Head back to academy.moz.com and click Sign In on the top right
- Click My Profile from the dropdown to see your new, updated name
