Getting Started with Moz Pro
If you’ve just signed up for Moz Pro, or you’ve had it a little while but never quite found your groove, the Getting Started Checklist is here to help. Let the checklist take the wheel for a while as it guides you step-by-step through the key activities to get the most out of your Moz Pro subscription. SEO is a rollercoaster, but with Moz Pro and your handy checklist, you’ll be fast-tracked to the front of the queue so you can enjoy the ride!
Here is your to-do list for getting the most out of Moz Pro. If you haven't already, you'll want to sign up for the free trial or reactivate your subscription, so you can follow along.
Familiarize Yourself With the Tools
Whether you’re just getting started with the Moz Pro tools or you just need a quick refresher, Moz Academy can help you get off on the right foot. Register for the How to Use Moz Pro course through Moz Academy.
Setup Your Account
First off, let’s make sure your account is all set up and that your email settings are correct.
- Assign a Seat to share your Moz Pro access with a team member.
- Adjust email settings to select the types of Moz emails you’d like to receive.
- Download MozBar, Moz’s SEO Toolbar for Chrome, to get instant metrics while viewing any web page or SERP.
- Complete your Moz profile in the Moz Community.
Track a Site in Moz Pro
Now that your account is ready to go, it’s time to get to work! Setup a new Moz Pro Campaign to start tracking your SEO efforts over time, all in one place.
- Track a site by creating your first Campaign in Moz Pro and connect your Google Analytics account to integrate your website traffic data.
- Learn more about the Manage Your Campaigns screen.
Start Your Keyword Research
While data is being gathered in your newly created Moz Pro Campaign, let’s kick off some keyword research with Keyword Explorer.
- Use Keyword Explorer to discover and prioritize keywords.
- Create a Keyword List.
- Add any new keywords to your Moz Pro Campaigns to begin tracking them.
Start Your Link Research
Link building is an important part of any SEO strategy. You can get started with analyzing your backlink profile in our Link Explorer tool.
- Use Link Explorer to analyze links to your website.
- Visit Top Pages to see your competitors' top linked-to pages and gain insight into their link strategies.
- Use Link Intersect to identify potential link opportunities.
- Create a Link Tracking List to help set goals, track, and analyze your link building progress.
Track Target Keyword Rankings
Once your Campaign is created and data is gathered for your tracked keywords, you can start to monitor how your SEO strategies impact your rankings. Head to the Rankings section of your Campaign to start exploring.
- Go to Rankings in your Campaign to see where you’re ranking well and where you have opportunities to improve.
- Use SERP Features to see which features appear for your keywords and get insights to help you grow your search engine visibility.

- Use Landing Pages to find out which keywords are driving organic traffic to your top landing pages so you can better optimize these pages for more traffic.
Improve Page Optimization
Page Optimization in Moz Pro can help you monitor how well optimized pages on your site are in an effort to identify potential improvements that can be made. You can also use to this tool to find content suggestions.
- Go to Page Optimization in your Campaign; then enter a keyword and target page URL. (Note: Try one of the url and keyword combinations you identified when using Landing Pages.)
- Review the Discover tab to see actions you can take to optimize the page for higher rankings.
Audit Your Site With Site Crawl
Let’s review your Site Crawl data and see what areas of your site may need some attention and identify any possible wide-spread issues impacting your site.
- Go to Site Crawl in your Campaign to identify technical issues impacting your site's SEO and learn how to fix them.
- Analyze technical and on-page issues for specific pages on your website.
Set Up Regular Reporting and Monitoring
Now that you’re up and running with the tools, you may want to set up regular reports to be sent to your inbox and key stakeholders in your company. We will also provide insights for your Campaign which you can review.
- Check out Campaign Insights for a running to-do list of high-priority issues to fix and opportunities to seize.
- Create a Custom Report for the Campaign you created during setup.
- Schedule your Custom Report to be delivered to your inbox on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
