Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes, you can see how your site is ranking between Campaign updates in the SERP Analysis section of Analyze a Keyword. Please see below for more information regarding current rankings vs live results.
  • If you see "Data not available", this means that we haven't yet collected data for this keyword. One way to verify if there is a small amount of search volume is to see if Google Suggest autofills it in when you type in the search box. If it does, that's usually a sign there's at least some volume (even if it's only a few searches a month.)
  • You can update the competitors you’re tracking at any time from your Campaign Settings. You can learn more about updating this information in our Campaign Settings guide.

This guide offers an overview of the Analyze a Keyword section of your Moz Pro Campaign. It outlines how to analyze your target keywords, the different data views available, and information about how to see live SERP results.

Overview of Analyze a Keyword

Under the Rankings section, the first option you'll see is Analyze a Keyword. Click in the search box or start typing your target keyword and all the relevant keywords you're tracking will show up below for you to select.

If you want to explore keywords you're not currently tracking in your Moz Pro Campaign, you can add them to your Campaign.

After choosing a keyword and clicking Analyze, you'll see your Current Highest Ranking Position, the Difficulty Score for the keyword as well as the Monthly Search Volume.

The Current Highest Ranking Position noted here is based on the latest data collection for your Campaign. This data is gathered weekly and you can confirm when your Campaign is set to update next on the Dashboard for your Campaign.

Your Performance - Highest Ranking Position

Under Your Performance the default view for the available graph is Highest Ranking Position. This view will show you the Highest Ranking Position for each data collection within the selected timeframe. The Highest Ranking Position data is based on your weekly Campaign updates. You can confirm when your Campaign is set to update next on the Dashboard for your Campaign.

The Analyze a keyword graph for your performance with the drop-down expanded to see the 4 options. You can also update the date range using the calendar on the top right.

If you are seeing dates without a data point on the graph, this means that your site was not ranking in the top 50 results for this keyword at the time of those data collections. No data point will be present on the graph unless your site ranked in the top 50 results for that keyword at the time of your data collection.

No data points marked on the graph indicates you were not ranking at the time of that data collection.

Additionally, if your site has never ranked for the tracked keyword you will see a note of Nothing to see here.

A "Nothing to see here" note indicates that your site has not ranked for the chosen keyword in the time you've been tracking it in your Campaign.

Your Performance - Keyword Performance

From the drop-down in the Your Performance graph, you can select Keyword Performance to see the top 5 rankings URLs on your site for the selected keyword.

Use the drop-down on the left to select the keyword performance view.

If your site has more than 1 URL ranking for the selected keyword, multiple data points will show up on the graph. By hovering over them, you can see what other URLs are ranking for that keyword and in what position.

Hover over the data points in the graph to see additional ranking URLs. Up to five will be shown in this graph.

Up to 5 ranking URLs will be noted for you and your tracked competitors.

Your Performance - Search Visibility

If you’d like to see the Search Visibility for your site for this specific keyword, you can select Search Visibility from the drop-down.

Use the drop-down on the left to select the search visibility view.

By hovering over the data points in the graph, you can see the actual Search Visibility percentage for this specific keyword at the time of that data collection. If you’d like to see the Search Visibility for all your tracked keywords or a group of keywords, you can see that information in the main Rankings Overview.

Your Performance - SERP Features

The last option in the drop-down in the Your Performance graph is SERP Features which will show you what SERP features were present in the SERP for each data collection in the selected timeframe.

From the drop-down on the left, select the SERP features view.

Within the SERP Features graph view, grey data points indicate that the feature was present in the SERP but your tracked site was not included. Blue data points indicate that the feature was present and your tracked site was included in the feature. Hover over the icons on the left to see which SERP feature is noted.

Use the graph to see what SERP features are present for this keyword and which ones your site is featured in.

SERP Analysis

Below the graph you’ll be presented with a SERP Analysis report with PA and DA metrics from our Link Index. Here you can quickly see the Domain and Page Authority scores for each link, as well as how many root domains link to that page and that root domain. We’ll even show you how well-optimized this page is for the keyword you’re viewing.

The grey filled-in circle indicated your site is ranking in the results right now, in this position. If your site is ranking for more than one URL, each one will be marked with a grey filled-in circle. Unlike the Keyword Performance graph above, there is no limit to the number of ranking URLs which can be marked in the SERP Analysis view.

An empty circle indicates where one of your tracked competitors is ranking.

Click the metrics to head to Link Explorer and further evaluate the backlink profile of this page.

Click the Page Optimization Score to head to the On-Page Grader tool and see what factors may be impacting this score.

SERP Analysis in Analyze a Keyword allows you to see the SERP for the keyword you're researching - click the metrics to head to different research tools.

SERP Analysis: Current Rankings vs Live Results

The SERP Analysis report at the bottom of this page is live, so it may differ from the weekly ranking data you see in the graph and in the Rankings Overview for your Campaign. The Current Highest Ranking Position at the top of the page comes from your Campaign's weekly Rankings update and is the highest ranking position we observed at the time of that data collection, while the rank displayed in the SERP at the bottom of this page shows where your site is ranking right this very moment.
