What's Covered?

In this guide you’ll learn how to export your rankings data to CSV and what data is included in each export.

Export Rankings Data to CSV

Exporting your rankings data to CSV can help you to dig deeper into the data and notice trends across your tracked search engines and ranking pages.

You can export your rankings data from the Rankings section of your Campaign via the link to the right of your Tracked Keywords Overview.

Export your rankings data to CSV using the button provided on the top right.

Any filters applied to your Rankings data will persist in the CSV export. This means if you’ve applied filters to segment your data, only the keywords which meet that criteria will be included in your export. You can read more about segmenting your rankings data here.

Additionally, you can select any timeframe from your Campaign history, with the default time frame being 12 weeks or the age of the Campaign (whichever is shorter). When you export your data to CSV with the date range applied, the tool will export every update within that data set. This results in seeing multiple rows of data for each keyword - one row per data collection within the time frame selected. If you’re looking to export one row of data per keyword, please see below for further instruction.

CSV Data Points

Rankings and Engines

Within the CSV export for your Rankings and Engines tabs, you will see the following data points:

  1. Keyword - The keyword being tracked in your Campaign.
  2. Location - The location for which you are tracking this keyword. If you are tracking a keyword for multiple locations, each location will be listed as its own row in the CSV export.
  3. Labels - The labels applied to this keyword in your Campaign. If your keyword has multiple labels applied to it, they will be listed in this cell separated by commas. If the keyword is unlabeled, the cell will be blank.
  4. SERP Date - The date of the SERP collection used to populate rankings data in your Campaign.
  5. Rank - The highest rank for this site for the tracked keyword at the time of this data collection. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank. Please note: Keywords with an associated Featured Snippet will not be specially noted in the CSV. They will only have the associated rank and will not note Featured Snippet presence.
  6. Change (vs. previous date) - The change in rank for this keyword between this data collection and the previous week’s collection (for weekly reports) or month’s collection (for monthly reports). If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank. If there was no change to the rank, this will be noted as 0.
  7. URL - The URL for the highest ranking page on the tracked site for this keyword. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank.
  8. Search volume minimum - The minimum monthly search volume for this keyword on this search engine. If we do not have search volume data for this keyword, the cell will be blank. Keywords without volume data available are noted with No Data on the Tracked Keywords Overview page.
  9. Search volume maximum - The maximum monthly search volume for this keyword on this search engine. If we do not have search volume data for this keyword, the cell will be blank. Keywords without volume data available are noted with No Data on the Tracked Keywords Overview page.

Data points D-I will be repeated for each search engine you are tracking within your Campaign. One search engine would be noted in columns D-I, the next search engine would be columns J-O, etc. until all tracked search engines are accounted for. The search engine these columns are in reference to will be noted in the column header. For example, if you are tracking Google en-US the header for column D would read Google en-US SERP Date.

Competition

When exporting data from the Competition tab, you will only see data for one tracked search engine. You can select which search engine you’d like to export this data for using the drop-down on the top right.

Use the drop-down provided to select your search engine.

The search engine selected will also be noted in the title of the CSV export. For example, the following CSV is for Google en-US: moz_my_first_moz_campaign_rankings_overview_google_en-us_2020-02-03_to_2020-04-27

Within the CSV export for your Competition tab, you will see the following data points:

  1. Keyword - The keyword being tracked in your Campaign.
  2. Location - The location for which you are tracking this keyword. If you are tracking a keyword for multiple locations, each location will be listed as its own line in the CSV export.
  3. Labels - The labels applied to this keyword in your Campaign. If your keyword has multiple labels applied to it, they will be listed in this cell separated by commas. If the keyword is unlabeled, the cell will be blank.
  4. SERP Date - The date for the SERP collection used to populate rankings data in your Campaign.
  5. Search volume minimum - The minimum monthly search volume for this keyword on this search engine. If we do not have search volume data for this keyword, the cell will be blank. Keywords without volume data available are noted with No Data on the Tracked Keywords Overview page.
  6. Search volume maximum - The maximum monthly search volume for this keyword on this search engine. If we do not have search volume data for this keyword, the cell will be blank. Keywords without volume data available are noted with No Data on the Tracked Keywords Overview page.
  7. Your tracked site’s Rank - The highest rank for this site for the tracked keyword at the time of this data collection. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank.
  8. Your tracked site’s Change (vs. previous date) - The change in rank for this keyword between this data collection and the previous week’s collection (for weekly reports) or month’s collection (for monthly reports). If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank. If there was no change to the rank, this will be noted as 0.
  9. Your tracked site’s URL - The URL for the highest ranking page on the tracked site for this keyword. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank.
  10. Your competitor’s Rank - The highest rank for this site for the tracked keyword at the time of this data collection. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank.
  11. Your competitor’s Change (vs. previous date) - The change in rank for this keyword between this data collection and the previous week’s collection (for weekly reports) or month’s collection (for monthly reports). If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank. If there was no change to the rank, this will be noted as 0.
  12. Your competitor’s URL - The URL for the highest ranking page on the tracked site for this keyword. If the tracked site is not ranking within the top 50 search results for this keyword, the cell will be blank.

Data points J-L will be repeated for each competitor you are tracking within your Campaign. One competitor would be noted in columns J-L, the next competitor would be columns M-O, etc. until all tracked competitors are accounted for. Your site and your competitor sites will be noted in the column header based on the brand designations you chose during Campaign Creation. If you need to change these designations you can do so at any time from your Campaign Settings.

Please note: Keywords with an associated Featured Snippet will not be specially noted in the CSV. They will only have the associated rank and will not note Featured Snippet presence.

Exporting One Row of Data

If you are looking to export only one row of data per keyword from your Rankings section, you will need to be sure to select a timeframe which only includes one data collection.

Using the Date Range calendar, you can select a custom date range for your data based on when your Campaign updates. The following Campaign, used as an example, updates weekly on Thursday. In order to see one row of data for this Campaign, I will need to select a date range which only includes one Thursday:

Use the calendar to select a timeframe with only one data collection included.

When selecting the date range, the first and last day of the date range must fall on the same day of the week in order for only one row of data to be shown. In this example I have chosen the date range of Friday, April 17th to Friday, April 24th. Once Apply is clicked, the date range will adjust to end on the most recent data collection. In this case, that is April 23rd.

You will know that you are on the right track when the Search Visibility Graph only shows one data point and there is zero movement noted in the overview box.

If you see only one data point on the graph, only one row of data will be exported.

Although zero movement is noted in app when this date range is selected, you should still see the Change column in the exported CSV populated with data based on a week over week comparison.
