In this guide you’ll learn about how to mark issues as fixed or ignored along with what each of those designations mean.
Quick Links
Ignore or Mark as Fixed
The first step to fixing site crawl issues is finding and prioritizing issues. Moz Pro's Site Crawl does all that for you, so you can focus on planning and executing a fix.
The tool is designed to flag all found issues so you can decide whether there’s an opportunity to improve your content. Sometimes you just know that you've fixed an issue, or you've checked that you're happy with that page and it's not something you're going to fix.
You can mark these issues as Fixed or Ignore them from your future crawls.
What does it mean to mark an issue as Fixed?
Marking an issue as Fixed tells the tool that you have implemented a resolution for the issue and it should not be found in the next crawl. If rogerbot does encounter the same issue again, the issue will be marked with a Not Fixed tag to indicate that we were still able to find the issue on your site.
An example would be if you had a page marked as a 4xx Critical Crawler Issue in your recent site crawl. You fixed the link on the referring page and marked the issue as Fixed. During the next crawl of your site, rogerbot finds that broken link on a different referring page so the tool marks the issue with a Not Fixed tag. This lets you know that the issue has persisted with the new crawl.
What does it mean to mark an issue as Ignore?
Marking an issue as Ignore tells the tool you do not want to be alerted to this issue moving forward. You are aware that it’s there but maybe it’s not within the current scope of your SEO strategy to fix the issue or you’ve determined it’s an intended result (i.e. pages marked as noindex intentionally or pages set up to direct to a custom 404 page).
When an issue is marked as Ignore, it will not be flagged in the next crawl even if it persists. You can unignore issues at any time via your Campaign Settings if you decide at a later date you want to tackle those issues.
Ignore in Bulk by Issue Type
Want to dismiss an entire category of issues from your Site Crawl? Head to the Issue Category > Issue Type and click Ignore Issue Type.
Selecting Ignore Issue Type prevents that type of issue from being reported in your Site Crawl. This means that if any pages are found in your Site Crawl with that particular Issue Type, they will not be flagged in your crawl report.
For example, if you mark the Issue Type of URL Too Long as ignored, we will not alert you if any pages on your site have URLs that are too long. We will still mark other issues associated with those pages, if found, just not whether they are marked as having a URL that is too long.
You can restore this issue type from your Campaign Settings or by clicking Restore Issue Type from within your Site Crawl if you want to see it again.
Marking Issues From Page Details
Click on the magnifying glass in the Analyze column from the Issue Category to view all the page details from the last time this page was crawled.
From here you can export the details as a PDF, Mark as Fixed, or Ignore the issue to stop us searching for this next time.
Restoring Issues
If you ever decide you no longer want an issue to be ignored in your site crawl, you can either follow the link from your Site Crawl to your ignored issues or head to your Campaign Settings from the left hand navigation.
From within the Site Crawl tab of your Campaign Settings you can restore ignored issues. Use the filter options to filter by URL or Issue Type and then click Restore Issue.
